Abstract

Abstract

Sweet potatoes have an excellent opportunity to develop food consumption diversification programs based on local resources, carbohydrate sources, sources of various nutrients, industrial raw materials and animal feed, and different processed products. This study aims to analyze the development of food socially and culturally. The research was conducted using a survey method in Kalitengah District, Lamongan, Indonesia. Sampling was done purposively in 4 sweet potato center villages, with 165 farmer respondents. Data analysis uses descriptive analysis. The results of the study show that the age of sweet potato farmers is relatively old, an average of 53 years, while the education level of farmers is low, with 75.80% having a primary school education. 75.80% of farmers have over 30 years of experience cultivating sweet potatoes, and everything has been done culturally for generations. Farmers consume sweet potatoes that have not yet become a culture, which is 74.50%. A recommendation for valuable improvements is to train farmers on fertilizers and storage facilities. Efforts to develop sweet potato cultivation will be instrumental in policy making. In the future, it is hoped that the community will be able to improve the culture of consuming sweet potatoes.

Abstract

The extensive use of synthetic insecticides has led to environmental contamination, pest resistance, and adverse effects on non-target organisms. Botanical insecticides provide a safer alternative for sustainable pest management. This study evaluated the insecticidal activity of betel leaf (Piper betle L.) and Lantana camara leaf extracts against armyworm (Spodoptera litura).  A laboratory bioassay was conducted using three extract concentrations (30%, 40%, and 50%) arranged in a completely randomized design. Larval mortality was recorded daily for seven days after application and analyzed using ANOVA followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a 5% significance level. Both botanical extracts significantly increased larval mortality over time. Mortality began to rise on the second day and increased sharply on the third and fourth days after application. By the fifth day, all extract treatments resulted in nearly 100% mortality, while no mortality occurred in the control. Cumulative mortality patterns indicated that Lantana camara induced a faster initial lethal effect, whereas Piper betle showed a slightly delayed but equally effective response. No significant differences were observed among concentrations, indicating that a 30% concentration was sufficient for effective control. These results highlight the potential of betel leaf and Lantana camara extracts as effective botanical insecticides for armyworm management.

Abstract

Cowpea is a type of legume that contains a lot of protein. One of the uses of cowpea as a food ingredient is protein isolate. The purpose of this study was to determine the type and concentration of chemicals suitable for cowpea protein isolate as well as its physical and chemical properties. Implementation of modified cowpea protein isolate was divided into three stages. The first stage is to determine the best results from the addition of certain types and concentrations of chemicals: a) CH3COOH (3%, 5%, 7%); b) CaSO4 (0.25%; 0.30%; 0.35%) and c) MgSO4 (0.25%; 0.30%; 0.35%). The second stage is to combine each of the best treatments. There are three treatments, namely treatment A is the addition of the best CH3COOH concentration with the best CaSO4 concentration. Treatment B is the best concentration of CH3COOH and the best concentration of MgSO4. Treatment C was the best concentration of CaSO4 and the best concentration of MgSO4. The third stage is the analysis of the physical and chemical properties of the treatment combinations formed. Each treatment was replicated three times. The data obtained were then analyzed descriptively. The results of the analysis are presented in the form of tables and histograms. The best treatment of chemically modified cowpea protein isolate was in treatment C (addition of 0.35% CaSO4 and 0.35% MgSO4), which had a gel strength texture of 13.87 gram force/0.1mm; with a water content of 81.04%; ash 6.77%; and protein 92.53%; and has the highest protein solubility at pH 8 of 22.47 mg/g.

Abstract

This research aims to determine (1) the potential for agricultural digitalization in Indonesia; and (2) strategies to improve harvest quality and farmer welfare in Indonesia through agricultural digitalization. This research is qualitative- descriptive research. The results of this research show that (1) Agricultural digitalization has the potential to change farmers' mindsets in order to maximize and utilize the digital era so that it can encourage farmer independence. The government needs to prepare superior human resources in utilizing agricultural digitalization supported by Indonesia's abundant diversity of agricultural products; and (2) agricultural digitalization strategies to improve harvest quality and farmer welfare in Indonesia, including the SO strategy through promoting agricultural digitalization to improve harvest quality and farmer welfare, the WO strategy by developing the concept of agricultural digitalization (digitalization of agricultural processing and marketing), the ST strategy through work cooperation between the government and agricultural stakeholders supports agricultural digitalization, and WT's strategy is to educate agricultural product business actors to utilize agricultural digitalization.
