Abstract

Abstract

The Long-tailed Macaque Macaca fascicularis is an Endagered primate because species' population decline very rapidly due to high levels of hunting for trade. A survey to collect data on the M. fascicularis population was carried out in the lowland areas of South Sumatra Province on 7 September-16 October 2023. This survey was carried out in 17 sites in four main districts/cities, including Palembang, Musi Banyuasin, Banyuasin and Ogan Ilir. This survey was recorded 4,316 individuals of M. fascicularis. This number suggest that M. fascicularis has good population number and still commonly found at the survey sites. Based on the survey coverage of the survey area and the total number of ??the lowlands in South Sumatra, we estimate the population of M. fascicularis in the lowlands in this province to be around 300,000 individuals. Further surveys are needed to determine the exact number of M. fascicularis populations in South Sumatra Province.

Abstract

Abstract

The H. M. Yasin Limpo Street corridor in Gowa Regency is experiencing increasingly dense and uncontrolled development, indicating a mismatch with the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW). This situation threatens to degrade urban spatial quality, reduce comfort and safety, and hinder the realization of sustainable urban environments. The rapid and extensive land use changes in this area highlight the need for an in-depth study of the relationship between rising land values and land use transformation. This study aims to analyze the influence of land value on land use change within the corridor. A descriptive quantitative approach was used, employing overlay analysis, time series analysis, and comparative techniques to identify and assess land use dynamics over the past five years. The results show a 76.3% (1.32 ha) increase in commercial and service land, a 20.4% (1.27 ha) decrease in open land, and a 37.9% (1.27 ha) increase in built-up areas. Land value rose by 14.1%, from IDR 3,900,000/m² to IDR 4,450,000/m², contributing to a 32.67% intensification in land use change, predominantly toward commercial and service functions.

Abstract

The transformation of coastal areas in Indonesia is now at a critical point due to the acceleration of climate change that triggers sea level rise and the intensity of extreme hydrometeorological phenomena. As an archipelagic country with a coastline of more than 95,000 kilometers, Indonesia faces an existential challenge in protecting its coastal ecosystem from the threat of destructive abrasion. This study discusses the problem of coastal abrasion in Bonto Bahari District, especially in Sapolohe Village, which has eroded about 850 meters of coastline and threatened dozens of residents' homes and the livelihoods of coastal communities. Overlay analysis showed that Sapolohe had the highest level of abrasion risk (score 5.0), followed by Tanah Lemo (3.5) and Bira (3.0), while Benjala was classified as safe (score 0). The results of the Likert scale analysis show that the level of abrasion mitigation efforts is in the category of adequate (48.11%), with community knowledge (50.7%), the implementation of institutional programs (45%), and socio-cultural values (48.65%) still need to be improved. The mitigation efforts implemented include training, socialization, mangrove planting, and strengthening local socio-cultural values. A community participatory approach is considered important to create an effective and sustainable abrasion mitigation strategy in the coastal area of Bonto Bahari.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of Pasang Ri Kajang into Regional Regulation (Perda) No. 9 of 2015 of Bulukumba Regency and its relevance to sustainable development within the Ammatoa Kajang Indigenous Community. Pasang Ri Kajang, as the philosophical foundation of the community, embodies ecological ethics, social norms, and moral values that regulate human interaction with nature. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving customary leaders, community members, and local government officials. The findings indicate that Perda No. 9/2015 functions as a formal instrument that institutionalizes the values of Pasang, particularly in protecting customary land rights, preserving cultural traditions, and managing customary forests through conservation principles. This integration produces a hybrid governance model that combines the moral legitimacy of customary norms with the legal certainty of state regulation. The implementation of the regulation contributes positively to ecological, social, and economic sustainability, although it still faces challenges such as modernization pressures, land-use conversion, and weak policy enforcement. Overall, the study highlights the crucial role of Pasang Ri Kajang in strengthening sustainable environmental governance at the local level.
