Abstract

Purpose: The background of this service is the discovery that creativity and literacy in YouTube social media are currently still low. The purpose of implementing this service is to improve students' creativity and literacy by deepening their understanding of the content on YouTube social media and as a means of channeling ideas, talents, and interests of students at SMP 1 Cibatu.Methodology/approach: The method used in implementing this activity is a seminar on developing creativity and social media literacy on June 14 2024 with counseling and mentoring.Results/findings: The results of this community service activity increased by 61.29% from 25.81% to 87.10% of students knowing the creativity and literacy of social media, especially on YouTube. Apart from that, it motivates students to continue working to express ideas in content production concepts, create concepts that students are interested in, and carry out the content creation process itself. Conclusions: In conclusion, this can significantly improve students' creativity.Limitations: The limitations of this service are that it only focuses on developing creativity and YouTube social media literacy, so that students can have innate abilities that focus on how to create content.Contribution: The results of this community service contribute especially to students who already have basic skills in how to create video content, this can provide new insights and knowledge to increase their creativity.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this PkM activity was to enhance the understanding and skills in journalistic writing among students at SMK Negeri 2 Garut through news writing training. Through this training, students were expected to gain practical experience and develop a stronger grasp of journalistic principles. Additionally, the activity aimed to inspire students to explore potential careers in journalism and related fields. Methodology: The methodology included preparation, core, and final stages. The preparation stage involved surveys, obtaining permissions, and conducting interviews. The core stage consisted of a pre-test, material delivery, discussions, and a post-test. The final stage involved evaluation and presentation of the results. Results: The results showed a significant improvement in the students' understanding and skills in news writing. Post-test scores indicated a substantial increase in comprehension, with most students achieving scores above 75%, reflecting a high level of understanding and application of the journalistic principles taught. Conclusions: This journalism training has succeeded in improving students' understanding and skills in writing news objectively and in a structured manner. Through project-based methods, students not only gain journalism theory, but also practical experience that enriches their insight into the dynamics of the media industry. The success of this activity shows that practice-based learning can effectively build students' competence and readiness in facing the world of work in journalism and communication. Limitations: The study was limited by the short duration of the training and the small sample size of students involved, potentially affecting the depth of skill absorption. Despite these limitations, the study offered valuable insights and set the stage for future research with more extensive training periods and larger participant groups. Contribution: This research is useful in the fields of education and journalism, particularly in enhancing journalistic literacy among vocational high school students.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to form students' awareness and critical thinking towards social issues that develop in society, as well as to foster students' interest in reading and writing, and to improve students' abilities and skills in the field of journalism. Methodology: The method used in this service is: training in the form of presenting material and implementing the journalism knowledge learned. Result: The results of this journalistic literacy assistance are shown by several changes, such as full support from the school, student enthusiasm in participating in the journalistic literacy program which was followed by the number of students increasing from 17 students to 50 students. Conclusions: This study successfully established the Student Press Institute (LPS) at SMA Negeri 2 Kupang, which is a forum for students to hone their journalistic skills, think critically, and increase their interest in reading and writing. The existence of LPS also encourages active participation of students in expressing opinions and building strong social networks in the school environment. The results of the study showed a significant increase in the number of members, school support, and facilities that support student journalistic activities. Limitations: This study was limited to one school, so the findings and impacts may not be fully applicable to other schools with different conditions. In addition, this study has not evaluated in depth the long-term effectiveness of LPS in improving students' literacy and journalistic skills. External factors such as school curriculum and the level of teacher involvement in supporting LPS have also not been thoroughly analyzed. Contribution: This research can be useful for all high schools that plan to establish a journalism extracurricular activity or simply to implement journalistic literacy practices in the school.

