Abstract

Bahasa daerah merupakan kekayaan budaya yang perlu dilestarikan. Bahasa Bali menjadi salah satu bahasa daerah di Indonesia yang sangat kaya dengan kosakata. Untuk menyebutkan satu entitas seringkali kita temui berbagai variasi penyebutannya di masyarakat yang tinggal pada wilayah yang berbeda di Bali padahal mereka menggunakan bahasa yang sama yaitu bahasa Bali. Variasi penyebutan suatu entitas ini terkadang menjadi sesuatu yang terdengar aneh atau kurang dimengerti oleh penutur bahasa Bali yang berasal dari daerah yang berbeda namun menjadi ciri dan identitas daerah mereka yang dapat menghasilkan atmosfer kekeluargaan dan keakraban saat dipergunakan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan variasi leksikal bahasa Bali di daerah Kuta bagian Selatan khususnya daerah Ungasan, Jimbaran dan Kedonganan yang saat ini menjadi salah satu tempat tujuan wisata di Bali serta untuk memetakan bagaimana perkembangan variasi pilihan kata masyarakat lokal daerah tersebut setelah banyaknya interaksi dengan wisatawan asing dan lokal yang datang ke daerah Kuta bagian Selatan ini, sehingga rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah a) Bagaimana penggunaan variasi leksikal bahasa Bali di daerah Jimbaran, Ungasan dan Kedonganan dan b) Pada kelas kata apa  saja variasi leksikal yang terjadi. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode simak dengan teknik sadap, teknik libat cakap, teknik bebas libat cakap, teknik rekam dan teknik catat serta metode cakap dengan teknik pancing yang menjadi acuan dalam menemukan tujuan penelitian. Dari hasil analisis tiga dialek bahasa Bali daerah Kuta bagian Selatan ini, ditemukan beberapa variasi leksikal dalam kelas kata pronominal, nomina, kata sifat, kata kerja dan kata keterangan. Kemunculan variasi leksikal untuk kelas kata nomina muncul paling dominan. Pada dialek Jimbaran dan Kedonganan banyak ditemukan penggunaan leksikal yang sama. Pada dialek Ungasan ditemukan lebih banyak perbedaan leksikal yang digunakan untuk merujuk suatu yang sama.Language describes the culture of local society because in the culture activity, the community has not off from the language as a tool of interaction. Balinese language is a traditional language spoken by the local people of Bali. Differences or variations in the use of Balinese language can be observed in each district at the level of sound, morphological, syntactic and lexical. The variation in Balinese language raises particular dialect in each region. This aims of this study is to find out the lexical variations in the three different area those are Jimbaran, Kedonganan and Unggasan. The method of collecting the data in this research are close observation method with refers to the technique of tapping, face-to-face interview technique, eave-dropping technique, recording and note-taking technique. Generally found there are some lexical variations found in these three areas used to mention the same things. The lexical variation found are in class of pronoun, noun, verb, adjective, and adverbial. The dominant variation is noun. In Jimbaran and Kedonganan has a similarity in lexical choice. Unggasan has many differences than the other areas because the location of this village is in highlands position.

Abstract

This study used qualitative method in analyzing the data and documentation method used in collecting the data that found in song lyrics. The data were taken from the song lyrics in Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent album. Based on Cruse (2000) and Cruse (2006) theory there are 507 deixis that found in this study. This study found 369 of person deixis with percentage 73%, 82 data of temporal deixis with percentage 17%, 38 data of spatial deixis with percentage 7%, 7 data of social deixis with percentage 1 % and 11 data of discourse deixis with percentage 2%.

Abstract

This study discusses the persuasive language used in the advertisements of Frankie magazine. Persuasive language is a language used for when someone wants to influence others people to do or believe something. The aim of this study is focused to analyse the types of persuasive technique found in advertisement of Frankie magazine. The data of this study was analysed in descriptive qualitative method. This study applied the theory based on the Keraf (2007) to analysing the types of persuasive technique. There are seven types of persuasive technique by Keraf (2007) namely: rationalization, identification, suggestion, conformity, compensation, displacement and projection. The result of this study found three persuasive techniques from the six advertisements of Frankie magazine, those are compensation technique, suggestion technique, identification technique. The most dominant types of persuasive technique were found in advertisements of Frankie magazine, they are; suggestion is 3 (50%) data and identification is 2 (33.3%) data. The lowest dominant data of compensation technique is 1 (16.6%) data. The used types of persuasive technique in advertisements of Frankie magazine is one of the technique to help communicates the message and the content in the advertisements to the reader.

