Abstract

Abstract This study aims to analyze the integration of character values into the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum based on deep learning for fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 3 Mataram Udik. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The participants included one PAI teacher and 46 students divided into two classes. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings reveal that character value integration was implemented through three main dimensions of deep learning: mindful learning, which fostered self-awareness and moral reflection; meaningful learning, which connected instructional content to students’ real-life experiences to strengthen value internalization; and joyful learning through STEAM-based projects that enhanced creativity, collaboration, and responsibility. The integration of these approaches not only improved students’ conceptual understanding of religious content but also holistically developed character traits such as honesty, trustworthiness, discipline, empathy, and teamwork. This study contributes to the development of a deep learning-based PAI instructional model aligned with 21st-century educational demands while maintaining strong religious value foundations.

Abstract

This community service initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of final-year students—prospective teachers and administrators of Islamic education—at the Al Mubarok College of Islamic Education (STIT) in Bandar Mataram through basic Islamic academic training. The activity was conducted in the form of a two-day Ramadhan Camp workshop (March 13–14, 2026) with 58 eighth-semester students from the Islamic Education (PAI), Elementary Madrasah Teacher Education (PGMI), and Islamic Education Management (MPI) programs. Training materials included thoharah and prayer practice, women’s issues (masalatunnisa’), funeral preparations (tajhizul janaiz), Hajj and Umrah, and zakat. The methods used were participatory approaches such as demonstrations, paired practice, simulations, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and case studies. Evaluation was conducted through participatory observation, discussion dynamics, and feedback provided by the students. The results indicate that this workshop successfully transformed participants’ understanding from theoretical knowledge into solid procedural skills, with FGDs proven effective for sensitive topics as they fostered an inclusive discussion environment. The psychological impact of the training included increased self-confidence among participants as prospective graduates ready to serve as community references in religious practices—as part of an Islamic-based university’s alumni—as well as the development of brotherhood and inter-departmental collaboration. In conclusion, the Ramadhan Camp workshop is effective in equipping final-semester students with basic fiqh skills in the form of practical worship. It is recommended that follow-up programs be implemented, such as community internships, an extension of the training duration, and making this activity a mandatory annual agenda for eighth-semester students.

Abstract

Abstract

The expanding use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed how university students engage with English in academic contexts, raising important questions about the continuing relevance and priorities of General English courses for non-English-major undergraduates. While previous studies have extensively examined students’ use of AI and its effects on language learning, limited research has investigated how AI-mediated learning reshapes students’ English language needs and their expectations of General English. This study therefore explores the English language needs of non-English-major undergraduates in the era of generative AI. Employing a qualitative analysis design, the study involved 30 students from five non-English study programmes at universities in West Sumatra, Indonesia. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and triangulated with General English course documents (Rencana Pembelajaran Semester). The data were analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s thematic analysis, informed by Hutchinson and Waters’ framework of necessities, lacks, and wants. Four themes emerged: (1) English as an essential academic resource in discipline-specific learning, (2) generative AI as an intelligent learning companion rather than a learning substitute, (3) the continuing importance of human communicative competencies, and (4) students’ expectations for AI-responsive General English. The findings suggest that generative AI is reshaping, rather than diminishing, students’ English language needs. The study highlights the need to redesign General English by integrating discipline-specific learning, AI literacy, and authentic communicative practices to better prepare students for AI-mediated academic and professional contexts.

Abstract

Despite the considerable potential for digital technologies in inclusive education, the exploration of TPACK pedagogies for the primacy of science in investigating students with disabilities is scant. This research aimed to implement TPACK for digital literacy and learning engagement in Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam dan Sosial (IPAS) instruction for students with hearing impairments and hyperactive verbalization in a state elementary school in Yogyakarta. The study employed a qualitative descriptive design, collecting data through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with teachers, and document analysis. Findings indicate that teachers were able to modify IPAS content by using interactive videos that integrated sign language, visual simulations, and gamified applications to enhance student access and participation. This digital media provided clarity in conceptual understanding, thereby motivating students with diverse needs to engage actively in the inclusive classroom. This study provides evidence that a well-structured TPACK-based approach can facilitate the development of digital literacy while creating meaningful learning experiences for students with disabilities in primary schooling. Teacher preparedness, the availability of accessible digital resources, and the flexibility of pedagogical practices should, therefore, be emphasized to facilitate the successful implementation of TPACK-based practices in inclusive educational settings.

Abstract

The use of safety equipment in the railway sector is crucial, particularly when navigation system failures occur. One such aid used when a train fails to stop is the buffer stop. Friction buffer stops are a type of buffer stop that can absorb large amounts of kinetic energy, enabling efficient and safe deceleration. Although it has been widely implemented in railway systems, few studies have evaluated its energy absorption capability and deceleration characteristics specifically on railway test tracks. This study aims to evaluate the absorption of kinetic energy by the buffer stop during train collisions and ensure the deceleration rate meets the standard of ≤ 2.5 m/s². This study used an analytical calculation method based on friction buffer stop design equations, ISO 898-1 bolt standards, and kinetic energy-deceleration analysis. The results of the study show the relationship between kinetic energy, deceleration rate, and braking distance, as well as the influence of bolt size and material grade on the friction force in the braking jaws. The deceleration rate meets the requirements; the braking distance is ≤ 11 meters, and the kinetic energy is well absorbed by the buffer stops.
