Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of leadership in transforming local cultural values through community-based Islamic education in an indigenous community in Indonesia. The research method is a qualitative approach using ethnographic techniques, including participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The analysis was conducted using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of the study indicate that customary and religious leadership play a key role in maintaining local cultural values , such as cooperation and deliberation, in line with Islamic teachings. This leadership not only functions as a director in social life but also as a facilitator in the process of internalizing cultural values in society, ensuring that traditions remain alive without sacrificing religious principles. In addition, customary and religious leaders work together to guide the community so that these values are relevant to the modern social and religious context. The implications of this study indicate the importance of community-based Islamic education as an effective means to maintain and transform local culture, as well as the need to strengthen the leadership capacity within indigenous communities to manage cultural change. These findings contribute to the development of community-based Islamic education theory and the relevance of local cultural values in the era of globalization.

Abstract

Abstract

This research explores the transformation of local cultural values through Islamic education within the indigenous community of Kasepuhan Gelar Alam, Sukabumi Regency, West Java. Amidst globalization and modernization, local wisdom traditions such as gotong royong (mutual cooperation), musyawarah (deliberation), and sopan santun (courtesy) face erosion. Nevertheless, this community has successfully preserved these values by integrating them harmoniously with Islamic teachings for more than seven centuries. Employing an ethnographic qualitative approach, this study gathered data through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving traditional leaders, religious figures, and local residents. The analysis was conducted inductively, exploring meanings, processes, and sociocultural interactions in daily life. The results show that the transformation of local cultural values occurs through the integration of Islamic teachings into communal practices and informal education. Traditional and religious leaders act as the main agents in transmitting and contextualizing these values. Supporting factors include the congruence between Islamic and customary values and community awareness, while challenges arise from generational gaps, limited formal education, and conservative resistance. The impact is the emergence of a distinctive form of local Islamic identity, religious behavior rooted in cultural ethics, and youth participation in sustaining ancestral traditions. This study highlights the strategic role of Islamic education in cultural preservation and moral formation in indigenous communities

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of counselling guidance to strengthen religious moderation and gender equality through digital counselling guidance in modern Islamic boarding schools in West Java. Using a qualitative-interpretive approach, this study involved Islamic boarding schools in seven districts/cities, focusing on female students aged 15-25. The results of the survey reveal the development of a digital counselling guidance framework that integrates Islamic moderation values and counter-narrative strategies for gender-based cyber violence. This framework includes four dimensions: digital connection skills, content access, contextual understanding, and interaction in digital space, referring to UNESCO and Kemenkominfo standards. The implementation of digital counselling guidance is carried out through the stages of instilling, coaching, mentoring, and competency development, and it is applied at the individual, interpersonal, and institutional levels. This process follows the connect-content-context-contact cycle, emphasizing the importance of building constructive and inclusive media literacy awareness. This study significantly empowers Islamic boarding school communities to face digital challenges, promoting moderate Islam and gender equality in the digital era.

Abstract

This study analyses the challenges and opportunities of research and community service policy at the Institutes for Research and Community Service (LP2M) of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung and UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. Specifically, it aims to identify the configuration of structural and cultural issues that affect policy implementation, and to map strategic opportunities for strengthening the governance of research and community service in these two State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN). The study employs a qualitative approach with a comparative case study design, drawing on in-depth interviews with LP2M stakeholders (chairs, heads of centres, and academic staff), as well as an intensive analysis of national regulatory documents, university statutes, strategic plans, research and community service roadmaps, guidelines and SOPs, and institutional performance and ranking data. Data were analysed thematically to identify policy patterns, constraints, and strategies for reinforcement. The findings show that research and community service policies at both universities have been designed within a relatively comprehensive and integrated framework, with LP2M positioned as a strategic hub for the governance of the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi. However, effectiveness remains constrained by limited funding, disparities in human resource capacity, high academic workloads, administrative bureaucracy, weak global networks, and an academic culture that is not yet fully adaptive. At the same time, the status of both UINs as national reference institutions, regulatory support, the ongoing transformation of PTKIN, digitalisation, and local strengths and strategic networks offer significant opportunities for policy reform and for strengthening research and community service governance in a more effective, inclusive, and socially transformative direction.

Abstract

Digital platforms have structurally reconfigured the conditions under which Islamic parties produce and contest political legitimacy in electoral democracies. This article examines how platformization transformed the campaign discourse of two major Indonesian Islamic parties, PKS and PKB, across the 2014, 2019, and 2024 general elections. Using Facebook posts from the official accounts of PKS, PKB, and Kompas as an issue-control corpus, the study applies a qualitative, comparative, diachronic framework that integrates platformization theory, the hybrid media system perspective, Entman’s framing analysis, Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis, and van Leeuwen’s legitimation theory. The findings demonstrate that Islamic party discourse became progressively platform-oriented across three electoral cycles, characterized by increasing hashtag adoption, modular slogans, and explicit calls to action. More significantly, the dominant legitimating resources shifted from organizational mobilization and procedural credibility in 2014, to religious endorsement and communal symbolism in 2019, to welfare claims and democratic ethics in 2024. These findings indicate that platformized Islamic politics in Indonesia constitutes selective rearticulation rather than de-Islamization, as the moral vocabulary of Islam is continuously reformulated into forms more compatible with platform legibility and mass electoral resonance.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms and factors causing Arabic phonological errors in the Korean drama series Genie, Make a Wish. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with an analytical method using the distributional method and the immediate constituent technique. The data consist of Arabic dialogue utterances obtained from the Netflix platform. The results reveal phonological error categorized into four forms: consonant phoneme changes, vowel phoneme changes, phoneme omission, and phoneme addition. Consonant phoneme changes are the most dominant form of error, with the most frequent being the change of the phoneme /ق/ to /ك/ and the vowel phoneme /o/ to /a/. The main factor causing these errors is the interference of the Korean phonological system (L1) with Arabic (L2), particularly due to the absence of uvular, pharyngeal, and emphatic sounds in Korean. In addition, the limited learning process of Arabic in the context of filming production contributes to the actors’ insufficient phonological mastery when pronouncing Arabic dialogue.
