Abstract

Science literacy has become one of the skills needed to prepare a young generation that is adaptive to the advances of science and technology in the 21st century. According to research by some experts, the literacy of science students in Indonesia is still low. The reason for the poor science literacy of students is that they are not activated continuously in the learning process. Therefore, there is a need for the application of innovative learning models, one of which is the project-based learning (PjBL) model. The PjBL model phase is useful to train students to be responsible for their own learning and develop their ability to think systematically. The gender of students, consisting of men and women, is important to note because it relates to several things, including thinking skills, decision-making, and the ability to draw conclusions. All these abilities are supportive factors of student science literacy, so it is necessary to conduct a study of differential science literacy by differentiating the gender of students. The research was conducted at SMAN 7 Mataram Nusa Tenggara West (NTB) with quasi-experiments. The subject of the study is class X students, consisting of 5 parallel classes, with a total number of 126 people (44 males and 82 females). The free variable in research is the PjBL model, and the bound variable is science literacy. Research instruments for science literacy use essay questions. The results of the study showed that the average science literacy of female students is 55.99; this figure is higher than the male literacy score of 53.03. Furthermore, the Anova test result shows that the significance value at the level of 5% is 0.62 ≥ 0.05, so it can be concluded that there is no significant difference in the literacy value of male and female science students after learning using the PjBL model.

Abstract

Mastery of concepts in a field of science includes a combination of mastery of knowledge of the field of science being studied and dimensions of cognitive processes, including factual, conceptual and procedural knowledge. The importance of students' mastery of concepts related to the field of biology means that teachers must continue to train students to master biological concepts well. In general, social studies students have good knowledge in the field of social studies, but not necessarily good knowledge in the field of science, especially biology. The aim of this research is to reveal gender-based mastery of biology concepts of students majoring in social studies at SMA Negeri 7 Mataram using a project based learning model. The research method used quasi correlational involving 126 students, consisting of 45 male students and 81 female students. Data analysis used an independent sample t test at a significance level of 5%. The research results show that there is no significant difference between male and female students' mastery of concepts using the project based learning model. The average mastery of concepts for male students is 56.296, and the average mastery of concepts for female students is 57.510. The significance value (Sig. 2 tailed) is 0.618 > 0.05. Abstract

Academic resilience helps students overcome learning challenges and stay motivated in understanding complex biology materials. Computational thinking skills enable students to break down complex biology problems logically and structured, while the use of multirepresentations such as diagrams and graphs facilitates the understanding of abstract concepts. Biological literacy has a very important urgency for students because it plays a role in equipping them with the ability to understand, analyze, and apply biological concepts in everyday life. In the era of globalization and rapid development of science, biological literacy is an important basis for making intelligent decisions, especially related to environmental, health, and sustainability issues. The objective of this study is to investigate the influence of academic resilience on the biological literacy of students by means of computational thinking and multirepresentations. It is hypothesized that students' capacity to surmount intricate biology learning obstacles is enhanced by their high academic resilience. This study examines the correlation between academic resilience, computational thinking, multirepresentations, and biological literacy in high school pupils in Mataram City, Indonesia, utilizing quantitative methods and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis. The findings indicated that academic resilience has a substantial impact on the biological literacy of students (p < 0.05), both directly and through the mediation of computational thinking abilities and the use of multirepresentations. Computational thinking assists students in the deconstruction of intricate biological problems, while multirepresentations, such as diagrams and graphs, facilitate comprehension of abstract biological concepts.