Abstract

Latar belakang pengabdian ini adalah adanya kesenjangan tentang pemahamanan siswa mengenai peran serta manfaat ekstrakulikuler jurnalistik, yang tidak sesuai dengan harapan pembina di SMP Negeri 1 Tarogong Kaler. Citizen journalism merupakan aktivitas jurnalistik yang dilakukan dan dipraaksarai oleh masyarakat, serta memiliki potensi yang signifikan dalam meningkatkan literasi media di kalangan remaja. Pengabdian ini mengeksplorasi dampak pendampingan pelaksanaan citizen journalism terhadap peningkatan literasi media siswa di SMP Negeri 1 Tarogong Kaler. Tujuan dilaksanakannya pengabdian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan literasi digital siswa-siswi melalui pemahaman yang komprehensif mengenai citizen journalism, serta meningkatkan kemampuan untuk mengaplikasikan prinsip-prinsip jurnalistik yang bertanggung jawab dalam konteks digital. Program pendampingan yang berlangsung selama 5 hari ini menggunakan pendekatan multi-metode yang terintegrasi. Metode observasi yang dilakukan penulis bertujuan untuk mengamati secara langsung proses pembelajaran dan interaksi siswa selama kegiatan berlangsung, ceramah interaktif, pelatihan, dan pemberian tugas. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat adalah setiap siswa-siswi dapat mengaplikasikan pengetahuan dan keterampilan melalui tiga tugas berupa pembuatan konten edukatif melalui media sosial, membuat buku, dan berita. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dapat dikatakan berhasil dengan meningkatnya 83% yang mengetahui citizen journalism sebagai wadah untuk berpartisipasi aktif dalam mengembangkan keterampilannya menjadi suatu karya. Kegiatan pengabdian ini, membantu siswa-siswi mengembangkan ekstrakurikuler jurnalistik melalui citizen journalism.

Abstract

Background: This research is motivated by the problems faced by exchange students, one of the problems is carrying out the adaptation process of cultural differences, culture, language, adaptation to the environment and communication barriers. Purpose: The aim of the research is to explain the integrative communication model in intercultural communication in the aspects of personal communication, social communication, environment, personal condition tendencies, and intercultural transformation. Methods: The research method used was descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, literature study and documentation. The research subjects were determined by using a purposive sampling technique, consisting of nine informants who were independent student exchange participants from Garut University and two students from Garut Indonesian Institute of Education. Results: The results of the research show that intercultural communication in the aspect of personal communication shows attitudes and behavior of tolerance towards cultural differences, even though from a cognitive perspective they do not know yet about Garut culture. In the experience of social communication, interaction is carried out in formal and informal activities, and there are barriers due to differences in dialect and language. On the environmental side, Garut residents welcomed and accepted it well. Environmental barriers include information confusion and language difficulties. In the aspect of personal conditions, they tend not to prepare themselves by getting to know the culture in Garut, and building closeness in the process referring to personal conditions, as well as aspects of cultural transformation, the psychological conditions of independent student exchange participants. Implications: In intercultural transformation, independent student exchange participants can get used to existing cultural differences and minimize the culture shock that occurs when migrating, namely with a positive mindset. The assimilation experienced should not result in the complete loss of one’s cultural identity.

Abstract

Di era digital saat ini, kemampuan mengolah dan menganalisis data menjadi keterampilan vital yang mendukung pengambilan keputusan di berbagai sektor. Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini dilaksanakan oleh Program Studi Rekayasa Sistem Komputer Universitas Garut dengan tujuan meningkatkan literasi digital dan keterampilan analisis data sederhana menggunakan Microsoft Excel di kalangan siswa SMAN 26 Garut. Kegiatan yang diselenggarakan pada 24 Januari 2025 tersebut mengintegrasikan metode presentasi, demonstrasi langsung, serta latihan praktik interaktif yang difokuskan pada pengenalan fungsi dasar Excel, pembuatan grafik, dan penyusunan laporan data. Partisipasi aktif dalam sesi diskusi serta tanya jawab menjadi indikator keberhasilan transfer pengetahuan dan peningkatan kepercayaan diri peserta dalam mengaplikasikan teknologi informasi. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman konsep dasar pengolahan data serta keterampilan praktis siswa dalam mengorganisir dan menyajikan data secara efektif. Temuan ini menegaskan peran strategis perguruan tinggi dalam memberdayakan masyarakat melalui penerapan teknologi informasi yang aplikatif, serta mendukung kesiapan pelajar menghadapi tuntutan dunia akademik dan kerja di era digital.

