Abstract

Isu pemindahan Ibu Kota Negara (IKN) Indonesia ke wilayah Kalimantan Timur menuai pro dan kontra. Berbagai aspek dalam proses pemindahan IKN menjadi sorotan khalayak. salah satunya, dalam hal pemberian nama. Penamaan dapat diartikan sebagai bentuk kata untuk menyatakan sebuah panggilan, atau sebutan kepada orang, tempat, barang dan lain sebagainya. Umumnya penamaan mempertimbangkan beberapa aspek, salah satunya kekhasan yang dimiliki oleh wilayah tersebut. Sehingga kecenderungan penamaan identik dengan kumpulan hal-hal yang bersifat filosofis. Hal ini lah yang memicu munculnya teks berita diberbagai media yang berkaitan dengan penamaan IKN. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis wacana yang dibangun melalui media massa daring mengenai topik penamaan Ibu Kota Nusantara. Penelitian ini membahas bagaimana wacana penamaan Ibu Kota Nusantara dibangun melalui media massa daring. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian kepustakaan melalui pendekatan analisis teks model analisis wacana kritis Norman Fairclough. Analisis wacana media massa daring ini dilakukan dengan tiga dimensi yaitu teks, praktik diskursif, dan praktik sosial.

Abstract

This paper exposes collateral damage as representation of moral disengagement in the three superhero films of Black Adam, Captain America: The First Avenger, and Man of Steel. Iconography in superhero film represents ambivalent moral justifications. The superheroes must do everything to ‘save’ the world though it is done by embracing evil, destroying surroundings, or using cunning strategies. Any collateral damage in moral disengagement is considered necessary in order to destroy the source of the problem. The superheroes must do everything to save the day though he/she has to kill, to abuse his/her power, and even be ignorant only to focus on bigger things by sacrificing petty things. As the analysis, the moral disengagement is shown through recurring iconography of superheroes who kill other people and destroy the surrounding. The three superhero films indicate that the actions of the superheroes are only focusing on their own moral values. Collateral damage is considered not only as side effect of superheroes’ action, but also as reflection of their moral disengagement. In conclusion, the values that superheroes hold is universal, but actually, those destroy particular matters. Their moral doings are not totally true, but those are justified as one.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the actions of the characters in the novel Le Fantôme de l'Opéra by Gaston Leroux and their involvement in the story using aspects of narrative structure contained in Vladimir Propp's narrative structure study. This research uses qualitative approach and narrative approach. The material object of this research is Gaston Leroux’s Le Fantôme de l'Opéra which is studied using the concept of narrative structure proposed by Vladimir Propp. The data collection techniques used are reading and note-taking techniques. The data are grouped in a data tabulation table and then analyzed using structural analysis techniques. The results of this study show that this novel consists of 25 functions namely trickery, villainy, mediation, interdiction, beginning counteraction, unrecognized, reconnaissance, difficult task, delivery, the donor, complicity, transfiguration, struggle, absentation, hero’s reaction, departure, pursuit, provision, spatial translocation, the initial misfortune, violation, rescue, solution, return, exposure. The five spheres are villain, donor, helper, dispatcher, hero. The scheme in this novel is divided into three parts, namely the beginning, middle and end. These three schemes form a plot, namely a mixed plot, because the events that occur in this story begin in the middle. While the story progresses forward and several times displays pieces of flashback sections that explain the background of the story. Therefore, it can be concluded that the aspects of narrative structure found in this novel are aspects of actor's function, spheres of action and schemes, then the relationship between aspects is found in the aspect of the schemes.

Abstract

Suku Paser Telake di Kecamatan Long Kali masih mempercayai warisan leluhur yang dapat dilihat dari  ritual Belian. Salah satu ritual Belian yang dilakukan, yakni Belian Betulah  untuk tujuan menolak bala atau wabah penyakit dengan bacaan selawat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan ritual tolak bala Belian Betulah. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian fenomenologi yang bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan hubungan bahasa dan ranah pengalaman pemilik budaya dengan proses pengambilan data dilakukan melalui wawancara narasumber (pemilik budaya). Berdasarkan wawancara narasumber, terdapat tiga unsur utama dalam ritual Belian Betulah yaitu pertama, unsur performansi bahasa dalam ritual Belian Betulah dapat ditemukan penggunaan mantra atau do’a, titik atau lagu, dan selawat. Kedua, unsur partisipan dalam ritual ini dapat dilihat dari peran mulung, pemusik, dan penggading. Ketiga, unsur properti, seperti minyak, sajen, krembulu, daun-daun (tumbuhan), pakaian, alat musik, jangkit, perahu tingkat tujuh, dan, mahar. Selain itu, melalui wawancara dengan pemilik budaya, Belian Betulah dilaksanakan saat ada wabah yang menerpa suatu daerah yang di dalam prosesi terbagi menjadi dua yakni belian dan larung jangkit. Akulturasi budaya Islam terlihat pada prosesi larung jangkit dalam ritual Belian Betulah karena diiringi musik dan juga puji-pujian berbahasa Arab (selawat).

