Abstract

Libraries are important institutions that provide access to various sources of information and knowledge, including books, magazines, journals, newspapers, ancient collections, and digital materials such as e-books, e-journals, and databases. The role of libraries is crucial in meeting the intellectual and educational needs of the community. The main purpose of the library is to provide open access and information services to the community, both for educational, research, and recreational purposes. Over time, libraries have developed into institutions that underlie the development of culture and science, including in maintaining ancient collections. The preservation of ancient collections requires serious attention related to factors of age, materials, environmental conditions, and humidity. This study aims to explore strategies, processes, and obstacles in maintaining ancient collections at the Sintong Bingei Library. Through a qualitative approach with case studies, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis to understand maintenance practices, challenges faced, and recommendations for future policy improvements. The results of the study lead to an understanding of efforts to maintain ancient cultural heritage in the library environment so that it can be seen by future generations and its authenticity is maintained

Abstract

The library as a source of information services includes activities of processing, collecting, presenting, disseminating and preserving information. The library is one of the efforts to maintain and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the teaching and learning process. Establishing a library in a mosque is the right step to achieve this goal by creating a center of knowledge that can improve the congregation's understanding of the importance of harmony in community life. The library at the Dirgantara Mosque has an important role in facilitating harmony among religious communities. This facility not only functions as a place to increase knowledge and interest in reading, but also as an effort to increase the level of community literacy. With effective management, this library can be a resource that motivates the community to use it, which in turn will contribute to increasing intellectuality and social development. This study uses descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the existence of a library at the Dirgantara Mosque plays a role in providing religious literature and also general literature for mosque visitors. The provision of various literature is intended to increase the insight of Muslims from various reference sources. In addition, the existence of a library in the mosque area allows mosque visitors to have other activities while waiting for prayer times. The library at the Dirgantara Mosque also has 6 shelves of religious literature such as Islamic Fiqh, Creed and Morals, Practices and Prayers.

Abstract

This research aims to measure the service quality of the North Sumatra Islamic State University Library UPT website by comparing the level of performance and level of interest (expectations) of users. The research method uses the webqual 4.0 method with three main variables: Usability, Information Quality, and Service Interaction Quality. The research sample involved 98 respondents with data collection using a questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistical analysis and simple linear regression, with the help of SPSS Version 23 software. Hypothesis test results show that there is a positive and significant influence between performance variables and website importance, with tcount > ttable (4.998 > 0.16608) and level significance 0.000 (below 0.05). Therefore, the conclusion drawn is that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, indicating that there is a positive and significant influence between variables X and Y.

Abstract

This study discusses the usability of the Special Library Website for the Central Badan Pusat Statistik Provinsi Sumatera Utara (Bureau of Statistics of North Sumatra Province) using the System Usability Scale. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the website, how efficient the website is and aims to find out how satisfied users are in using the website of the Special Library of the Central Bureau of Statistics of North Sumatra Province. The type of research used in this study is a quantitative descriptive method, to analyze Effectiveness, Efficiency and Satisfaction, namely by using the System Usability Scale and collecting data by distributing questionnaires to users of the website of the Special Library of the Central Bureau of Statistics of North Sumatra Province. The results of this study indicate that the use of the website for the Special Library for the Central Bureau of Statistics of North Sumatra Province is based on the dimensions of the effectiveness of the website, it is easy to use and there are also no obstacles in using the website and it is quite confident when accessing it. Meanwhile, in the efficiency dimension, there are still those who think that this website is still inconsistent and there is still data that cannot be accessed. Whereas the dimensions of user satisfaction indicate that the user is satisfied, the user also does not need to get used to the website and the features provided are running properly making visitors more active in using the website. This research implies that library institutions must continuously develop websites, to manage websites by providing features that work properly, provide relevant and up to date information because it can improve website usability and also library services for the better.

Abstract

This research aims to (1) evaluate the efforts made by the North Sumatra Regional Police Hinai State Police School Library in the information literacy program, (2) assess the results achieved by students from the information literacy program, and (3) identify inhibiting factors in the implementation of the information literacy program in the library of the North Sumatra Police Hinai State Police School. The research method used was qualitative with a descriptive approach, using interview techniques, and research subjects were selected through purposive sampling. The results of the research show that the information literacy program in the North Sumatra Regional Police Hinai State Police School library has produced various activity programs, such as a 15 minute reading program every two weeks and reading awards. SPN Hinai North Sumatra Regional Police students are able to understand and utilize information from the library for DIKTUBA (Non-Commissioned Officer Education) POLRI assignments. Obstacles in implementing the program include a lack of media and human resources skilled in information literacy as well as a lack of adequate facilities and infrastructure.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas tentang strategi perpustakaan dalam mengoptimalkna inovasi “RASKITA” di dinas perpustakaan dan arsip Kabupaten Karo. Adapun tujuan yang ingin dicapai dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana strategi perpustakaan dalam mengoptimalkan inovasi “RASKITA” di dinas perpustakaan dan arsip Kabupaten Karo. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Dengan menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data yaitu melalui observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Informana pada penelitian ini yaitu pustakawan yang ada di dinas perpustakaan dan arsip Kabupaten Karo. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi perpustakaan dalam mengoptimalkan inovasi “RASKITA” di dinas perpustakaan dan arsip Kabupaten Karo yaitu dalam bentuk membuat gerakan open donasi buku se Kabupaten Karo oleh Bupati. Bupati memiliki wewenang yang besar untuk mengajak masyarakat untuk melakukan donasi buku di dinas perpustakaan dan arsip Kabupaten Karo. Dalam mempromosikan inovasi “RASKITA” perpustakaan menggunakan promosi melalui media sosial seperti website dinas perpustakan dan arsip Kabupaten Karo, melakukan sosialisasi dengan memanfaatkan rapat dinas dan juga memberikana reward kepada donatur berupa sertifikat yang ditanda tangani oleh Bupati sebagai tanda terimakasih. Strategi perpustakaan dalam mengoptimalkan inovasi “RASKITA” bertujuan untuk menambah koleksi bahan pustaka di dinas perpustakaan dan arsip Kabupaten Karo .Kata Kunci: Strategi perpustakaan, Inovasi