Abstract

The sexual violence case involving a lecturer at the University of Mataram has garnered significant public and media attention. The coverage of the lecturer's dismissal not only revealed the facts surrounding the incident but also highlighted the role of the PPKS Task Force in handling the case and the media's role in shaping the narrative. This study explores the role of the PPKS Task Force in the discourse presented by Kompas.id media. Using a qualitative descriptive method and Teun A. Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis theory, data were collected through literature review, interviews, and documentation. The findings show that the textual structure used by Kompas.id effectively constructs a narrative that influences public perception, indicating media bias in favor of the institution (Unram). The role of the PPKS Task Force at the University of Mataram, as reported by Kompas.id, is consistently portrayed as taking firm action against perpetrators. The Task Force is represented as a key institution in the prevention and handling of cases involving victims. Renaming the PPKS Task Force to the PPKPT Task Force marks a new focus on preventing violence within educational environments

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya literasi politik di kalangan Gen Z, sehingga menyebabkan kurangnya minat dan partisipasi pada keikutsertaan dalam politik. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengukur sejauh mana platform media sosial Instagram dapat mempengaruhi literasi politik Gen Z selama proses Pemilihan Kepala Daerah 2024. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kuantitatif dengan kusioner kepada 100 responden Gen Z berusia 17-28 tahun di Kabupaten Garut. Responden pada penelitian ini adalah Gen Z berusia 17-28 tahun yang memiliki hak pilih dalam Pilkada 2024 dan aktif menggunakan Instagram. Teori uses and effect digunakan sebagai kerangka analisis untuk melihat bagaimana pengunaan media sosial Instagram dapat mempengaruhi literasi politik. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa Instagram memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap literasi politik Gen Z dengan korelasi kuat (r = 0,806) dan kontribusi pengaruh sebesar 64,9%. Media sosial Instagram dinilai efektif sebagai sarana peningkatan literasi politik generasi muda.

Abstract

Interpersonal communication is a critical element in building and maintaining the quality of same-gender friendships, particularly among university students. These friendships are often misunderstood, with assumptions that they are linked to sexual orientation. This study examines the role of love language in interpersonal communication through five key dimensions: openness, empathy, supportive behavior, positive attitude, and equality, and how these dimensions influence same-gender friendships. A qualitative approach was used, involving in-depth interviews with four pairs of informants at Garut University, all students aged 18-25 who have been friends for at least two years. Data validity was ensured through source and method triangulation, with input from experts in communication and psychology to enrich the analysis. The results show that the dimensions of openness, empathy, supportiveness, positivity, and equality are fundamental in fostering emotional connections and improving the overall quality of friendships. These dimensions contribute to stronger bonds of trust, empathy, and mutual support, which are essential for maintaining harmonious and meaningful relationships. The study concludes that effective and honest communication, especially empathy and openness, is key to sustaining healthy same-gender friendships. It also encourages further research into the role of communication in diverse social relationships and highlights the importance of continually developing communication skills to nurture and strengthen interpersonal relationships.Komunikasi interpersonal merupakan elemen penting dalam membangun dan mempertahankan kualitas persahabatan sesama jenis, khususnya di kalangan mahasiswa. Persahabatan ini sering kali disalahpahami, dengan anggapan bahwa hal tersebut berkaitan dengan orientasi seksual. Penelitian ini menganalisis peran bahasa cinta dalam komunikasi interpersonal melalui lima dimensi utama: keterbukaan, empati, perilaku mendukung, sikap positif, dan kesetaraan, serta bagaimana dimensi-dimensi ini mempengaruhi persahabatan sesama jenis. Pendekatan kualitatif digunakan, dengan melakukan wawancara mendalam dengan empat pasangan informan di Universitas Garut, yang semuanya merupakan mahasiswa berusia 18-25 tahun yang telah berteman selama minimal dua tahun. Validitas data melalui triangulasi sumber dan metode, dengan masukan dari para ahli komunikasi dan psikologi untuk memperkaya analisis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dimensi keterbukaan, empati, dukungan, sikap positif, dan kesetaraan sangat penting dalam memperkuat hubungan emosional dan meningkatkan kualitas persahabatan. Dimensi-dimensi ini berkontribusi pada ikatan kepercayaan, empati, dan saling mendukung, yang esensial untuk mempertahankan hubungan yang harmonis dan bermakna. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa komunikasi yang jujur dan empatik, terutama keterbukaan dan empati, adalah kunci untuk mempertahankan persahabatan sesama jenis yang sehat. Penelitian ini juga mendorong eksplorasi lebih lanjut mengenai peran komunikasi dalam berbagai konteks hubungan sosial dan menekankan pentingnya pengembangan keterampilan komunikasi yang terus-menerus untuk memperkuat hubungan interpersonal.

