Abstract

The community service activity aims to improve teachers skills in designing interactive learning videos using Edpuzzle as an effort to strengthen teachers digital competencies in the era of 21st century learning. The community service method used is Participation Action Research (PAR), which consists of problem identification, planning, implementation, and the stage of collecting data to evaluate the results of the activity. The training was conducted at Rama Sejahtera Junior High School, Makassar City, involving eleven teachers who were selected purposively based on their teaching experience and interest in developing digital learning media. Descriptive quantitative statistical analysis was conducted to measure the improvement in participants' abilities and their feedback on the activity. The results showed an N-Gain value of 0.501, which is in the moderate category, indicated a significant increase int teachers skills in designing interactive learning videos. The average participant feedback score reached 4.5 out of 5 (90%), with the highest aspects being the clarity of the material and the delivery of the resource persons. In addition, 82% of participants also succeeded in producing interactive Edpuzzle-based learning videos that met the eligibility criteria for use in classroom learning. These findings showed that practice-based training is effective in improving teachers technical skills and pedagogical understanding of the use of Edpuzzle as an innovative learning medium. This activity has succeeded in encouraging teachers to be more innovative in designing learning media that is more interactive and relevant to students' needs

Abstract

The development of e-modules aims to become an effective learning resource for students, especially in studying acid-base material at the vocational school level. This research aims to evaluate the validity and responses of students to e-modules on acid-base material created using the Flip Book application. The research method used is development research with the ADDIE model. Data was analyzed quantitatively descriptively. The object of the trial is limited to practical aspects, namely class XI students in the Industrial Pharmacy skills program. The research results show that the e-module developed using Flip Book has been validated by material experts, media experts, chemistry subject teachers and pharmaceutical expertise programs, and laboratory assistants, with a score of 95.17%, indicating a very good category and suitable for use in learning . The results of the e-module practicality test of 3.58 are included in the very good category.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between students' cognitive abilities and their laboratory skills. The research was conducted using a quantitative approach with a correlational study design. The subjects of the study were 32 students from the Chemistry Education program. The laboratory skills assessed were related to activities in the Basic Chemistry laboratory, as this course integrates both classroom learning and laboratory practice. Cognitive ability data were obtained from quizzes, midterm exams, and final exams, while laboratory skills data were collected from assessments of pre-laboratory activities (assistance and response), laboratory experiment performance, practical reports, and a final exam conducted after all practical units were completed. The data analysis revealed a strong positive correlation between cognitive abilities and laboratory skills, with a correlation coefficient of 0.65.

Abstract

Abstract

General Background: Higher education requires students to master conceptual knowledge alongside scientific reasoning through structured argumentation involving claims, evidence, and reasoning. Specific Background: However, students’ conceptual understanding in basic physics often remains weak due to unstructured learning practices that fail to reveal reasoning processes and support evidence-based explanations. Knowledge Gap: Although argumentation-based learning is recognized in science education, its structured implementation using Claim-Evidence-Reasoning (ABL-CER) in higher education physics contexts remains insufficiently examined. Aims: This study aims to determine the effect of ABL-CER on students’ conceptual understanding in Basic Physics. Results: Using a quasi-experimental posttest-only control group design with 71 students, the experimental group achieved a higher mean score (72.43) than the control group (64.50), with a significant difference (Sig. 0.001 < 0.05). Novelty: This study demonstrates that structured argumentation through CER explicitly supports conceptual reasoning by requiring students to formulate claims, select relevant evidence, and connect them through scientific reasoning. Implications: The findings suggest that ABL-CER provides a systematic and assessable framework for strengthening conceptual understanding, particularly in physics topics prone to misconceptions, and supports its application in higher education and teacher preparation contexts. Highlights • Experimental class achieved higher posttest scores than comparison group• Structured reasoning process supports deeper conceptual processing• Argumentation activities facilitate evaluation and revision of ideas KeywordsArgumentation-Based Learning; Claim Evidence Reasoning; Conceptual Understanding; Basic Physics; Higher Education
