Abstract

Self-confidence is an essential aspect of the psychosocial development process in elementary school students. Children with self-confidence tend to show active engagement in learning activities, courage to try new things, and the ability to express themselves. However, the development of self-confidence in elementary schools has not received adequate attention in formal learning, as academic and cognitive approaches remain dominant. This article is a literature review that aims to examine theories and non-cognitive strategies for developing self-confidence in elementary school students. By reviewing more than 20 scientific articles from national and international journals, it was found that strategies based on art, games, group work, and self-reflection have a positive impact on shaping and strengthening children's self-confidence. This literature review also emphasizes the importance of comprehensive support from various educational components, such as integration into the curriculum, strengthening teacher competencies through training, and creating a school culture that supports character development. Therefore, self- confidence should not be considered merely a byproduct of the learning process but should be established as one of the primary goals of learning, designed consciously, structurally, and systematically within the elementary school environment.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a snakes and ladders learning media based on productive struggle for teaching plane shapes to elementary school students. The background of this research stems from students’ difficulties in understanding the concepts of plane shapes and the limited instructional media used by teachers. The productive struggle approach offers structured challenges that encourage students to solve problems independently, thereby enhancing conceptual understanding, learning autonomy, and mental resilience. This study adopts the Educational Design Research (EDR) method. Data collection techniques include interviews, observations, questionnaires, and expert validation. The analysis results show that most teachers and students require interactive and enjoyable learning media that can also stimulate students’ thinking skills. Game-based media such as snakes and ladders, when integrated with productive struggle principles, is considered highly suitable for development as it aligns with the characteristics of elementary school students. These findings form a crucial foundation for designing effective and contextual learning media to support mathematics.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and implement the Healthy School Movement (GSS) program based on the leadership values of Ki Hajar Dewantara to foster students’ discipline and sense of responsibility at SMP Negeri 8 Pemalang. The background of the research is the low level of student discipline, lack of responsibility regarding cleanliness and health, and the suboptimal implementation of systematic character building within the school environment. The research adopts a Research and Development (R&D) approach using a modified Borg & Gall model consisting of five stages: needs analysis, program design, development, limited-scale implementation, and evaluation. The needs analysis revealed weaknesses among students in maintaining personal hygiene, punctuality, and healthy lifestyle habits. The GSS program was designed to integrate character education values through regular activities such as morning exercises, healthy breakfast routines, communal clean-up efforts, and attitude reflection. The instruments and program guidebooks were tested for content, construct, and empirical validity, with results indicating “valid” to “highly valid,” demonstrating the program’s theoretical and practical feasibility. Implementation in class VIII  showed significant improvements in student discipline, engagement, and responsibility. Teacher evaluations and student self-assessments categorized the program as “good” to “very good,” though the attitude reflection component requires further reinforcement through regular guidance. Feedback from both teachers and students serves as the basis for program refinement and future broader, sustainable implementation. Overall, the GSS program is proven effective in developing students’ character when carried out in a structured, participatory, and consistent manner.
