Abstract

Creativity is widely recognized as one of the essential skills in the 21st century. However, Indonesian students are not considered to possess this characteristic as they belong in rank 115 out of 139 countries on Global Creativity Index in 2015. This leads to the question of whether these students are fostered to think creatively, especially since Indonesian teachers are regarded to hold higher demands and workloads that might limit the attempt for encouraging creativity. This study explores this phenomenon by observing the factors enabling creativity fostering teacher behavior (CFTB). The intellectual humility possessed by the teachers is hypothesized to be predictive for the CFTB through the mediation of teacher subjective well-being. Three instruments were applied in this study: Creativity Fostering Teacher Behavior Index by Soh (2000), Intellectual Humility Scale by Porter Schumann (2018), and Teacher Subjective Wellbeing Questionnaire by Renshaw, Long Cook (2015). Data of 534 teachers from 8 provinces in Indonesia (29.2% males, 70.8 females; M-age = 39.18, SD = 10.25) showed that intellectual humility predicted the CFTB while the teacher subjective well-being served as a partial mediator.

Abstract

Career adaptability is defined as individual’s ability to make self and environmental assessments in order to deal with changes that occur to themselves and the environment — both planned and unplanned. Being sure about the ability to perform tasks related career decision making is one factor that holds an important role on career adaptability. This sense of confidence is often called as career decision self-efficacy. The aim of this research was to identify which source of self-efficacy that plays a significant role to form career adaptability with career decision self-efficacy as a mediator. The study involved Year 12 grade students of senior high school, consisting of 47 male and 205 female. Career Adapt-Abilities Scale (CAAS), Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy–Short Form (CDSE-SF), and Career Exploration and Decision Learning Experiences (CEDLE) Scale were used to collect the data. The results show that career decision self-efficacy (CSDE) mediated the relationship between each source of self efficacy to career adaptability. Four of five sources of self-efficacy provide influence through two ways, i.e. direct influence on career adaptability and through the mediating role of CDSE. Meanwhile, other people's successful experience has an influence on career adaptability only through CDSE mediation. Therefore, enhancing one or more source of self-efficacy will help adolescence develop a good career adaptability.

Abstract

Abstract

Dyslexia is the most common specific learning disorder. Around 5% - 15% of elementary school students have dyslexia (APA,2013). Children with dyslexia might appear different at school and tend to get lower academic scores in comparison with theirpeers. Hence, this may increase the possibility for the children with dyslexia to have low self-esteem (Mash & Wolfe, 2016)because their peers’ opinions about them play an important role in affecting their self-esteem (Veenstra et al., 2007, dalamTaylor, Hume, & Welsh, 2010). The aim of this study is to give a representation about the effect of dyslexia to the self-esteemof elementary school students with the expectance to increase the awareness to detect and give early intervention to dyslexicchildren. The research method is literature review using articles obtained online from several databases. There were 5 selectedresearch articles with the criteria of the participants in the study aged between 6 – 12 years old, and the used the instrumentsto measure specific learning disorder and also self-esteem. The result of this literature review shows that dyslexia can affectthe self-esteem of elementary school students.
