Abstract

The availability of fisheries infrastructure data in an area is the first step in improving and enhancing the management of the fisheries system, because the existence of fisheries infrastructure is an inseparable part in supporting the success of fishing activities. With accurate infrastructure data, it can be used as a reference in planning the development of marine and fisheries centers. In West Aceh Regency, there are currently many marine and fisheries infrastructures, but no research has been conducted on mapping fisheries centers based on the distribution of existing fisheries infrastructure. The absence of updated infrastructure data is worried to have an impact on the optimization of marine and fisheries resource management. The purpose of this study is to map fisheries centers based on the distribution of fisheries infrastructure. The method used in this study is the survey method, where data collection in the field was carried out in three sub-districts that directly border the coastal area, namely Samatiga District, Johan Pahlawan District and Meureubo District. The infrastructure coordinates obtained from the field will be processed and presented in the form of a map using the ArcGIS application. The results of the study showed that in West Aceh Regency there are 1 PPI and 6 TPI, 31 infrastructure for procurement and repair of fishing vessels, and 9 infrastructures before and  after fishing. The fisheries center in Samatiga District is in the Kuala Bubon area, the fisheries center in Johan Pahlawan District is along the Krueng Cangkoi estuary river, while the fisheries center in Meureubo District is in one of the rivers in Gampong Meureubo and Gampong Ujong Drien.

Abstract

AbstractOne of the fishing tools that has been used by traditional fishermen of Lhok Kuala Bubon is the trawl net, which has a relatively small catch and can slowly damage the bottom of the waters, so there is a need for fishing tools that are environmentally friendly and the catch obtained is suitable for fishing and has important economic value, one of which is the bottom trap. Therefore, there is a need for educational activities to introduce BuDar (bottom trap) technology, which is environmentally friendly and based on local resources, to these traditional fishing groups. The number of direct beneficiaries of this community service activity is 35 people or groups of traditional fishermen using fishing fleets <5 GT in the waters of West Aceh. This community service activity aims to introduce appropriate fishing gear, namely BuDar, to traditional fishing groups to increase income and reduce the use of fishing gear that is not environmentally friendly. The method used in this community service activity is using an educational method by providing education and outreach to traditional fishermen groups starting from FGD preparation for community service, implementation of community service, and evaluation of the implementation of activities. The results of the FGD on preparation for the activity found several main problems in the Lhok Kuala Bubon traditional fishermen group, namely that they still use trawl fishing gear, which can indirectly damage the waters, and that the traditional fishermen still do not understand alternative fishing gear that does not damage the environment. The emergence of active participation by the traditional fishermen group of Lhok Kuala Bubon from the education of environmentally friendly BuDar technology made from local resources available around Lhok Kuala Bubon Village so that the fishermen are interested in using bottom traps as an alternative to catch demersal fish, especially reef fish, which have important economic value. Keywords: education; BuDar; environmentally friendly; local resources; traditional fishermen.

Abstract

Trap fishing gear offers several advantages, including high selectivity, the ability to keep fish alive, and support for sustainable fisheries. The productivity of catches around coral reefs and fish aggregating devices (FADs) is important to study in order to evaluate fish diversity in deeper waters across biological, genetic, species, and ecological levels. Such assessments are crucial for environmental conservation and for management based on diversity and dominance indices. This study aimed to determine the productivity, diversity, and dominant species composition of trap catches in two fishing grounds (FGs): coral reef areas and FAD zones at Lhok Kuala Daya, Aceh Jaya. The research employed an experimental fishing method, conducting five fishing operations in each zone. The overall diversity index of trap catches in Lhok Kuala Daya was 1.26, indicating a moderate level of diversity. The diversity index for catches around coral reefs was 1.15, while around FADs it was 1.58. The overall dominance index value of trap catches was 2.74, with dominance values of 0.74 in coral reef areas and 2.00 in FAD zones. These results indicate a low level of species dominance and a moderately diverse fish community in both fishing zones. Keywords:ProductivityTrapcatchFishing groundKuala daya
