Abstract

Abstract

Mental health remains a global health challenge with significant impact. Mothers of stunted toddlers often experience psychosocial pressures that can negatively affect their mental well-being. In the working area of the Lampisang Community Health Center, cases of both stunting and mental health disorders remain prevalent. This study aims to analyze the factors associated with the mental health of mothers with stunted toddlers in this region. A quantitative research approach with a cross-sectional design was employed. The study was conducted from July 26 to August 1, 2024. The target population consisted of 725 mothers with toddlers. A proportional random sampling technique was used to select a total of 439 respondents. Inclusion criteria included mothers who had toddlers, lived within the Lampisang Community Health Center’s service area, and were willing to participate in the study. The exclusion criterion was mothers who were not present at the time of data collection. Logistic regression analysis was used to test the research hypothesis. The results showed that the most dominant factors associated with abnormal maternal mental health were the lack of support from husbands (OR = 72.94; CI = 23.78–223.71; p = 0.0001) and the incidence of stunting in toddlers (OR = 59.64; CI = 9.86–360.61; p = 0.0001). These findings indicate that lack of husband’s support and the presence of stunting in toddlers are the most significant contributors to mental health problems among mothers.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Diarrhea is a significant public health problem in many countries, including Indonesia. Meunasah Balee Village in the Lhoknga Subdistrict has been identified as the area with the highest number of diarrhea cases reported at the local Community Health Center (Puskesmas) in 2017. This study aims to examine the relationship between the physical condition of dug wells and the incidence of diarrhea in Meunasah Balee Village. Method: This study employed a descriptive-analytic method with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of all households (81 households) that had dug wells. Data collection was conducted over 10 days from January to February 2019 through physical measurements, interviews, and observations. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test with the help of SPSS version 20. Result: The study found a significant relationship between several physical factors of dug wells and the incidence of diarrhea. The distance between septic tanks and dug wells was significantly associated with diarrhea incidence (p value = 0.004), as was the distance from pollution sources (p value = 0.002), and the physical condition of the wells (p value = 0.018). Laboratory examination results showed that all samples from households with diarrhea cases (100%) failed to meet microbiological quality standards based on the Most Probable Number (MPN) test. Recommendation: The study concludes that the physical condition of dug wells—such as the distance to septic tanks, distance to pollution sources, and the overall condition of the well—is directly associated with the incidence of diarrhea in Meunasah Balee Village. It is recommended that the Health Office conduct intensive education campaigns on the importance of clean water supply, septic tank management, and pollution control as preventive measures to reduce diarrhea cases in the area.

Abstract

Mental health is an aspect of health that is increasingly receiving global attention because of its significant impact on individual and community health problems. Mental health disorders have increased in coastal areas in the last 5 years. Mental health challenges are becoming increasingly complex in the most dominant jobs in coastal regions, such as in the profession of fishermen. In addition, there are still many people who experience mental disorders. This study aims to analyze fishermen's mental health determinants in the Coastal Area. This study uses a quantitative research type with a cross-sectional design. This study was conducted by interviewing using a questionnaire. The population in this study consisted of fishermen in the coastal area of Mesjid Raya District, especially MNS Keude, with as many as 456 fishermen. The sampling method used simple random sampling with a sample size of 82 respondents. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire. The results showed that there was a most dominant relationship between the number of children >2 (OR = 48.17; 95% CI = 1.68-1377.66; p = 0.024), moderate fatigue level (OR = 26.57; 95% CI = 1.59-444.89; p = 0.023) and age (OR = 0.66; 95% CI = 0.44-0.99; p = 0.049) most dominantly related to mental health disorders in fishermen in coastal areas. Fishermen who have more than two children are the most dominant factor in mental health problems.

Abstract

Reproductive health is an important aspect that every prospective bride and groom must understand to prepare for a healthy and quality family life. However, the low level of knowledge of prospective brides and grooms is a challenge in efforts to prevent reproductive health risks. This study aims to determine the effect of infographic media on prospective brides and grooms' knowledge of reproductive health. The research design used a quasi-experimental approach with a one-group pretest-posttest. A total of 88 respondents were selected purposively from four Religious Affairs Offices in Banda Aceh City. The instrument in the form of a questionnaire tested for validity and reliability was given before and after the intervention using infographic media. The analysis showed a significant increase in knowledge scores from an average of 9.02 in the pretest to 18.86 in the posttest (p = 0.000). However, multivariate analysis showed that the variables of age, gender, education, occupation, and income did not significantly affect changes in knowledge (p > 0.05). Infographic media has been proven to effectively convey information visually and increase the understanding of prospective brides and grooms regarding basic concepts of reproductive health more easily and attractively.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), especially hypertension, are the leading cause of premature death worldwide, with a high prevalence in low- and middle-income countries. In Indonesia, hypertension poses a major health challenge, particularly in coastal areas where diets are high in sodium. This study aims to explore the efforts made by individuals with hypertension in managing their blood pressure. A qualitative study with a case study approach was conducted in Kluet Selatan, South Aceh, in November 2024. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs) involving 12 participants, including hypertension patients, family members, health workers, and community leaders. Data were recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns and key themes related to hypertension management. The results revealed that patients had initiated dietary changes, increased physical activity, and practiced stress management. However, they encountered challenges such as financial limitations, ingrained eating habits, and restricted access to health facilities. Family involvement and the use of traditional remedies were found to support hypertension control. Despite these efforts, persistent social, cultural, and economic barriers hinder sustainable behavior change. Limited health education and lack of access to specialized care also affect long-term hypertension management in this setting.
