Abstract

Introduction: Consuming a minimum of 400 g of fruits and vegetables (FV) daily fulfills nutritional needs and diminishes the possibility of getting specific non-communicable diseases. In low or middle-income countries, about 80% of people consume fruits and vegetables below the WHO's recommendations, including Indonesia, where 93.6% of the population does so. In Indonesia, the annual per capita consumption of FV is only 35 kg; however, in Maluku, it is far lower at 7.78 kg per capita annually, below the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)’s objective of 75 kg per year. Aims: This study aims to identify the determinants that impact family behavior regarding FV consumption. Methods: This study took a cross-sectional approach. The purposive sampling chose a total of 398 families. The study employed a questionnaire that has passed validity and reliability tests, with Cronbach alpha >0.8. Results: The findings revealed that 192 (48%) respondents had enough knowledge, 253 (63.2%) had good access to fruits and vegetables, and 198 (49.5%) demonstrated good behavior. Furthermore, the chi-square test revealed that knowledge and family consumption of fruits and vegetables are correlated (p-value 0.001) as well as between FV availability and family consumption behavior (p-value 0.036). Conclusions: The study's findings serve as a road map for local governments, health institutions, and related parties seeking to ensure the availability of fruits and vegetables to meet the community's consumption demands. It also focuses on family-centered education to enhance FV consumption behavior.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Hypertension is a silent killer that can result in stroke, kidney failure, heart failure, chronic disability, and death. An unhealthy lifestyle becomes a significant risk factor for hypertension. Lifestyle modifications such as salt limitation, stop smoking, decreased alcohol intake, stress management, and weight control are crucial in controlling hypertension. The Study aims to determine the lifestyle of hypertensive patients in managing hypertension and the factors related to it. A cross-sectional study was conducted. Purposive sampling yielded a sample of 30 persons. Patients having a history of hypertension, using hypertension medication, and aged 30-45 years were eligible. An online questionnaire that had passed validity and reliability tests was used to collect data. Univariate and bivariate analyses are used. The study findings revealed that 43.3% of respondents have a bad lifestyle and 56.7% have a healthy lifestyle when it comes to regulating hypertension. The majority of respondents were fe2male (63.3%), worked (96.7%), married (83.3%), had a moderate education (70%), less than 43 years old (60%), had normal body weight (60%), had hypertension for less than 5 years (90%), and had uncontrolled blood pressure (66.7%). Furthermore, education level and body weight were found to be associated with lifestyle in controlling hypertension, although gender, age, working status, marital status, duration of hypertension, and blood pressure were not. Lifestyle modifications can be emphasized in hypertension control programs by raising hypertensive patients' awareness.  Keywords: Lifestyle, Hypertension, Risk Factors

Abstract

Nutritional status serves as an important indicator of health development in infants and young children. Insufficient growth in height and weight during the toddler stage can lead to nutritional issues that negatively impact health and may cause delays in cognitive development. This study aimed to examine the relationship between family functioning and the growth of toddlers with stunting in Kadu Village, Tangerang. A correlational design with a cross-sectional approach was applied, involving 64 families with stunted children under five years old. Data were collected using the Family Assessment Device (FAD), which measures seven dimensions of family functioning: problem-solving, communication, roles, affective responsiveness, affective involvement, behavior control, and general functioning. The height and weight of toddlers were validated through health records and direct measurement. Statistical analysis revealed that the role factor had a significant negative correlation with both child height (p = 0.001; r = -0.395) and weight (p = 0.002; r = -0.379), while problem-solving showed a positive correlation with height (p = 0.03; r = 0.271). These findings indicate that parental roles and involvement in daily care strongly influence toddler growth. Roles and problem-solving are part of the family function. Strengthening family roles and problem-solving skills is essential to improving nutritional outcomes and preventing stunting.
