Abstract

Abstract

Oil palm (Elaeis guineesis Jacq.) is an annual plant that plays an important role and oil palm is Indonesia's leading and main agricultural commodity or is often referred to as Indonesia's green jewel. Indonesia is the largest producer and exporter of CPO in the world to meet domestic and foreign needs, followed by Malaysia, Thailand, Nigeria, Colombia and Papua New Guinea. Even though Indonesia has indeed succeeded in becoming the largest CPO producer in the world, the reality shows that Indonesia has not been able to determine theselling price of CPO for the world market. It is not only the issue of market integration that is still determined by foreign markets. Therefore, private and state-owned palm oil factories usually calculate the cost of production using the processing cost method and analyze what factors influence the cost of production. For this reason, private and state-owned palm oil factories usually calculate the cost of production using the processing cost method  and analyze what factors influence the cost of production. The main objective of this research is to determine the influence of processing capacity, raw material supplies, oil and palm kernel oil yields and exploitation costs on the cost of processing so that it can provide added value for the company. This research uses secondary data and is analyzed using linear regression using SPSS. Based on the research results, it is known that processing capacity has no effect on the cost of processing and this is not in accordance with the hypothesis. Raw material supplies and yield achievements have a negative and significant effect on the cost of processing goods and are in accordance with the hypothesis. Exploitation costs have a positive and significant effect on the cost of processing and are in accordance with the hypothesis. Therefore, management must increase raw material supplies and production yields and reduce exploitation costs to reduce the cost of processing goods.

Abstract

Modern management of smallholder oil palm plantations is very much needed to enable smallholder oil palm plantations to follow the progress of management of large oil palm plantations, both state-owned and privately owned. This study aims to determine how production factors influence production and to determine the technical efficiency of smallholder oil palm plantations. The location of the study was determined purposively based on the consideration of the existence of smallholder oil palm plantations in the area. The sample was determined by quota sampling of 150 samples from two villages, namely Buntu Bayu Village and Buntu Turunan Village, each with 75 samples. The analysis involves applying the Multiple Non-Linear Regression Test (Rank Test) alongside Data Envelopment Analysis, focusing on managing smallholder oil palm plantations throughout 2023. The study results show that, partially, the production of smallholder oil palm plantations is significantly positively influenced by each production factor. Conversely, the output of smallholder oil palm plantations is notably affected by various production factors, including land, labor, fertilizer, and pesticides. Most (78.00%) smallholder oil palm plantations are technically inefficient, with an average technical efficiency value of 0.9755. To achieve a technically efficient production process, smallholder plantation farmers must reduce inputs, namely 2.5416% of the land, 4.0501% of labor, 5.5449% of fertilizer, and 3.1165% of pesticides.

Abstract

This study aims to (1) identify the marketing channel of curly red chili in Se Bingai District, Langkat Regency, and (2) analyze its marketing efficiency based on the market structure approach, market conduct, and market performance or SCP approach in the region. The research was conducted in Se Bingai District, Langkat Regency, from September to October 2024. Data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods with the SCP approach (structure, conduct, and performance). The results showed that there were four marketing channels in Sei Bingai District, Langkat Regency. Market concentration is 74%, which indicates market dominance by several large actors. In addition, the Minimum Efficient Scale (MES) value in red chili marketing in Sei Bingai District was recorded at 26%, indicating inefficiency in the scale of production and distribution. The study also found that farmer's share in the red chili marketing channel varied, with values of 59%, 61%, 64%, and 77% reflecting the imbalance of profits received by farmers along the marketing chain, resulting in low profit margins. This condition indicates distribution inefficiencies that need to be corrected. The market performance shows an uneven distribution of margins, farmers share, and profit and cost ratios in each marketing institution. Based on the analysis, marketing channel four was identified as the most efficient option and worthy of consideration by farmers. To improve farmers' welfare, the government can implement strategic measures to address various issues, such as price fluctuations, market dominance by certain parties, and uneven distribution. These include more intensive price monitoring, stabilizing the supply and price of red chili, empowering farmers through strengthening cooperatives and access to market information, and improving transportation infrastructure to reduce the cost of red chili distribution.

Abstract

Food is a crucial sector in meeting the food needs of society. Food is the forerunner of the economic growth sector, with the main driver being farmers. Farmers are no longer young, but in this case the agricultural sector is no longer a concern for the younger generation to work in the agricultural sector. With the decline in the number of people working in the agricultural sector, the younger generation is starting to move away from agriculture. The desire of the younger generation to work in the agricultural sector has diminished, they tend to choose jobs in the non-agricultural sector. The purpose of this study is to determine the attitude, environment, land area on the motivation of the younger generation through the interest of food sector farmers in Deli Serdang Regency. This research method uses a quantitative approach reinforced with descriptive qualitative data using questionnaires with structural equation modelling data analysis with a sample size of 65 farmers. The results showed that the mindset, environment on the motivation of the younger generation through the interest of farmers produced a significant positive effect. While the land area on the motivation of the younger generation and interest produces a positive but insignificant effect. The R-squared results were Y-motivation 84.0% and Z-interest 78.2%.