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui strategi pengembangan koleksi muatan lokal di Dinas Perpustakaan dan Kearsipan Kabupaten Labuhanbatu dan kendala-kendala dalam pengembangan koleksi muatan lokal. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data penelitian ini melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan reduksi data, penyajiandata dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi pengembangan koleksi konten lokal menggunakan strategi pengelolaan koleksi konten lokal dan visi misi pengembangan strategi pengumpulan konten lokal. Dalam pengembangan koleksi muatan lokal sangat penting dan mempunyai tujuan untuk mengembangkan koleksi muatan lokal pada Dinas Perpustakaan dan Kearsipan Kabupaten Labuhanbatu. Kendala yang dihadapi dalam pengembangan koleksi konten lokal adalah anggaran/dana, sumber daya alam (SDM), pengguna.

Abstract

Background: Higher education institutions necessitate dependable archival information systems to maintain static archives, safeguard institutional memory, and enhance access to archival information. Universitas Sumatera Utara employs the National Archival Information System (SIKN) to enhance the management of static archives. Concurrently, the National Archival Information Network (JIKN) serves as a public access network for archival information that is processed via SIKN.Purpose: This study seeks to investigate the application of SIKN in the management of static archives at the Archives Office of Universitas Sumatera Utara and to elucidate its connection with JIKN as a platform for public access.Methods: This research utilized a qualitative case study approach. Informants were chosen using purposive sampling, comprising two staff members who are directly engaged in the management of static archives via SIKN and JIKN. Data were gathered using comprehensive interviews, direct observation, and thorough documentation. Data analysis encompassed the processes of data reduction, data presentation, and the formulation of conclusions. The validity of the data was assessed through the triangulation of sources, methods, and documents.Results: The findings indicate that static archive management via SIKN involves multiple stages, which encompass archive submission, verification, classification, media conversion, watermarking, metadata entry, digital object upload, backup, and public access through JIKN. SIKN facilitates the management of internal archives, focusing on archival description, metadata entry, and the administration of digital objects. In contrast, JIKN offers public access to a curated selection of archival information. The implementation encounters multiple constraints, such as restricted human resources, prolonged processing times, issues with network reliability, reliance on ANRI for technical system management, insufficient backup infrastructure, and gaps in metadata components.Conclusions: SIKN facilitates a structured approach to static archive management at Universitas Sumatera Utara, whereas JIKN enhances public accessibility to archival information that is processed via SIKN.

Abstract

This research was conducted at the Library and Archives Office of Labuhan Batu Regency. The purpose of this study was to find out about the Interpersonal Communication of Librarians in the Digital Reading Corner at the Library and Archives Service of the Labuhan Batu Regency Government. The research method used is a qualitative method, this research intends to reveal the phenomena that exist in the field, namely: How is the interpersonal communication of libraries to users in the digital reading corner. Next, the researchers conducted interviews with 2 librarians at the Labuhan Batu Regency Library and Archives Service. The results of the study indicate that the library is the human resource in the library which is used as a benchmark for the progress of a library or digital reading corner. A librarian is a person who provides and carries out activities in a library or digital reading corner in an effort to provide a service to users in accordance with the vision and mission of the parent institution Constraints that often occur in digital reading corners are the lack of human resources, the lack of facilities provided, the lack of interest in reading by the public. It can be concluded that the constraint of the digital reading corner with circumstances that can hinder the ease and development of the digital reading corner.

Abstract

Research entitled "Evaluation of Collection Utilization Level at the Library of the Majelis Ulama Indonesia in North Sumatra." The main issue addressed in this thesis is the level of collection utilization at the Library of the Majelis Ulama Indonesia in North Sumatra. This study aims to evaluate the level of collection utilization at the library. The research method used is quantitative with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques include surveys and documentation. Data processing uses descriptive quantitative analysis using frequency and percentage. The collected data are tested for validity and reliability using IBM SPSS v23 software. The results and discussion of this study show that the average perception score of library users is 81.85%, indicating a positive perception of collection utilization. However, efforts are needed from the library to improve or expand its collection, so that collection utilization can increase and gain better perception in the future.