Abstract

Abstrak SMK Negeri 1 Garut merupakan lembaga pendidikan vokasi yang memiliki tujuan membekali para siswa keterampilan dan kompetensi yang relevan didunia kerja atau bahkan menjadi wirausahawan yang mempunyai pengetahuan dan skill sehingga dapat membuka lowongan pekerjaan. Seiring dengan perkembangan digital, digital marketing sangat penting untuk menjadi bekal bagi para siswa SMKN 1 Garut untuk dunia kerja, sehingga pelatihan ini akan sangat bermanfaat bagi para siswa SMKN 1 Garut. Latar belakang pengabdian ini didasarkan karena di SMKN 1 Garut belum adanya pembelajaran tentang digital marketing fitur affiliasi sedangka kebutuhan lapangan pekerjaan mengenai digital marketing sangat tinggi, maka dari itu akan sangat bermanfaat diadakanya pelatihan digital marketing. Pelatihan digital marketing bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan dalam kemampuan mengelola marketing dengan digitalisasi sekaligus memperkuat kompetensi terlibat baik itu dalam meningkatkan pemahamannya atau menambah kemampuannya soft skills seperti komunikasi, public speaking, dan digitalisasi. Pelatihan ini melibatkan 25 orang siswa yang menjadi peserta aktif dalam mengikuti teori dan dan praktik yang telah dirancang secara kolaboratif dengan pihak sekolah agar sesuai dengan kebutuhan mereka. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi, program ini tidak hanya memperdalam pemahaman siswa tentang digital marketing fitur affiliasi, tetapi juga memperluas wawasan mereka mengenai peluang karier di bidang digital marketing baik itu menjadi baik itu sebagai Digital Marketing, Sosial Media Spesialis, KOL Spesialis, Konten Kreator dan Live Spesialis. Pelatihan ini berhasil memberikan dampak bagi para siswa yang terlibat baik itu dalam meningkatkan pemahamannya atau menambah kemampuannya Kata kunci: digital marketing; fitur affiliasi; SMKN 1 Garut Abstract SMK Negeri 1 Garut is a vocational education institution that aims to equip students with skills and competencies that are relevant in the world of work or even become entrepreneurs who have the knowledge and skills so that they can open job vacancies. Along with digital developments, digital marketing is very important to be a provision for students of SMKN 1 Garut for the world of work, so this training will be very beneficial for students of SMKN 1 Garut. The background of this research is based on the fact that at SMKN 1 Garut there is no learning about digital marketing affiliate features while the employment needs regarding digital marketing are very high, therefore it would be very useful to hold digital marketing training. Digital marketing training aims to improve skills in the ability to manage marketing with digitalization while strengthening the competencies involved in either increasing their understanding or increasing their abilities. soft skills such as communication, public speaking, and digitalization. The training involved 25 students who became active participants in following the theory and practice that had been designed collaboratively with the school to suit their needs. Based on the evaluation results, the program not only deepened students' understanding of digital marketing affiliate features, but also broadened their horizons regarding career opportunities in the digital marketing field whether it be as a Digital Marketing, Social Media Specialist, KOL Specialist, Content Creator and Live Specialist.
