Abstract

Abstract: Student engagement plays a crucial role in supporting successful learning outcomes, particularly in vocational education settings. Initial classroom observations conducted in Class XI TKR of SMK Negeri 1 Kecamatan Luak indicated that learners tended to show limited participation during instructional activities. This classroom action research investigated the use of a game-oriented learning approach supported by Quizizz to foster greater student involvement in the Light Vehicle Engine System subject. The study followed the Kemmis and McTaggart action research framework and was carried out in two cycles, each consisting of two learning sessions. Twenty-six students participated in the research. Data were obtained through systematic classroom observations and interpreted using percentage-based descriptive analysis. Findings revealed a steady rise in learner engagement throughout the intervention. Participation levels progressed from 34.61% during the first session of Cycle I to 46.15% in the following session, increased again to 65.38% at the beginning of Cycle II, and reached 80.76% by the final meeting. These outcomes surpassed the predetermined criterion requiring at least 75% of learners to demonstrate moderate, high, or very high engagement. The results suggest that integrating Quizizz within a game-oriented instructional model can effectively encourage active participation in vocational learning environments. Keywords: Game Based Learning, Quizizz, Student Learning Activity, Classroom Action Research, Light Vehicle Engine System

Abstract

High-bioethanol blends require appropriate fuel-injection control, particularly in engines with modified compression ratios. This study evaluated fuel consumption and air–fuel ratio (AFR) of a modified-compression-ratio spark-ignition engine using 8- and 10-hole injectors with E90, E95, and E100 blends. Experiments were conducted at engine speeds from 2000 to 8000 rpm. Fuel consumption was measured using a flow meter, while AFR was recorded during dynamometer testing. Fuel consumption increased with engine speed for both injector types. E90 produced the lowest average fuel consumption, at 1.102 L/hour for the 8-hole injector and 1.209 L/hour for the 10-hole injector. Across all fuel blends, the 8-hole injector showed lower average fuel consumption, whereas the 10-hole injector showed a narrower AFR range. These findings indicate that injector-hole configuration and high-bioethanol blend composition should be considered when tuning fuel delivery in modified-compression-ratio engines.

Abstract

The Competency Test for Teacher Professional Education Program Participants (UKPPPG) is an essential stage for assessing the professionalism of vocational teachers, including those in the field of automotive engineering. Adequate preparation is required to ensure that teachers meet competency standards while also improving the quality of learning in vocational schools. This study aims to describe the preparation strategies facilitated by the Automotive Engineering Subject Teacher Forum (MGMP) in West Sumatra and to identify the challenges teachers face in preparing for the UKPPPG. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. The subjects consisted of 15 automotive teachers who were actively involved in MGMP activities and preparing for the UKPPPG. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. Thematic analysis was carried out through coding, theme identification, and verification using source and method triangulation. The findings indicate that MGMP preparation strategies include lesson plan development, microteaching, and exam discussions. These activities improved teachers’ pedagogical skills; however, limitations such as inadequate workshop facilities, conventional teaching materials, and the lack of computer-based simulations hindered optimal preparation. This study concludes that MGMP plays a significant role in preparing teachers for the UKPPPG, although its effectiveness remains limited to pedagogical aspects. A more comprehensive strategy involving curriculum renewal, access to updated materials, psychological support, and digital technology integration is needed.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the distribution of factual, conceptual, procedural, and metacognitive knowledge levels in Final Semester Examination (UAS) questions for automotive productive subjects created by teachers at State Vocational High Schools (SMK) in Padang City. This research employs a quantitative descriptive design with a single variable of knowledge level based on Anderson's taxonomy. The research objects include 160 multiple-choice questions from the even semester UAS 2024/2025 from four State Vocational High Schools in Padang (SMKN 1 West Sumatra, SMKN 1 Padang, SMKN 5 Padang, and SMKN 8 Padang). The research instrument uses knowledge level analysis sheets based on operational verbs and question contexts. Data analysis techniques employ quantitative descriptive analysis by calculating the percentage of each knowledge level. The results show the overall distribution of knowledge levels: conceptual 49.375% (79 questions), procedural 18.75% (30 questions), factual 16.25% (26 questions), and metacognitive 15.625% (25 questions). There are significant variations among schools, particularly at SMKN 1 Padang with 70% conceptual dominance and SMKN 5 Padang with 30% metacognitive. Compared to BSNP (2018) recommendations, significant deviations occur where conceptual far exceeds standards (49.375% vs 10-20%) and procedural is below standards (18.75% vs 50-60%). However, these differences can be explained by the characteristics of vocational education that integrates written and practical assessments. This study recommends the need for teacher training in developing Bloom taxonomy-based questions, developing standardized question banks, and adjusting knowledge level distribution standards specific to vocational education. Keywords: knowledge levels, Anderson's taxonomy, final examination questions, automotive vocational education, HOTS

Abstract

Abstract: The digital era has transformed the learning paradigm in vocational high schools, particularly in the field of automotive engineering. Social media has now become an integral part of students' lives, which can affect their motivation and academic achievement. This study aims to analyze the impact of social media use on learning motivation and academic achievement of automotive engineering students in vocational high schools. Quantitative research with a causal-comparative design was conducted on 71 grade XI Light Vehicle Engineering students at SMKN 1 Padang. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and academic grade documentation. Data analysis used MANOVA with Hotelling's Trace test statistics to test simultaneous effects. The results showed that social media had a positive and significant effect on students' learning motivation (F = 31.004, p 0.05), but did not significantly affect their academic achievement (F = 0.610, p 0.05). Simultaneously, social media use did not show a significant effect on the combination of learning motivation and academic achievement (Hotelling's Trace = 8.880; F = 1.421; p = 0.223). While social media can increase automotive engineering students' motivation to learn, its impact on academic achievement is less than optimal. A more targeted strategy for utilizing social media and integrating it with the curriculum is needed to maximize its potential in supporting automotive engineering learning. Keywords: Social Media, Learning Motivation, Academic Achievement, Automotive Engineering, Vocational Education.
