Abstract

Background: Physical distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the activities of daily living (ADLs) of families, such as physical and psychosocial aspects, self-efficacy, family social function, and overall quality of life. However, research investigating the effects of home health care in enhancing these aspects during the physical distancing period remains limited.Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of implementing home health care on physical and psychosocial aspects, self-efficacy, family social function, and quality of life of families in East Java Province, Indonesia. Methods: A quasi-experimental study was conducted among 768 healthy families that were purposively recruited from April to May 2020. The home health care program was implemented for one month to provide nursing care to the families. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires, and SPSS software was employed for data analysis. Chi-square tests were applied for categorical variables, while paired t-tests were used for continuous variables. Results: Significant differences were observed in blood pressure, pulse, and temperature before and after the implementation of home health care during the physical distancing period (p<0.05). There was an increase in body mass index (23.29(5.59) vs. 23.78(7.53); p=0.001). Notably, significant differences were also found in COVID-19 exposure risk factors, personal risk factors, sleep patterns, and physical activity before and after home health care (p<0.05). Furthermore, improvements were noted in self-efficacy, family social function, and the quality of life of the families after one month of home health care (p<0.05).Conclusion: Home health care during physical distancing positively affected the physical and psychosocial aspects, self-efficacy, family social function, and quality of life of the families. Thus, the guidance and support offered through home health care should be further developed to help families navigate the “new normal” era of COVID-19.

Abstract

Traumatic brain injury is a leading cause of death among motorized vehicle users and is caused by a failure to maintain road safety. Traumatic brain injury can result in physical, psychological, and even fatal changes. Patients with head injuries may experience impaired consciousness due to bleeding in the head, which causes an increase in intracranial pressure. Nursing interventions such as head positioning at 30° may be given to patients with traumatic brain injuries. To examine the implementation of giving a 30° head-up position to the level of consciousness in patients with traumatic brain injury. The results obtained from giving the patient a 30° head-up position are that the patient has an increased level of consciousness. The patient's level of consciousness at the initial assessment was GCS E2 VX M5, and nursing intervention was carried out by giving the head-up position 30° for three days, namely E4 VX M5. Giving a head-up position of 30° affects the level of consciousness in patients with traumatic brain injury.

Abstract

Patients with neurological disorders, especially those with reduced consciousness, will experience a decrease in their ability to mobilize. Patients who experience decreased ability to mobilize for a long time are at risk of developing pressure sores. The presence of pressure in the protruding bone area causes pressure sores that block blood flow and cause injury to necrosis of the skin tissue. Interventions that nurses can do to improve blood flow to reduce the occurrence of pressure sores, namely by doing back massage. Back massage helps improve circulation in areas where the bones are protruding so that it can prevent pressure sores. This study aimed to explain the effectiveness of the Back Massage Therapy intervention in preventing pressure sores in patients with a decreased level of consciousness. The research method used is a case study with a research time of 3 days with data sources obtained from medical records, assessments, and direct observation of patients. Based on the results of the evaluation before and after the back massage, it showed that there was a change in the condition of the skin before and after the procedure, namely there were no signs of redness, abrasions, bluish or necrosis in the back area and bony prominences. Back Massage can reduce the risk of pressure sores in patients with decreased consciousness.

Abstract

Indonesia, as one of the world's largest tropical countries, has a very high incidence of snake bites. Among agricultural workers, the high risk of snake bites is attributed to the lack of necessary preventive measures, such as wearing gloves, boots, and other personal protective equipment to avoid snake bites. Open living spaces in rural areas and the habit of sleeping on the floor also pose a potential risk of bites from nocturnal snakes. Therefore, this community service aims to innovate interventions and explore the outcomes of intervention innovations regarding the management of first aid for snake bites in the community. The applied method involves providing education on first aid for snake bites to the community through lectures and demonstrations. There was an improvement in the knowledge level, with the category of "sufficient" increasing from 9 individuals (39.1%) to 15 individuals (65.2%). The Wilcoxon statistical test results indicated a significant impact of the program, with a P-value of 0.001 (<0.005). Providing education to a combined farmers' group through lectures and demonstrations effectively enhances knowledge and skills related to first aid for snake bites.
