Abstract

Food coloring is a food additive that can improve or give color to food. Currently, there are still foods with prohibited synthetic dyes, namely Rhodamin B. Based on a preliminary study conducted in November 2020 in Gubeng District, it was found that chicken noodle traders were using tomato sauce with physical characteristics containing Rhodamin B such as striking red and inhomogeneous colors. . The purpose of this study was to identify the content of Rhodamin B in tomato sauce and to assess the knowledge and attitudes of chicken noodle traders regarding Rhodamin B dye in tomato sauce in the Gubeng District. This type of research is descriptive by using approach cross sectional. The sample in this study was tomato sauce from chicken noodle traders. The sampling technique for tomato sauce is total samplingsampling and thetechnique for chicken noodle traders is proportional random sampling. Data analysis was described descriptively from the results of laboratory examinations and questionnaire sheets and then grouped or classified. The results showed that the tomato sauce brand "A" was positive for Rhodamin B, the knowledge of chicken noodle traders about Rhodamine B dye in tomato sauce was sufficient (56.8%) and the attitude of the traders was mostly sufficient (59.1%). The conclusion of this study is that brand "A" tomato sauce contains Rhodamine B positive, the knowledge and attitude of chicken noodle traders about Rhodamine B dye in tomato sauce is sufficient. It is better for people, especially chicken noodle traders, to be more careful before buying tomato sauce.

Abstract

Abstract

Number one of the issues in controlling Aedes aegypti mosquitoes is the limitations of using chemical repellents, which often have harmful side effects for humans and the environment. The solution to this problem is using natural materials, such as Acalypha indica L. This study aims to inform the results of analyzing the potential of leaf extract Acalypha indica in repelling Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. This study is experimental, using a post-test-only control group design. The subjects of the study are leaf extracts of Acalypha indica at concentrations of 10%, 15%, and 20%. The object is 2-5 days old female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, totaling 675 individuals with 9 replications. The research variables include the number of mosquitoes landing and the protective efficacy. Data were collected through measurements and observations and analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test. At the 6th hour of testing, the protective efficacy for concentrations of 10%, 15%, and 20% was 75%, 70%, and 90%, respectively. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences in protective efficacy among the treatment groups (p<0.05). The concentration of 20% has proven potential in repelling Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, with 90% protective efficacy until the 6th hour of testing, according to the standards set by the Indonesian Pesticide Commission.

Abstract

Naphthol Yellow S, a textile dye waste, poses environmental pollution due to its degradable chromophore and auxochrome groups, necessitating processing. The aim was to analyze the adsorption kinetics of banana peel and corncob bioadsorbents to reduce the dye Naphthol Yellow S in wastewater. This research was a true experiment and the object used was an artificial Naphthol Yellow S solution with an initial concentration of 80 ppm applied to the adsorbent mass of 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 grams and contact time of 3, 6, 9, and 12 hours. Dye levels were measured before and after treatment using a spectrophotometer. The best adsorption test occurred on the banana peel bioadsorbent with an adsorbent mass of 0.3 grams and a stirring time of 3 hours. The adsorption study of banana peel and corncob bioadsorbents showed that the entire adsorption process of Naphthol Yellow S dye followed the Langmuir isothermal adsorption model with R2 coefficients of 0.9953 and 0.999, respectively, and maximum adsorption capacities of 4.6516 and 5.2825 mg/g, respectively. The activated carbon adsorption kinetics followed the second order, with R2 values of 0.9737 and 0.9152, respectively. This study concluded that the bioadsorbent of banana peels and corncob was able to reduce the dye Naphthol Yellow S.
