Abstract

The decline in productivity of Acacia seedlings (Acacia crassicarpa) in Industrial Plantation Forests is caused in part by attacks of mealybug pests (Paracoccus marginatus). Using chemical insecticides in pest control can negatively impact health and the environment, so more environmentally friendly alternatives are needed, such as plant-based insecticides. This study aims to determine the concentration of noni leaf extract on the mortality of mealybug pests. A completely randomized design (CRD) was employed, consisting of four treatments with different concentrations of Morinda citrifolia leaf extract (30 g/l, 40 g/l, 50 g/l, and 60 g/l), each replicated three times. The observed parameters included the time of initial death, Lethal Time 50 (LT₅₀), and total mortality percentage. The results indicated that the use of Morinda citrifolia leaf extract of 60 g/l was the most effective, with an average time of 8,67 hours, LT₅₀ of 24,67 hours, and total mortality rate of 100% for Paracoccus marginatus.

Abstract

Plutella xylostella are one of the pests that attack BPDASHL (Watershed against hanging Plutella xylostella pests on Phitecellobium jiringa plants. This study botanical pesticide, used a completely randomized design (CRD), with the treatments namely: P1 = a pest control, Citrus mixture of C. aurantifolia leaf extract and P. betle leaf 50 g/L, P2 = a mixture of C. aurantifolia, Piper aurantifolia leaf extract and P. betle leaf 100 g/L, P3 = a mixture of C. aurantifolia betle, nursey leaf extract and P. betle leaf 150 g/L, and P4 = a mixture of C. aurantifolia leaf extract and P. betle leaf 200 g/L. The observation variables in this study were temperature and humidity, the initial time of death, lethal time50 (LT50), daily mortality, and total mortality. The results showed that the application of botanical pesticide extract of C. aurantifolia leaf and P. betle leaf was efficient on the mortality of hanging P. xylostella pests with a total mortality result of 100%. The best the best concentration is a mixture of C. aurantifolia leaf extract and P. betle leaf 200 g/L (P4).

Abstract

Arboretum as a conservation area that aims to maintain the tree species and ecological benefits of having a variety of plants or trees that have high economic value. One of the plants or trees that have high economic value is balam (Palaqium burchii HJL). The Natural regeneration in a forest area has a very important role to sustain the kind of quantity and quality of balam in the future. Balam (Palaqium burchii HJL) entered in the family Saportaceae. Balam (Palaquium burchii HJL) is a native plant of Indonesia that spread throughout in mainland Indonesia and found most widely in the areas of Borneo. Wood types of balam (Palaqium burchii HJL) has class IV in durability and class II in powers. This study was conducted in Arboretum of University of Riau. Bina Widya Street KM12,5 Panam, District Tampan, Pekanbaru, Riau Province. Arboretum has an area of ± 10 Ha. The research was conducted in March until June 2015. Based on the results of the study showed that the entire swath of the observations which the regeneration of balam only 1.07%, it can be stated that the regeneration of balam in Arboretum area of University of Riau is still relatively low.

Abstract

The community forests management of Styrax spp.becomes a culture and the source of life and social prestige of a family which is measured by the size of the Styraxspp. garden owned and has even become part of the life of the Sytraxspp. farmerin HumbangHasundutan, especially Simarigung Village. As time goes by, many Styraxspp. farmers are turning into horticultural farmers to sufficethe needs of farmers. The purpose of this research is to know the pattern of cultivation of Sytraxspp. plants, to know the contribution of Sytrax spp. plants to household income, and the factors causing the low income of Styrax spp. farmers in Simarigung Village. Sampling method were taken by simple random sampling. The study population was all the head of the family in the Village Simarigung as many as 225 families. The research sample is 20% 25 families of 125 families who manage Styrax spp. The results showed that the major contribution to the community forests of Styraxspp. about household income in the Village Simarigung around Rp. 10.810.000,00- Rp. 22.220.000,00/year and overall was 47.64% or Rp. 457.390.000.00/year. In research show that the management of Sytrax spp. is still traditional and monoculture. The low income of Styraxspp.due to old age and younger Styraxspp. that cannot be notched and lack of maintenance can reduce the quantity and quality of Styraxspp. resin production.