Abstract

This study is aimed to find out the types of figurative language in Passenger’s song lyric in Runaway album, and to analyze the meaning of figurative language in Passenger’s song lyric in Runaway album. The writer used the theory from Arp & Perrine (1991) to identify the types of figurative language and the theory from Leech (1981) to analyze the meaning of figurative language. The result of this study showed that are 6 types of figurative language found in Passenger’s song lyric in Runaway album. There is personification, metaphor, imagery, simile, symbol, and overstatement. The writer found simile is 9 data or 30%, the second types of figurative language is metaphor with total of number 6 data or 20%, imagery category with 3 data or 10%, there is also personification with 4 data or 13.3%, symbol category with 4 data or 13.3%, and the last on is overstatement with 4 data or 13.3%.

Abstract

Abstract The objective of this study is to analyze the types and functions of illocutionary acts in the Nightbooks movie. To answer to the study questions, the writer used Searle and Leech theory. This research used qualitative method in applying content or document analysis. The Nightbooks movie is the subject of this study. The data was collected from some scene in the Nightbooks movie, which included an illocutionary act. To collect the data, the writer downloaded the film and watched it several times then taking noted based on the main character's utterances in the Nightbooks movie. While watching the film, the writer tried to find some sentences that may be considered illocutionary acts, which would be useful for the study. After collected the data, the writer analyzes the data used several steps, including classifying illocutionary acts into types and classifying the function of illocutionary acts depending on the data found. The following is the result of this study: Having 26 utterances, directives have the highest frequency of occurrence (36.61 %). It is followed by expressive, which has 17 utterances (23.95 %), representative, which has 16 utterances (22.53 %), and commissives, which has 12 utterances (16.91 %). Keywords: illocutionary act, main character, nightbooks movie Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis jenis dan fungsi tindak ilokusi dalam film Nightbooks. Penulis menggunakan teori dari Searle dan Leech untuk menjawab pertanyaan pada rumusan masalah di penelitian ini. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan menggunakan analisis isi atau dokumen. Subjek penelitian ini adalah film berjudul Nightbooks movie. Data yang digunakan adalah beberapa adegan yang termasuk kedalam tindak ilokusi dalam film Nightbooks. Untuk mengumpulkan data, penulis mendownload film dan menonton film Nightbooks beberapa kali, kemudian mencatat ucapan yang diucapkan oleh karakter utama dalam film Nightbooks. Saat menonton film, penulis mencoba menemukan beberapa kalimat yang dianggap memiliki tindak ilokusi yang diperlukan untuk di analisis. Setelah data terkumpul, penulis mengklasifikasikan data tersebut ke dalam jenis-jenis tindak ilokusi serta fungsi tindak ilokusi berdasarkan data yang telah ditemukan. Hasil penelitian ini dapat dilihat sebagai berikut: Direktif memiliki frekuensi kemunculan tertinggi atau 26 ucapan (36,61 %). Diikuti ekspresif dengan kemunculan 17 ucapan (23,95 %), representatif dengan kemunculan 16 ucapan (22,53 %), dan komisif dengan kemunculan 12 ucapan (16,91 %). Abstract

ABSTRACT This study is focused on investigating the Balinese dance lexicon, especially for the verbs and nouns, based on Natural Semantic Metalanguage. This study is a qualitative research design. The data was collected through observation, interviews, and note taking. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. For the analysis, semantic primes of natural Semantic Metalanguage theory are applied. The data analysis based on the following data classification, semantic structure analysis and components mapping to find out meaning configuration. The research result shows that semantic primes are very helpful and powerful to describe unwell-known lexicon in specific genre of language use in some lexicon in Balinese dance, especially in verb and noun. Abstract

ABSTRACT Balinese language is a traditional language spoken by the local people of Bali. In use, there are variations that have specific characteristics in each region. Differences or variations in the use of Balinese language can be observed in each district at the level of sound, morphological, syntactic and lexical. The variation in Balinese language raises particular dialect in each region. Accordingly, this study specifically addresses the lexical and sounds or phonological variation contained in the dialect of Balinese Language, specifically in the area of Jimbaran, Kedonganan and Unggasan and also found the factors contributing those variations happened. Sociolinguistics, Dialectology and Phonology Generative approaches were applied in the analysis of this research.The method of collecting the data in this research are close observation method with refers to the technique of tapping, face-to-face interview technique, eave-dropping technique, recording and note-taking technique.Generally found there are some lexical variation found in these three areas used to mention the same things. The lexical variation found are in class of pronoun, noun, verb, adjective, and adverbial. In phonological variation found there are 7 variations in Jimbaran, 5 variations in Kedonganan, and 7 variations in Ungasan. Those phonological variations also analyzed phonological rules to find out in what environment some sound of morpheme will change in each dialect.

