Abstract

HIV-AIDS and Tuberculosis (TB) are major health problems still faced by workers, especially in the industrial, construction, and migrant sectors. Lack of awareness, social stigma, and limited access to health information and services are major obstacles. Therefore, an effective educational approach and campaign are needed to raise awareness and shape preventive behavior in the work environment. This community service program aimed to improve workers' knowledge and attitudes regarding the prevention of HIV-AIDS and TB at PT X in Batam City. The method of implementing the activity includes initial observation, literature study, concept planning, implementation of education, focus group discussions (FGD), and evaluation through pre-post tests. The target of the activity is 30 PT X workers. Knowledge and attitudes are measured using a structured questionnaire, then the changes are analyzed after the educational intervention. Through educational sessions, group discussions, and visual campaigns, pre- and post-tests were conducted to evaluate the impact. The results showed significant improvement in knowledge (average score increased from 58.2 to 78.7) and positive attitudes (from 33% to 83%). This program proved effective in fostering preventive behaviors and reducing stigma against HIV and TB patients in the workplace. It is hoped that companies can continue these efforts sustainably through supportive policies, screening facilities, and regular counseling.

Abstract

The complexity of the motifs and large number of different patterns make the classification of Toraja carvings challenging. The objective of this study is to develop a Convolutional Neural Network automatic classification model using a comparative analysis of the performance of three ResNet architectures. Data augmentation techniques were used to enrich the diversity of the training samples and improve the robustness of the model. The experimental results showed that ResNet101V2 had the highest validation accuracy, which was greater than 97%, followed by ResNet50V2 with more than 96%, and finally, ResNet152V2 with more than 94.74%. These test results indicate that the ResNet101V2 architecture has a better classification performance for complex motifs, with a good balance between precision and recall. However, the confusion matrix and per-class performance metrics indicated that motifs with high similarity, such as Paqdon-Bolu and Paqtedong, remained challenging. This study demonstrated that deeper CNN architectures and data augmentation techniques are effective in improving the classification accuracy of complex carving patterns. Further research should explore hybrid or advanced augmentation methods to improve the overall robustness and accuracy of the model.

Abstract

Introduction: Daily activities at Port X generate domestic wastewater containing total coliform and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) levels exceeding the environmental quality standards. Elevated concentrations of these parameters pose a risk of waterbody pollution and can lead to gastrointestinal diseases in nearby communities. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effect of calcium hypochlorite (kaporit) treatment on the reduction of total coliform and TSS in domestic wastewater at Port X, Batam City, in 2024. Method: A true experimental research method was employed, using a pretest-posttest control group design. Samples were treated with varying doses of calcium hypochlorite, followed by laboratory analysis to measure changes in coliform and TSS concentrations. Primary data were analyzed using paired t-tests with a significance level of p < 0.05. Result and Discussion: The results indicate that calcium hypochlorite treatment significantly reduces both total coliform counts and TSS levels. The most effective treatment was achieved with a dosage of 2 g/L of calcium hypochlorite combined with 4 hours of aeration, resulting in reduction efficiencies of 82.71% for total coliform and 85.16% for TSS. Conclusion: It can be concluded that calcium hypochlorite is effective in reducing pollutant loads in domestic wastewater, demonstrating its potential as an efficient and affordable solution for wastewater treatment in port areas.

Abstract

Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks remain a prominent threat to modern network infrastructures, particularly in Software Defined Networks (SDNs), which operate under a centralized control architecture. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of Gradient Boosting and Decision Tree algorithms for identifying DDoS attacks in SDN environments. To improve model performance, we applied preprocessing and feature selection to a publicly available SDN-based DDoS dataset. The feature selection process successfully reduced the number of attributes from 23 to the 10 most influential features for classification. The models were trained and evaluated using multiple data splitting ratios: 60:40, 70:30, 80:20, and 90:10. Their performance was measured through accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and confusion matrix analysis. Experimental results showed that Gradient Boosting achieved the highest accuracy of 95.53% on a 90:10 split, with relatively low computation time. In comparison, the Decision Tree achieved a maximum accuracy of 94.26% but required more processing time. The confusion matrix for the best-performing model showed high true-positive and true-negative rates, with a low false-negative rate, indicating reliable detection capabilities. This study contributes to the ongoing research in DDoS detection by highlighting the effectiveness of machine learning algorithms in SDN environments.

Abstract

Oxytocin massage is a non-pharmacological intervention proven effective in increasing breast milk production in postpartum mothers. This technique involves gentle massage along the spine to stimulate the release of oxytocin, a hormone involved in the let-down reflex and milk ejection. A review of multiple studies shows that oxytocin massage significantly enhances both the volume of breast milk and breastfeeding frequency. The intervention also provides relaxation benefits, reducing stress in breastfeeding mothers. Therefore, oxytocin massage is recommended as part of maternal nursing practices to support the success of exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Background: Biosafety is crucial for protecting laboratory staff from infectious agents and hazardous biological materials. Inadequate knowledge of unsafe practices may increase the risk of laboratory-acquired infections and accidents. This study assessed the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of biosafety and related factors among laboratory staff. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 150 laboratory staff recruited through stratified and random sampling. Data were collected using a validated, self-administered questionnaire that assessed knowledge, attitude, and practice related to biosafety. Descriptive analysis, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression were performed to examine differences and associations. Results: The findings revealed that laboratory staff demonstrated moderate knowledge (74.8%), good attitudes (95.5%), and good practices (93.7%) towards biosafety. Significant differences in knowledge [F (2,147) = 23.7, p < 0.001] and practice [F(2,147) = 21.36, p < 0.001] were observed across schools. A moderate positive correlation was found between practice and knowledge (r = 0.518, p < 0.01) and between practice and attitude (r = 0.342, p < 0.01). Higher education was associated with better knowledge and attitudes, while longer years of employment were negatively associated with knowledge. No demographic factors significantly predicted practice. Conclusions: Laboratory staff demonstrated positive attitudes and good practices but showed only moderate knowledge of biosafety. Regular training, continuous education, and standardised biosafety programs are crucial for enhancing knowledge and maintaining safe laboratory practices. This study provides essential evidence to strengthen biosafety training and policies in Malaysian universities, supporting safer laboratory environments and improved institutional preparedness.
