Abstract

Adolescence is characterized by a period of significant dental caries activity. research has proven that the level of caries in adolescence tends to have a high prevalence. One of the factors causing caries is the lack of awareness of adolescents in maintaining oral and dental hygiene, to increase awareness of adolescents can be done by promoting dental health through dental health education. Conventional dental health education that has been applied only focuses on increasing patient awareness of the severity of a disease problem through providing information/advice. The selection of the right approach in the process of delivering dental health education materials to adolescents is the intervention of the motivational interviewing counselling model. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the motivational interviewing (MI) counselling model to improve teeth brushing practice in adolescents. Research methods research and development (R&D) there are five stages of research, namely: information collection, model design, expert validation, and a trial model sample of 80 teenage students. Sampling using a purposive sampling technique. Data were tested using intraclass correlation coefficient, paired sample test and independent sample test. The results showed that the motivational interviewing counselling model intervention had the potential to improve teeth brushing skills in adolescents (p=0.001) and reduce plaque index scores (p=<0.001). Abstract

Indonesia faces serious challenges in dental and oral health and nutrition, with dental caries, stunting, and obesity remaining major public health problems among children. Schools play a crucial role in shaping children’s health behaviors through structured health education and interventions. The School Health Program model “SEGIGIKU” was developed to enhance the involvement of teachers, peers, and parents in improving oral health behavior and nutrition awareness as preventive measures against dental caries, stunting, and obesity in preschool children. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the “SEGIGIKU” School Health Program model as an effort to improve oral health behavior and nutrition awareness among preschool children. This research employed a research and development (R&D) design, consisting of stages of information gathering, program design, expert validation, product testing, and final product development. The results showed a consistent weekly increase in students’ weight and height. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon test demonstrated a highly significant improvement in dental hygiene, as indicated by the PHPM score (p = 0.000), and a significant reduction in dental caries, as reflected by the decay score (p = 0.002). In conclusion, the “SEGIGIKU” School Health Program model effectively improves oral health behavior and nutrition awareness, which are closely interconnected, and contributes to the prevention of dental caries, stunting, and obesity in preschool children.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The quality of radiotherapy verification images on a 6 MeV Linear Accelerator (Linac) often decreases due to noise generated by high energy, potentially reducing the accuracy of irradiation positioning and endangering surrounding healthy tissues. The combination of Bilateral Filter and Non-Local Means techniques is a denoising method designed to reduce noise while preserving important image details. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of combining these two techniques in improving the quality of pelvis region verification images, focusing on the quantitative parameter Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) and the qualitative parameter of image information. The research design used was Research and Development (RD) with 20 samples of anteroposterior (AP) and lateral projection verification images obtained from the Electronic Portal Imaging Device (EPID) of a 6 MeV Linac at the Radiotherapy Unit of RSUD Dr. Moewardi. The denoising process was performed using Python–OpenCV. PSNR values were measured before and after denoising, while image information was assessed by four expert evaluators using a 1–5 scale checklist. Statistical analysis employed paired t-test or Wilcoxon test for PSNR, and Wilcoxon test as well as Cohen’s Kappa for image information. The results showed a significant increase in PSNR values in both projections (p 0.05) with an N-gain score of 59%–64%. Image information assessment also showed a significant improvement (p 0.05), with Cohen’s Kappa indicating moderate to strong agreement among evaluators. Therefore, the combination of Bilateral Filter and Non-Local Means has been proven effective in improving the quality of pelvis region radiotherapy verification images, potentially enhancing irradiation accuracy and patient safety. Keywords: PSNR, Bilateral Filter, Non Local Means, Radiotherapy.