Abstract

The aims of this research is to analyze the types of politeness maxims produced by the characters in Tuning Red Movie. The data in this research focuses on the utterances obtained from the conversations between the characters. This research used qualitative descriptive method to analyze the types of politeness maxim. The stages of data collection started from downloading the movie from the internet and then watching it repeatedly to understand the contents of the film. Next, take notes on every utterance spoken by the characters that can be used as data to clarify the types of politeness maxims. The last, categorize these utterances into six types of politeness based on Leech (1983) theory. The results of this research indicate that there are six types of politeness maxims used in this movie. First type is tact maxim, second type is generosity maxim, third is Approbation maxim, fourth is modesty maxim, fifth is agreement maxim and last type is symphaty maxim. It can be concluded that the movie contains all types of politeness maxim with their respective purpose.

Abstract

This research discuss flouting maxim found in He's All That movie. The purpose of this research is to determine the types of maxim that flouted by the whole characters in the movie. The data collecting was conducted by observation method. The technique for collecting data is by watching the movie for many times. Then, taking notes the utterances spoken by the characters, and categorized the scripts into types of flouting maxim. After that, the data were analyzed using the descriptive qualitative method. The researcher applied Grice’s theory to conduct this research. The findings showed that all the types of maxim were flouted by the characters in He's All That movie. The first is flouting maxim of quantity, second is flouting maxim of quality, third is flouting maxim of relevance, and fourth is flouting maxim of manner. Flouting maxim of quantity is the most often appears. The characters clearly give less or more information than is necessary in He’s All That movie. In addition, the characters give more information because they want to strengthen the information given to the interlocutor. Then, they want the interlocutor to understand the topic despite their lack of information.

Abstract

ABSTRACTPeople use language to interact and understand each other. In conversation, people notalways use polite word but also taboo word for the example to support the situation likefriendliness, familiarity or identity among communities. The uses of taboo words also toexpress a strong emotion feeling and it familiar as swear words. Swear words are the informalwords that are used by people to express their emotion in terrible situation. The existence ofswear words can be seen from various sources such as in movies, song lyrics, and televisionshows. This research concern with the use of swears words and its relationship with taboowords in Fist Fight movie. This movie was chosen as data source because there are manyswearing words uttered by the characters. This research were analyzed qualitatively andquantitatively using theories from Batistela (2015) to find the types of taboo words and theoryproposed by Swan (1995) to find the types of swearing words. The result show that all typesof strong and weak swear word used by the character depends on the situation. Exclamation ofannoyance is dominantly appear in strong swear word and exclamation of surprised is dominantused in weak swear word. All of strong swear word in Fist fight movie are considered as tabooword that refer to epithets, profanity, vulgarity and obscenity types. There are only a few ofweak swear words that are considered as taboo word in English.Keywords: swear word, taboo word, sociolinguistics, movieABSTRAKBahasa digunakan untuk berinteraksi dalam masyarakat. Dalam melangsungkanpercakapan, bahasa yang digunakan tidak selalu sopan terkadang juga menggunakan bahasatabu untuk mendukung situasi pertemanan, keakraban atau sebagai identitas antarakomunitas. Penggunaan bahasa tabu juga dapat digunakan untuk mengekspresikan perasaanyang lebih dikenal dengan “swear words”. Swear word merupakan kata-kata dalam bentukinformal yang digunakan untuk mengekspresikan perasaan dalam keadaan yang buruk.Keberadaan swear word dapat dilihat dari beragam sumber seperti film, lirik lagu, acara tv.Penelitian ini focus kepada penggunaan swear word dan hubungannya dengan bahasa tabudalam film Fist Fight. Film ini dipilih sebagai sumber data karena banyaknya swear wordyang digunakan oleh karakter. Penelitian ini dianalisis secara kualitatif dan kuantitatifmenggunakan teori dari Batistela (2015) tentang bahasa tabu dan teori dari Swan (1995)tentang swear word. Hasil dari penelitian ini yaitu seluruh tipe dari strong swear word andweak swear word ditemukan dalam film. Tipe swear word yang paling banyak muncul adalahexclamation of annoyance, dan tipe yang paling banyak muncul di weak swear word adalahexclamation of surprised. Seluruh tipe strong swear word termasuk dalam bahasa tabu yaitujenis epithets, profanity, vulgarity dan obscenity, namun tidak semua jenis weak swear wordtermasuk dalam kategori bahasa tabu.