Abstract

Dipenghujung abad ke-20, hampir di berbagai belahan dunia, persoalan keragaman “identitas” atau “pilihan hidup” kembali mengemuka menjadi wacana yang krusial dan politis. Persoalan keragaman budaya yang dahulunya dipinggirkan, kemudian mendapat ruang dan tempat untuk dibicarakan kembali dalam wacana-wacana kontemporer. Perihal keragaman tersebut kini hadir dalam wujud wacana multikulturalisme. Dalam konteks Indonesia, sejak berakhirnya era Orde Baru, wacana multikulturalisme hadir dalam bentuk politik rekognisi atau politik perbedaan. Hak-hak minoritas atau hak-hak kewarganegaraan pascanasional seperti hak ekologis, hak budaya, dan hak identitas asli menjadi bagian dari tuntutan utama dari sebagian masyarakat di tanah air. Artikel ini menganalisis secara kritis wacana multikulturalisme dalam berbagai praktiknya di era (pasca)modern Indonesia, dan meneroka praktik multikulturalisme kontemporer tersebut dalam relasinya terhadap praktik-praktik kuasa pada berbagai konteks bernegara. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kepustakaan, yakni menggunakan beragam sumber kepustakaan yang membahas wacana keragaman di Indo nesia. Hasil pembahasan memperlihatkan bagaimana wacana multikulturalisme dapat menjadi tawaran alternatif atas berbagai cara pandang esensialis dan pergulatan keragaman di Indonesia, namun di sisi lain juga dapat menjadi persoalan krusial dan problematis khususnya dalam pembangunan wacana “keindonesian” di ruang-ruang publik dalam era kebebasan.

Abstract

This study investigates, from a cognitive perspective, the effectiveness of metaphor use in the communication of tourism print advertising-related messages (visual images). The researcher examines how the use of metaphorical language generates an effective visual image based on Lakoff and Johnson's (1980) model of metaphor. The study analyzes the mental impacts of metaphor usage in tourism print advertisements and investigates how they can contribute to an effective communication of tourist messages (images of certain tourist destinations). This research article investigates the power of employing metaphor as a figure of speech which increases imagery and memorability of the described tourist service and product. This study takes on the question of how metaphorical language constructs beautiful images of a given tourist destination and examines what kind of metaphor seems to be highly frequent and pervasive within the gathered data by the application of Lakoff and Johnson’s model-based cognitive perspective. This study makes use of both content analysis, as a qualitative research tool, and frequency count, as a quantitative research tool, to analyze the written language of tourism print advertising in various countries all over the world. This research article aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis of nineteen distinct tourist prints encompassing diverse tourist destinations around the globe. The purpose of which is to find out the most frequent type of metaphor and its impact on the communication of attractive and appealing images of certain tourist destinations. This mixed approach is established on appropriately constructed principles that would enable the author of this study to answer its questions. Lakoff and Johnson’s (1980) model-based cognitive perspective, as the theoretical framework of this study, provides the bases and the analytical tools to interpret the inferred information in this study. The findings indicate that approximately 68.4% (13 out of 19) of the analyzed ads contained structural metaphors, whereas around 31.6% (6 out of 19) contained ontological metaphors. Advertisers make recourse to structural metaphors because they offer a concise and comprehensible means of conveying complex ideas (abstract notions). They facilitate clarity in terms of communication of fundamental aspects and experiences. They resonate with the preference for the visual communication of compelling images of certain tourist destinations. They help to create captivating imagery that attracts the audience's attention and evokes specific emotions or perceptions which is one of the main marketing techniques in advertising practices. The extracted results which are predicated on the use of content analysis to investigate the collected data prove that metaphor-based messages tend to be significantly present in tourism print advertisements. The findings suggest that the use of metaphor is highly effective when it comes to intelligibly communicating abstract complex notions (images) related to tourist destinations. The most frequent type of metaphor as far as the examined data is concerned is the so-called structural metaphor. It is found to be much more effective in terms of communicating highly intricate thoughts and conveying unique and special qualities of a certain destination that make it stand out. It is one of the most important types of metaphor which are defined by Lakoff and Johnson (1980) (orientational, ontological, and structural metaphor). It constructs evocative and memorable images of the target tourist destination. The main limitation of this research article is that it heavily relies on Lakoff and Johnson's model-based cognitive perspective, which is not that widely accepted theory within the academic arena and does not consider other theoretical perspectives in the investigation of this research problem. Another limitation could emerge from not taking into account the factor of the so-called context of those examined tourism print advertisements (visual presentations and the target audience). These described limitations provide a framework for further future research in this area in order to perfectly gain more reliable and valid insights into this subject matter which is under investigation.

