Abstract

Analysis of the hydroquinone content in facial whitening cream can be carried out using qualitative and quantitative methods. Hydroquinone, although effective in reducing melanin production, is potentially dangerous if used excessively, namely it can cause skin irritation and serious health problems. Qualitative analysis can be carried out using thin layer chromatography (TLC) and color reaction methods, while quantitative analysis can use UV-Vis Spectrophotometry and High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The results of the analysis show that many facial whitening cream products contain hydroquinone that exceeds the permitted limit (<2%), although some products are still within the safe limit. These findings emphasize the importance of strict supervision of cosmetics circulating on the market, in order to protect consumers from health risks. The choice of analytical method depends on specific needs, namely TLC is suitable for fast identification and HPLC for more accurate results on complex compounds.

Abstract

Telepharmacy is an innovation in remote pharmaceutical services that has become increasingly relevant along with the rapid development of information and communication technology in the healthcare sector. This service enables pharmacists to continue providing optimal pharmaceutical care without direct face-to-face interaction. This study aimed to describe the implementation of drug information services provided by pharmacists through telepharmacy at Pharmacy X in Mataram City and to evaluate their compliance with pharmaceutical service standards as regulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number 73 of 2016. This study employed a descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach, involving 40 patient interactions conducted via WhatsApp over a one-month period. The collected data included the types of medicines purchased by patients and the forms of drug information provided by pharmacists. The medicines were classified according to therapeutic categories, while drug information was analyzed using indicators based on pharmaceutical service regulations. The results showed that the most frequently purchased medicines were respiratory system drugs (26.67%), analgesic/antipyretic drugs (22.22%), and medicines for dyspepsia (17.78%). The most commonly provided drug information included dosage instructions (71.74%), explanations of special dosage forms (87.5%), and duration of use (54.35%). However, information regarding side effects (13.04%) and drug interactions (10.87%) was still limited. All patients receiving antibiotics were educated to complete their medication as prescribed (100%). Overall, drug information services delivered through telepharmacy at Pharmacy X were in accordance with pharmaceutical service standards, although improvements in clinical education are still needed to strengthen the quality and safety of digital pharmacy services.

Abstract

Abstract

Chlorella vulgaris is a marine microalga abundant in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) that contains flavonoids and other bioactive compounds exhibiting potent antioxidant activity. Antioxidant compounds can be utilized in skin maintenance. This research investigated the antioxidant activity of C. vulgaris ethanolic extract while developing a nanoemulsion formulation intended for topical application. Biomass was processed into simplisia and extracted by maceration using ethanol 96%. Phytochemical identification and total flavonoid content were determined using TLC and aluminum chloride methods. Antioxidant activity was determined using the DPPH radical scavenging assay and expressed as IC₅₀ values. The extract was subsequently formulated into nanoemulsions using virgin coconut oil, Tween 80, and Span 80, followed by physical characterization. The extraction process produced a C. vulgaris extract yield of 7.14% (w/w). TLC analysis confirmed the presence of flavonoids, and the TFC of the extract was 89,31 ± 0,03 mg QE/g extract. Strong antioxidant activity was demonstrated by the ethanolic extract, with an IC₅₀ of 52.869 ppm. The nanoemulsion formulation containing 1% extract exhibited a green color, characteristic odor, clear appearance, with a pH value of 6,96, viscosity of 990 cPs, a transmittance value of 89,8%, particle size of 16,5 nm, and polydispersity index 0,294, indicating the formation of a nanosized dispersion with moderate particle size distribution. Overall, Nanoemulsion delivery enhances C. vulgaris antioxidant performance, supporting its potential application in skin maintenance and cosmeceutical products.
