Abstract

Uterovaginal prolapse (UVP) in children is a rare condition that can pose diagnostic challenges, particularly in clinical and forensic contexts. This study aims to evaluate, through a literature review, whether Uterovaginal prolapse can be considered a potential indicator of child sexual abuse or is instead a pathological condition that requires careful differentiation. The method used was a literature review involving a search of 30 databases. From the search results, a number of relevant articles were identified. Through a selection process based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, seven scientific articles were selected for further analysis. Several reports in the literature emphasize the importance of a comprehensive evaluation because the similarity of these symptoms can lead to bias in both clinical and forensic interpretations. These findings indicate that Uterovaginal prolapse may be indicative of child sexual abuse, as it shares clinical similarities with certain conditions, underscoring the importance of differential diagnosis. Therefore, physicians, particularly those in the forensic field, must conduct a comprehensive evaluation to distinguish between pathological conditions and potential sexual abuse. The development of clear clinical guidelines and interdisciplinary collaboration between medical professionals and law enforcement are crucial for improving diagnostic accuracy and preventing inappropriate legal consequences.

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Nutrition is a crucial factor in the body's growth and development process, particularly for the jawbones and teeth. A lack of proper nutrition can lead to slow growth of the maxilla and mandible, resulting in an imbalance in the relationship between the upper and lower jaw arches. This disharmony can cause malocclusion. The objective of this study was to review the most recent cross-sectional studies from the last 10 years that report on the relationship between malnutrition and malocclusion. Purpose: To find out more information on the influence of malnutrition on the occurrence in malocclusion. Methods: The literature survey was carried out using the Google Scholar, Sciencedirect and PubMed databases. Data search utilized the Boolean Search method. Results: The initial search yielded 58 citations which were then selected and duplicates were removed. There were 10 articles found. Conclusion: The studies cited in this literature review indicate that not all journals suggest a significant difference between malnutrition and malocclusion.

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: The symptoms of acne vulgaris, a chronic inflammatory condition of the sebaceous glands, include comedones, papules, pustules, and nodules. Eighty to one hundred percent of people have acne vulgaris. Adolescent boys aged 16-19 and females aged 14-17 had the highest incidence. It is projected that sleeping late at night would enhance the activity of androgenic hormones, which regulate the mechanism of sebum production in the skin. This will make the skin greasier, making it more prone to acne than normal, dry skin. Reviewing the association between acne vulgaris incidence and sleep quality among 17-23-year-old students at Wijaya Kusuma University’s Faculty of Medicine in Surabaya was the aim of the Study. Methods: Data from 196 respondents were gathered for this study using a cross-sectional survey method.  All sample is a females. When analyzing data, SPSS Statistics is used to process the Chi-Square Test. Results: The study’s findings indicate that 83 respondents (58,5%) had mild acne vulgaris, 52 respondents (36,6%) had moderate acne vulgaris, and 7 respondents (4,9%) had severe acne vulgaris. Of the respondents, the majority (116 respondents, 81,7%) did not have enough sleep or had poor quality of sleep. While 26 respondents (18,3%) had a good quality of sleep. The Chi-Square test findings indicated a correlation between the incidence of acne vulgaris and sleep quality, with a value of 0.04<0.05.Conclusion: The strain of studying and a full lecture schedule can make it difficult to manage their time effectively, leading to a lack of sleep patterns and quality. Hormones are impacted, and a contributing element is an unclean face.

Abstract

Background: Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the supporting tissues of the teeth. Animal models are commonly used to study its pathogenesis and the effects of various exposures. E-cigarette vapor contains nicotine and other harmful substances that may induce inflammation. Cotinine and interleukin-6 (IL-6) serve as biomarkers of nicotine exposure and inflammatory response. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate cotinine and IL-6 levels in Wistar rats exposed to e-cigarette vapor and to assess the relationship between nicotine exposure and systemic inflammation in periodontitis. Methods: Twelve Wistar rats were divided into treatment and control groups. The treatment group was exposed to e-cigarette vapor for 35 days (30 puffs/day), while the control group received no exposure. Cotinine and IL-6 levels were measured using Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). Independent t-tests and Pearson correlation analyses were performed. Results : The treatment group exposed to e-cigarette vapor showed higher IL-6 and cotinine levels compared to the control group. The mean for IL-6 was 27,5 pg/mL (treatment group) and 13,8 pg/mL (control group), while for cotinine it was 227,6 ng/mL (treatment group) and 175,4 ng/mL (control group). A positive correlation was observed (r = 0.515; p = 0.086), although this did not reach statistical significance. Conclusion: E-cigarette vapor exposure increased cotinine and IL-6 levels in Wistar rats, indicating enhanced systemic inflammation. However, these findings should be interpreted with caution due to the small sample size and animal model. Further studies involving larger samples and human subjects are needed to confirm these results and determine their clinical relevance. Keywords: Cotinine, Electronic_Cigarette, Interleukin-6, Periodontitis
