Abstract

This study describes the KMP. Mnaibori, a 14-meter semi-submarine catamaran designed for the waters of Raja Ampat as a model of sustainable marine ecotourism. The objectives are to present the vessel’s design specifications, integrate a hybrid solar–energy system, and assess the financial feasibility and strategic aspects of its development. The methodology includes technical design analysis based on stability, comfort, and underwater observation experience; solar power system performance estimation using the peak sun hours and energy loss factor approach; and financial analysis using Payback Period (PP), Net Present Value (NPV), Profitability Index (PI), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Break-Even Point (BEP), and Return on Investment (ROI) with a 12% discount rate over a 5-year horizon. The results show that with a solar panel area of 49 m² (38 modules @200 W), the system can generate 21.66 kWh per day. Economically, the project is feasible with a positive NPV of IDR 4.44 billion, a BEP at 12.11 passengers/day (33.6% occupancy), ROI of 49.85% per year, and IRR between 42–45%. SWOT analysis highlights the vessel’s strengths in innovative design and energy efficiency, opportunities in ecotourism growth and green financing support, and challenges related to fuel dependency and weather variability. Development strategies are directed toward service differentiation, solar energy optimization, and enhancing local maintenance capacity.

Abstract

Zebra fish (Danio rerio) is a widely cultivated ornamental freshwater species valued for its distinctive body stripes. However, color fading during the rearing period remains a common problem for fish farmers. Ketapang leaves (Terminalia catappa) contain various bioactive compounds, including tannins, flavonoids, and saponins, which are known to improve fish health and potentially enhance pigmentation. This study aimed to determine the effect of ketapang leaf soaking water on the improvement of color quality in Zebra fish (Danio rerio). The research was conducted for 28 days using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments and three replications: A (control/100% freshwater), B (25% ketapang leaf extract), C (50%), D (75%), and E (100%). The observed parameters included survival rate, absolute length growth, absolute weight growth, color quality, and water quality (pH, DO, and temperature). Color quality was assessed using visual color grading and evaluation by 50 panelists. The results indicated that the use of ketapang leaf soaking water significantly influenced the enhancement of color quality in Zebra fish. Treatment D (75% ketapang leaf soaking water) produced the highest color brightness score, both visually and based on panelist assessments. The highest survival rate was recorded in treatment E (100%), while the highest weight growth occurred in treatment A (control). Water quality parameters, including pH, DO, and temperature, remained within optimal ranges for Zebra fish culture throughout the study

Abstract

This community service program introduced ocean literacy, basic diving skills, and marine safety to high school and university students in Sorong. The activity aimed to improve participants' introductory knowledge and skills in basic diving, safety at sea, and human-resource development for the marine and fisheries sector. It was conducted at the Sorong Marine and Fisheries Polytechnic campus on 29 April 2026, 08:00-17:00 WIT. Training combined lectures, case studies, scuba-equipment demonstrations, and supervised practice at the campus beach. Topics covered diving equipment, basic techniques, buddy coordination, buoyancy, emergency procedures, diving health and pressure principles, and recognition of potentially dangerous marine life. Learning was evaluated through oral pre-test and post-test questions using equivalent competency indicators. The activity integrated classroom learning, equipment familiarization, and direct practice. Quantitative pre-test and post-test scores were not included in the data supplied for manuscript preparation; therefore, numerical learning gains should be added after the evaluation recap is available.

Abstract

Tuna trim is a fishery by-product with potential for processing into surimi-based value-added products. This study evaluated the effects of κ-carrageenan concentrations (0.5%, 1.0%, and 1.5% w/w; two replications per treatment) on the proximate composition, sensory characteristics, and physical quality of tuna trim surimi patties. Proximate parameters, including moisture, ash, protein, fat, and crude fiber, were analyzed according to AOAC methods. Sensory evaluation was conducted using a 5-point hedonic scale for texture, taste, color, and flavor, while physical quality was assessed using folding and biting tests. Descriptive statistics were calculated for all parameters, and differences among treatments were analyzed using the Kruskal–Wallis test (α = 0.05) because the small number of replications did not meet the normality assumption required for parametric ANOVA. The results showed that carrageenan addition did not significantly affect any proximate or sensory parameter (p > 0.05). Moisture content ranged from 60.66–63.89%, ash from 1.88–1.94%, protein from 12.27–13.05%, fat from 0.145–0.207%, and crude fiber from 5.97–6.40%. Although the sensory differences were not statistically significant, the 1.0% κ-carrageenan treatment yielded the highest mean sensory scores and the best physical quality, achieving Grade A in the folding test and a chewy texture in the biting test. In contrast, patties containing 0.5% and 1.5% κ-carrageenan tended to break during physical testing. Therefore, 1.0% κ-carrageenan represents the most promising formulation for further development of tuna trim surimi patties.
