Abstract

Mangroves are biological natural resources that have the potential to provide benefits for human life and aquatic biota organisms. Mangrove ecosystems have ecological and economic functions in coastal areas. The Gampong Lamtutui area has an important role because it is a provider of natural resources and environmental services with great potential in terms of ecology, economy and tourism. So far, the activities that occur in the mangrove ecosystem area in Lamtutui have an unfavorable impact on the mangrove vegetation in that location, due to the large number of uses of the mangrove area for vannamei shrimp pond areas, so that the structure of mangrove vegetation at various growth levels changes. The purpose of this service is to raise awareness and motivation for the coastal communities of Gampong Lamtutui to replant mangroves as a form of concern for the preservation of coastal ecosystems. This service activity is carried out for two days, from October 30, 2021 to October 31, 2021. The location of this service is in Gampong Lamtutui, Peukan Bada District, Aceh Besar Regency. The method of activity used in this activity is counseling and mentoring mangrove planting. The results of this service activity are the planting of 1,000 stems of Rhizophora sonneratia mangrove tree seeds in Gampong Lamtutui, as well as the establishment of cooperation with a group of local fishermen for monitoring the mangrove trees that have been planted.

Abstract

Damage to mangroves on the West Aceh coast due to the disaster tsunami and the increasing utilization of economic activities towards the beach area makes mangrove planting activities necessary. Service activities aim to support the benefits of conservation and expansion of mangrove ecosystems on the Coas of Peunaga Cut Ujong, Meurebo District, West Aceh Regency. This planting activity is a collaborative activity between industry players, academics, and the surrounding community which was initiated by PT MIFA Bersaudara as a form of concern for the environment and concrete action in contributing to coastal ecosystem conservation, especially for achieving the SDGs. The types of mangroves planted were Rhizophora apiculata and Rhizophora mucronate. This planting uses a planting method with artificial regeneration which involves planting seeds, propagules, or mangrove seedlings by moving the seedlings to a new location. Mangrove planting activities in Peunaga Cut Ujong managed to get attention and attention from the village community. Not only involved directly in mangrove planting activities but also committed to the maintenance and monitoring of the planted mangroves. In addition, the success of mangrove planting is also evident from the low mortality rate (5%) of the seedlings. The addition of more leaves, height, and mangrove roots that have begun to appear in some mangrove stands was observed seven months after planting.

Abstract

Ekosistem mangrove tumbuh disepanjang pesisir Kabupaten Aceh Timur Provinsi Aceh.

Abstract

The coral reef ecosystem on Seureudong Island, Sawang Bau Village, Sawang District, South Aceh is very important for the surrounding ecosystem, with the fringing reef type, namely the shape of its growth around the island. This study aims to determine the current condition of coral cover and the types available on Seureudong Island. The method used is the Point Intercept Transect (PIT). The results showed that the forms of coral found at the study site were branching, digitate, encrusting, foliose, massive, mushroom, plates, and submassive. The percentage of the bottom substrate is dominated by hard coral (hard coral) at 45.3%, Dead Coral with Algae/DCA (37.11%), and (9.89%), rubble of 3.56%, rock (1.56%), algae turf (1.44%), macroalgae (1%) and dead coral (0.11%). At the study site, 25 genera were found with Porites (36%) as the most common genus found. At the research location, there are also genera with a total presence of less than 1%. These genera are Acanthastrea, Ctenactis, Favia, Favites, Fungia, Gardineroseris, Goniopora, Halimeda, Heliopora, Hydnophora, Leptastrea, Montastrea, Pavona, and Seriatopora. The quality of the waters at the research location still complies with the standards of coral life. The results of these observations must be carried out periodically so that they can always update the condition of the coral reefs on Seureudong Island

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe research aims to determine the structure of the plankton community in the waters of Gampong Peunaga Cut Ujong, Meureubo, Meulaboh, West Aceh. The study was conducted in September 2023. The collection point consisted of 3 stations, and sampling was carried out at high tide with three repetitions. The filtering process uses a plankton net with a mesh size of 30 µm. Phytoplankton at the research location consists of five classes, namely Cyanophyceae, Euglenophyceae, Chlorophyceae, Bacillariophyceae, and Dinophyceae. Meanwhile, zooplankton consists of 7 groups consisting of Protozoa, Rotifera, Crustacea, Polychaeta, Gastropoda, Pelecypoda, and Nematoda. Phytoplankton has the highest percentage in the Bacillariophyceae class, reaching 71.7%, and the lowest 1% (Dinophyceae, Euglenophyceae, and Chlorophyceae). The abundance of phytoplankton at station three during the study ranged between 2,025,600 cells/m3 - 6,710,400 cells/m3 and zooplankton in the range of 23,400 ind/m3 - 33,480 ind/m3. The average diversity index (H') for phytoplankton was 1.04, the uniformity index (E) was 0.40, and the dominance index (C) was 0.50. Meanwhile, zooplankton has values H' (1.42), E (0.65), and D (0.36). To maintain the Peunaga estuary area as an ideal buffer area, it is recommended to regularly monitor the community structure of aquatic biota (plankton, benthos, and fish). Keywords: buffer ecosystem, community structure, dominance index, Navicula sp.
