Abstract

The aims of this research are (1) To identify rest verbs in English and Buginese based on Dixon's classification of sleep subtypes. (2) To examine the distinctions and equivalences between the English and Buginese Sit subtypes of Rest verbs in terms of semantics and grammatical structure. While the data for Buginese were gained from field research through the process of observation and in-depth interview, the data for English were taken from the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA). Both sets of data were evaluated using qualitative and descriptive methods. This study's findings demonstrate that (1) there are six rest verbs of Sleep subtype in English, they are sleep, nap, doze, siesta, drowse, catnap, and beauty sleep. While in Buginese, there are many verbs that refers to rest verb, they are Tinro’, lewu’, makkapeddeng’,cakkaruddu’,  mappalempu’, moppang’, lengeng’, nDitti’, manippi’, mappasau’ tengngeng’, maggalelu’ mangkangulu’, makkadukku’, maggalengkeng’, mappalangka’, mabboco’, ma’ranjang, maggalampang’, rebba’-rebba’, lesso’, mammauneng’, mangoro’and mabbenni’. (2) Clause structure and stance of resting are two areas where the main distinctions between rest verbs in English and Buginese based on the Sleep subtype may be recognized. According to clause structure, an NP in English is followed by a VP, however in Buginese it is acceptable for a VP to be followed by an NP that is denoted by the prefix Ma'- in VP. From the perspective of the resting aspect, cultural background has a significant impact on the different rest verb forms. Keywords: Preposition, locus, culture, rest verbs, semantic verb kinds.

Abstract

This research explores bilingualism among fourth-grade students at SDN 42 Buntu Sarek, focusing on Luwu-Indonesian conversations. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive method with observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques, the study reveals the complex dynamics of bilingualism within and outside the classroom. Inside the classroom, students predominantly use Indonesian for formal interactions, while outside the classroom, Luwu language dominates informal social interactions. Environmental factors, including family, peers, and media, play a significant role in shaping students' speech patterns. The use of a mixed language has a positive impact on language skills development, enriching vocabulary. However, challenges arise in deepening proficiency in one language, leading to potential identity doubts, particularly in formal Indonesian contexts. Addressing these challenges requires educational strategies supporting understanding and language skill development in both languages.

Abstract

This research aims to reveal the use of address terms in English and Selayarese based on situation and context and to understand the aspects that influenced the use of address terms in English and Selayarese. This study was analyzed through descriptive qualitative approach. The English data were taken from some conversational events in the movies while the Selayarese data were taken from the participant observation, depth interview, and field notes. The data requirement is focused on the address terms performed by English (American) and Selayarese community. The results of this research indicate some kinds of address terms occupied in both languages namely: 1) pronouns, 2) kinship terms, 3) title and professional terms, 4) religious terms, 5) nobility terms, 6) terms of endearments. The difference from both languages appeared in which the nobility terms and teknonyms was not accommodated in English data. Another difference is Selayarese use certain address terms to call cousin and nephew or niece. Beside that there are also some similarities from both languages in which they use first name to call their mother, father, grandfather and grandmother and both languages applied endearments to address someone. It was also found from the data that there are some aspects that influenced the use of address terms in English and Selayarese, namely: 1) age difference, 2) social situation, consisting formal and non formal situation, 3) social status, consisting achieved and ascribed status, 4) social distance or degree of intimacy.

Abstract

Sit Subtype refers to a stance of resting, some verbs specification of Locus is obligator and other it is optional. The aims of this research were (1) To identify Rest verbs in English and Buginese based on the Sit subtypes divided by Dixon. (2) To investigate the differences and similarities in terms of semantical and grammatical construction of Sit subtypes of Rest verbs in English and Buginese. English data were collected from Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA), while data of Buginese were obtained from field research through process of observation and in depth interview. Both of the data were analyzed with description and qualitative analysis. The result of this research shows that (1) There are nine rest verbs of Sit subtype in English, they are sit (down), stand (up), lie (down), kneel, crouch, squat, lean, hang (down), and float, while in Buginese, there nineteen of Sit subtype: ttudang, ccado’, sEppo’, massampiang, massulekka, makkaddao uttu, mattulak sadang, mappasilojo’, mappalempu, tettong, llEu, maggalelu, mattojang, makkaluttu, ccuku’, rroko’, maccekkeng, ssanrE’, maggattung, and mmawang. (2) The main differences of rest verbs in English and Buginese based on Sit subtype can be seen from two aspects, clause structure and a stance of resting. From clause structure, In English a NP is followed by VP, while in Buginese is permissible that VP is followed by NP that marked by suffix –I in VP. Abstract

To address the concerning trend of increasing fossil fuel use due to population growth, it is necessaryto prioritize alternative energy sources like renewable energy. This study aims to analyze the energy parameters produced through biogas formation in a floating drum biodigester, highlighting the potential for sustainable energy solutions. This research method uses experimental research using three treatments of the ratio of straw, water, and cow dung. The parameters observed and analyzed include the amount of biogas produced, biogas pressure, flame length, combustion rate, and calorific value. The experiment results clearly demonstrate that the first treatment was significantly more effective in producing biogas, with a volume of 0.101 m3 or 101 litre, a pressure of 0.0081 atm, a combustion rate of 0.00266 m3/min, a flame length of 38 minutes, and a combustion calorific value of 210,045 joules. In contrast, the second treatment produced a total biogas volume of only 0.0775 m3 or 77.5 litre, at a pressure of 0.0131 atm, a combustion rate of 0.00209 m3/min, a flame duration of 37 minutes, and a combustion calorific value of 184,965 joules. These results provide strong evidence for the superiority of the first treatment in terms of biogas production. The third treatment produced a biogas volume of 0.0771 m3 or 77.1 litre at a pressure of 0.013 atm, with a combustion rate of 0.00214 m3/min, a flame duration of 36 minutes, and a combustion heating value of 164,587.5 joules.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to build a model that can detect damage to avocados, using gas sensors that are accurate, precise, specific, and sensitive. The specific goal is to get the best model from the several machine learning methods used. The best model will be obtained through a classification algorithm. The input data to be processed is gas data in units of ppm measured from damaged and normal avocados that have been stored for 7 days. Gas data recording uses the TGS 2600, MQ-3, MQ-4, MQ-2, and MQ-8 sensors. Each data quality will be improved by cleaning and normalizing data. The quality-enhanced data is then used as input to the machine learning system. The machine learning model used is the Ada-boost, Decision Tree, Multi Layer Perceptron (MLP) classification model and the Stratified K-Fold Cross Validation method. The trained model is then tested with a comparison of the number of test data and training data which is 70:30. The test results show the accuracy of the avocado damage detection system using ppm data obtained using the gas sensor and the Stratified K-Fold Cross Validation method with system accuracy on the Ada-boost value having an accuracy of 100%, 100%, 100% and 50%, with a method accuracy value classifier with 4x repetitions.
