Abstract

Banda Sea is one of most important fishing grounds for Euthynnus affinis in Indonesia; however, information on its potential habitat distribution and response to climate change remains limited. This study aimed to analyze current potential habitat distribution of E. affinis based on oceanographic conditions and to project future habitat suitability under climate change scenarios for the 2030–2040 period. Habitat suitability was modeled using ‘Maximum Entropy’ (MaxEnt) approach with fish occurrence data collected from 2017 to 2022 and environmental variables including sea surface temperature, chlorophyll-a, sea surface salinity, current velocity, and bathymetry. The model demonstrated good predictive performance, with an Area Under the Curve (AUC) value of 0.794. Sea surface salinity and sea surface temperature were identified as the primary environmental factors influencing the distribution of E. affinis. Optimal habitat conditions were associated with salinity of 33–34 PSU, sea surface temperatures of 30–31 °C, and current velocities of 0.05–0.20 m s⁻¹. Under present environmental conditions, suitable habitats were primarily concentrated in the western, northwestern, and southwestern parts of the Banda Sea. Future projections indicated that the Banda Sea is likely to remain a suitable habitat for E. affinis under all climate change scenarios, although shifts in habitat quality and spatial distribution are expected. Among the projected scenarios, SSP2-4.5 maintained relatively favorable habitat conditions, whereas SSP4-6.0 showed the greatest decline in habitat suitability. These findings provide valuable scientific information to support climate-adaptive fisheries management through the identification of potential future habitats for E. affinis. Key words: Banda Sea, climate change, Euthynnus affinis, habitat suitability, ‘Maximum Entropy’

Abstract

Sedangkan pendapatan bersih tambak tradisional sebesar Rp28.290.000/ha/tahun.

Abstract

Global warming is a phenomenon of increasing the average temperature of the earth's surface. Carbon can be stored in various forms in ecosystems, one of which is the concept of blue carbon. This research aims to analyze the condition of the mangrove ecosystem and the potential for carbon storage in the mangrove forest rehabilitation area in Sebele Village, Karimun Regency, Riau Islands. This research was conducted from October 2024 to July 2025 in the mangrove forest rehabilitation area of Sebele Village, Riau Islands Province. The method used in this research is the survey method. Standing biomass data was obtained using allometric equations. The research results show that the level of tree density in the mangrove forest rehabilitation area of Sebele Village is in the Sparse category. At the tree level, it is dominated by the Xylocarpus granatum species, while at the sapling level it is dominated by the Rhizophora mucronataspecies. The highest carbon storage value is found in the Avicennia marina species with a carbon storage value of 14.44 tons/ha. And the potential carbon storage from the calculation results obtained a carbon storage value of 61.43 tons/ha. The carbon storage value is directly proportional to the standing biomass. The greater the standing biomass, the greater the carbon stored.

Abstract

The high pressure on turtle populations due to habitat degradation, exploitation, and low public awareness makes turtle conservation an important issue in coastal area management. Kelapa Dua Island in the Thousand Islands National Park is one of the turtle conservation areas that also has the potential to be developed as a sustainable ecotourism destination. This study aims to analyze the suitability of beach tourism and formulate a sustainability strategy for ecotourism based on turtle conservation. The method used is a survey with quantitative descriptive approaches. Data collection was carried out through field observations, interviews, questionnaires, and measurement of environmental parameters, which were analyzed using the SWOT Matrix and the Grand Strategy Matrix. The results showed that tourist land was classified as "suitable" with an average score of 68%. The conservation strategy shows high effectiveness with a success rate of 71.98% of turtle egg hatching in the last six years. The results of the analysis showed that the community and conservation officers were in Quadrant I (S–O strategy), while tourists were in Quadrant III (W–T strategy). Therefore, ecotourism management strategies need to be focused on optimizing regional strengths and opportunities as well as strengthening community institutions in facing conservation challenges.

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems play an important role in maintaining coastal biological balance, protecting land from erosion, providing habitats for various biota, and functioning as effective carbon sinks. Indonesia has the largest mangrove area in the world, covering approximately 3.3 million hectares, but this ecosystem continues to experience degradation due to land conversion, with a rate of destruction reaching 530,000 hectares per year. This degradation reduces the ecological and economic functions of mangroves, necessitating vegetation structure analysis to assess the condition of the ecosystem. This study aims to analyze the vegetation structure of mangroves in Pengarengan Village, Pangenan District, Cirebon Regency, which is one of the oldest mangrove areas in Cirebon. Data collection was carried out at three stations using the Transect Line Plot method with plot sizes of 10×10 m² for trees, 5×5 m² for stakes, and 1×1 m² for seedlings. The parameters observed included density, frequency, and dominance, which were then used to calculate the Importance Value Index (IVI). The results showed that the mangrove vegetation at the study site was dominated by the species Rhizophora mucronata and Avicennia marina. The density of tree-level vegetation was classified as moderate to dense, with the highest density found at Station II (2,433 ind/ha) and the lowest density found at Station I (1,200 ind/ha). The INP value reached 300% for each species at all stations at the tree and stump levels, indicating the dominance of one species at each station
