Abstract

The reluctance of the community to dispose of waste at the Final Disposal Site (TPA) becomes an obstacle to effective urban waste management. The accumulation of waste over time can lead to water pollution problems. One waste management method is composting. Compost is a biodegradable substance that can retain moisture while decomposing in the air and under sunlight. The basic principle of composting technology is based on the natural decomposition process of organic materials. To address this issue, Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC) can be used. POC is a liquid fertilizer made from various organic materials, such as plants and food scraps. Waste and residues in the body will decompose anaerobically (without oxygen) without the help of sunlight. This activity was carried out at the Pohroh City Hall, Meureudu Subdistrict, Pidie Jaya Regency, on June 8, 2023. The program aims to educate the surrounding community that household waste, such as vegetable waste and rice washing water, can be utilized as liquid fertilizer, which plays an important role in tree planting. This community service was conducted at the Pohroh Village Hall, Meureudu Subdistrict, Pidie Jaya Regency. The production of liquid organic fertilizer (POC) from household waste begins with making a sample using simple tools and materials, such as a bucket, sieve, 1.5-liter mineral water bottle, sugar, rice washing water, vegetable/fruit waste water, and EM4. The success of POC production can be seen from the presence of white spots on the surface, a yellow-brown color, and a scent resembling fermented rice, but without a foul odor. Through education on household waste management, it is hoped that it will increase the community's knowledge, understanding, and innovation in managing household waste.

Abstract

Utilization and management of mangroves in the Mangrove Ecotourism Area has been carried out since 2018. Mangroves are one of the unique ecosystems in the coastal area and have been widely used by the community. This community service activity aims to increase the role of women's groups in the utilization and preservation of coastal ecosystems. Given that Aceh Jaya is one of the locations in Aceh Province that already has a mangrove area of ± 300 ha. This community service uses a mixed field-based method, with direct observation, open interviews, and structured discussions with managers, group members, and the community which began in July and will end in December 2024. The results of the community service show that fishing, crab, and tourism activities are the main activities in the utilization of mangroves by the community around the eco-tourism area. Although previously women had been indirectly involved in the utilization of mangroves, with this community service activity, women's group members are more active in participating directly in each stage. The increase in the role of female members involved can be seen in the increase in the percentage of knowledge and participation in planting. This service provides input into the management pattern of mangrove ecosystems, especially in nurseries, with the division of tasks and responsibilities, the activeness of members in each stage is not impossible to continue to improve.

Abstract

Kata kunci: LC50-96 jam, toksisitas, mortalitas ikan ABSTRACT  Mangrove forest ecosystems in Indonesia have economic and ecological functions. One of the economic potentials of R. apiculata mangrove is a natural ingredient that functions as a bioactive used in medicine for humans and animals. Coastal communities also use mangrove leaves as ingredients for making nutritious beverage products. Furthermore, the ecological potential is as a barrier to sea waves and as a habitat for biota. However, the content of compounds in mangrove leaves collected from Lhok Bubon coast that can affect the survival of fish directly influences changes in water quality parameters. The impact of soaking mangrove leaves is at risk of disrupting the physiological activity of fish, then if the waters experience changes in physical and chemical factors, it can produce toxins for various biota. This study aimed to determine the LC50-96 hour value during immersing R. apiculata leaves which have a toxic impact on the test biota. The test biota used was mollyfish (Poecilia sp.) which is usually used as an indicator of environmental change. This study was conducted by determining concentrations including 10, 20, 30, 40, 50% then analyzed using the probit analysis method. The results showed an LC50-96 hour value obtained from the composite results of all concentration treatments from soaking R. apiculata leaves of 559.16 ppm, which means it is included in the low toxic category. However, the percentage of toxicity level showed 6% so that it could induce fish mortality. Keywords:  LC50-96 hour, toxicity, fish mortality

Abstract

Marine debris has become an increasing environmental threat in the world. West Aceh's coast is designated for tourism and fishing activities. This study determines the composition, characteristics, and abundance of waste on two selected beaches with economic activities for fishing (daily activities of coastal communities) and tourism activities. Garbage collection was carried out on two beaches on the coast of Johan Pahlawan District, West Aceh Regency, namely Pasar Baro Beach and Ujung Karang Beach. Pasar Baro Beach and Ujung Karang Beach were chosen because they are near fish market activities and recreational beaches, respectively. Determination of the sampling area by distance, from the low tide line to the first vegetation or concrete on the beach. The sampling length was measured using a 100 m roll meter parallel to the coastline. The results showed that the total weight (%) and frequency of waste per category were highest in the household category at Pasar Baro Beach. While at Ujung Karang Beach, the highest frequency of garbage is found in the variety of plastic drink bottles. The difference in abundance at the two stations is due to differences in visits and activities of the surrounding community. In addition, due to the lack of local cleaning efforts and facilities that could be more optimal, piles of garbage are still found along the coast
