Abstract

This study aims to explore the influence of traditional bakiak games on the gross motor skills of early childhood. The research adopts a quantitative approach with an experimental design, specifically utilizing a pre-experimental One Group Pretest-posttest design. The participants include all children at Mutiara Bunda Early Childhood Education (PAUD), amounting to 18 children, who were selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through observation sheets. Prerequisite tests, such as normality and homogeneity tests, were conducted, followed by hypothesis testing using the t-test. The findings indicate that the t-table value at a significance level of 5% supports the research hypothesis, leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis and the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis. The findings of this research underline the importance of incorporating traditional games like bakiak into early childhood education to enhance gross motor skills.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of a realistic mathematics learning approach (PMR) on the ability to recognize the concept of numbers. This research is a quantitative research with pre-experimental design. This research was conducted at Pertiwi Batusangkar Kindergarten, Tanah Datar District. The data collection technique in this study is total sampling. In general, the results of this study indicate that the open-ended learning approach has a significant effect, that t0 is greater than the tt value table (14.01> 2.9980), so the null hypothesis (h0) proposed is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (ha) accepted to develop the ability to recognize children's number concepts at the age of 4-5 years. Thus the realistic mathematics education learning approach (PMR) has an effect on the introduction of the concept of numbers in early childhood.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of playing the traditional musical instrument Talempong Pacik on the musical intelligence of children aged 5-6 years. The research employs a quantitative approach using an experimental method. The sample consists of 21 children selected through simple random sampling. Data collection techniques include observation sheets to assess the development of children's musical intelligence. Data analysis is conducted using a t-test. The results show a significant influence of playing the traditional musical instrument Talempong Pacik on the musical intelligence of children aged 5-6 years, with a t value greater than t_t (39.28 > 2.08), leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis (h) and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (h). This indicates that playing the traditional musical instrument Talempong Pacik can be an effective means of supporting learning to develop children's musical intelligence.

Abstract

The recognition of Arabic vocabulary in early childhood education is a vital component in fostering foundational language skills, yet remains constrained by limited access to effective learning media. This study aims to develop animated video media using the Macromedia Flash application to support Arabic vocabulary acquisition among early learners in preschool settings. Utilizing a research and development approach with a modified 4-D modelÔÇöfocusing on the define, design, and develop stagesÔÇöthe study employed expert validation sheets and teacher response questionnaires to evaluate the mediaÔÇÖs validity and practicality. The animated video, themed around school equipment, was designed to promote vocabulary learning through engaging visual narratives. The media attained a high validity score of 89.33% in terms of construct, content, and language, and a 90% practicality rating from educators, indicating its relevance and applicability in classroom contexts. These findings affirm that the developed animated video is both valid and practical, offering a promising tool for enhancing Arabic vocabulary instruction in early childhood education.┬á┬á

Abstract

Purpose – A lack of interactive and developmentally appropriate educational tools has limited young children's understanding of basic sexual education. This study aims to develop an interactive smart poster as a responsive educational medium tailored for children aged 5–6 years to introduce foundational concepts of sexual education in an engaging and age-appropriate manner. Method – This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) design using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate) by Thiagarajan, focusing on the development phase. Data were gathered through expert validation and practitioner assessments using standardized instruments to evaluate media validity and practicality. Validity assessments included aspects of visual design, language clarity, and media functionality. Practicality was measured based on the content’s relevance and its applicability in early childhood classroom settings. The instruments were reviewed by two content experts and two early childhood educators. Findings – The interactive smart poster achieved a validity score of 90.59%, indicating a high level of validity, and a practicality score of 90.71%, denoting high practicality. These results support the media’s suitability and potential effectiveness in introducing basic sexual education concepts to young learners. Research implications/limitations – The study is limited to the developmental stage and initial feasibility testing. Future studies should explore the long-term impact, scalability, and integration of the smart poster into diverse educational contexts. Originality/value – This study offers an innovative approach by integrating responsive visual media into early childhood sexual education. The use of smart posters represents a novel contribution to pedagogical tools aimed at fostering early awareness in a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate manner.

Abstract

Purpose – Symbolic thinking is a fundamental cognitive ability that enables children to understand and use symbols, such as numbers and letters, to represent real-world concepts. This study aims to develop the Magic Cube Numbers educational tool to enhance symbolic thinking skills in children aged 4–5 years. Design/methods/approach – This research utilizes a Research and Development (R&D) approach, adopting the 4D model by Thiagarajan—Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate—while focusing on the Develop stage. Data were collected using expert validation sheets and teacher practicality questionnaires, with evaluations conducted by two expert validators and two practitioner teachers. Findings – The Magic Cube Numbers tool obtained a validity score of 82.14%, categorized as "very valid," and a practicality score of 93.84%, categorized as "very practical." These results demonstrate the tool’s relevance, usability, and potential to support children’s symbolic thinking development. Research implications/limitations – The findings suggest that Magic Cube Numbers is an effective medium for strengthening symbolic recognition and early numeracy. However, the study is limited by its small sample size and specific setting. Broader testing and long-term observation are recommended for generalization and sustainability. Originality/value – This study offers a novel contribution by focusing specifically on symbolic thinking—an often underrepresented aspect of early cognitive development. Through a play-based approach that integrates numerical and alphabetical symbols, Magic Cube Numbers provides practical value for educators and enriches early learning strategies rooted in cognitive development theory.

Abstract

This community service aims to enhance early childhood memory in hadith memorization through movement-based training. The participatory action research (PAR) method was employed, involving 20 young children as participants. The program was conducted in four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The results indicated a significant improvement in the participants' memory skills, with an overall increase of 45%. Initially, a considerable percentage of the children (45%) had poor competency, which was improved to a satisfactory level of 85%. In conclusion, the implementation of this training and support program effectively enhances early childhood memory in hadith memorization, demonstrating its potential as a valuable educational approach. Future programs could benefit from incorporating similar movement-based methods to foster cognitive development in young learners. Additionally, continued collaboration between educators and parents will further support the children’s progress and reinforce the skills learned during the training.