Abstract

This study analyses the types of neurotic needs experienced by Griffin through three kinds of neurotic conditions, which indicate that he has a neurotic disorder. This study uses psychoanalysis social by Karen Horney's theory about the types of neurotic needs, namely the neurotic need for power, the neurotic need to exploit others, the neurotic need for self-sufficiency, and independence. This study aimed to determine the types of neurotic conditions experienced by Griffin. This research method uses descriptive qualitative. The data Source of this research is the novel The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells, published in 1897 but using the 2016 version, which consists of 250 pages and 28 chapters. Meanwhile, the instrument in this study is note-taking. The data analysis technique of this research uses the theory of Miles and Huberman, namely, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions and verification. This study found that Griffin experienced three types of neurotic needs: the neurotic need for power, the neurotic need to exploit others, the neurotic need for self-sufficiency, and independence, which proves that he has a neurotic disorder or mental disorder. Social, cultural, and childhood life are the factors that influenced Griffin in a way to experience some types of neurotic needs.

Abstract

Konflik yang disebabkan karena perbedaan budaya dapat menimbulkan adanya perpecahan, perbedaan budaya, mayoritas-minoritas, selain itu, budaya yang lahir dari kebiasaan buruk masyarakat Indonesia yang tidak suka membaca dan mempertimbangkan makna suatu berita atau memahami suatu isu dapat menimbulkan kasus provokasi. Padahal, negara selama ini kerap menggaungkan ampuhnya pendekatan multikulturalisme, yakni penghormatan dan akomodasi atas kebutuhan dan ekspresi dalam keragaman budaya. Dalam konteks Indonesia, negara yang kaya akan keanekaragaman budaya, multikulturalisme menjadi suatu nilai yang penting untuk dipelajari dan dipahami. Salah satu bentuk pengungkapan multikulturalisme adalah melalui karya sastra berupa novel yang berjudul Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk karya Ahmad Tohari. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk representasi dan identitas multikulturalisme yang terdapat dalam novel. Menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan metode deskriptif, data diperoleh berupa kutipan kalimat dialog, dan narasi yang bersumber pada novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk karya Ahmad Tohari. Analisis penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan dasar teori representasi dan identitas budaya Stuart Hall. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah membaca dan mencatat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk mampu menggambarkan keragaman budaya yang ada dalam masyarakat Jawa, melalui representasi dan identitas budaya dalam konteks mental dan bahasa. Masyarakat Jawa memberikan kebebasan kepada masyarakat Desa Dukuh Paruk untuk mempertahankan dan mengembangkan kebudayaan mereka sendiri yang tampak dari karakter (mental) tokoh-tokoh dalam cerita sebagai representasi dan identitas budaya, serta penggunaan bahasa sehari-hari yang cabul dan kasar sebagai ekspresi mental warga desa Dukuh Paruk. Penyesuaian budaya dalam situasi tertentu juga tidak dapat dihindari, maka harus ditrima sebagai bentuk penjagaan hidup yang harmoni.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berfokus ke lima cerpen anak yang diperoleh dari majalah anak-anak versi daring Bobo. Rumusan masalah dari penelitian ini adalah bagaimana relevansi pandangan John Dewey terhadap multikulturalisme dalam dunia anak dalam cerpen-cerpen anak Bobo? Analisis terhadap cerpen-cerpen akan menggunakan teori John Dewey tentang pengalaman subjek terdidik, yang akan dikoneksikan dengan isu multikulturalisme. John Dewey adalah pemikir pragmatis yang mempercayai pengalaman sebagai cara terbaik untuk membuat subjek terdidik memperoleh pengetahuan. Hasil penelitian ini memperlihatkan tokoh-tokoh sebagai subjek dalam cerita yang mengalami konflik akibat perbedaan dengan subjek lain. Perbedaan tersebut terkait dengan banyak hal, di antaranya pandangan subjek, latar belakang budaya subjek dan cara subjek memandang lingkungan, dan sebagainya. Pada akhirnya tokoh-tokoh dalam cerpen mengatasi konflik mereka setelah bertemu dengan tokoh atau subjek lain dengan segala macam keberagamannya. Kelima cerpen tersebut memperlihatkan fenomena multikulturalisme yang beragam. Penelitian ini sekaligus menegaskan bahwa pandangan John Dewey terkait pengalaman subjek masih relevan dalam konteks nilai pendidikan dalam karya sastra, khususnya sastra anak.

Abstract

This article aims to identify the meaning of Pak Ponjen tradition in Blimbingrejo Nalumsari Jepara village and the values of married life contained in the tradition. There are two issues raised in this study, including the meaning of Pak Ponjen tradition in Blimbingrejo Nalumsari Jepara village and the values of married life in Pak Ponjen in Blimbingrejo Nalumsari Jepara village. This paper is the result of qualitative research with a case study method conducted in Blimbingrejo Nalumsari Jepara village. The data in this study were collected through observation during the Pak Ponjen ceremony procession, interviews with Pak Ponjen tradition actors, and documentation of writings or documents related to the tradition. The results of this study show that the Pak Ponjen tradition is a form of gratitude from parents to God for completing their duties in raising children to the stage of marriage. That way, the children are ready to live their own lives without parental intervention. This tradition is also a medium for parents to teach their children the values of married life, including: harmony, hard work, caring, frugal living, filial piety, and independence.
