Abstract

This study aims to analyze Canva media's use in developing fifth-grade elementary school students' critical thinking skills. Critical thinking skills are one of the important competencies in the Independent Curriculum, but many students still have not shown these abilities optimally in the learning process. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation of the learning process that utilizes Canva media. The subjects of the study were fifth-grade students at SDI Al Azhar 2 in Jakarta City. The results of the study showed that Canva media was able to attract students' attention, make it easier to understand the material, and encourage students to be more active in expressing opinions and compiling arguments. Canva also provides a wide exploration space for students to express ideas visually and creatively. Based on these findings, Canva media is worthy of being used as an alternative learning medium that supports the development of critical thinking skills of elementary school students.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of Powtoon-based digital media on fourth-grade students' learning interest in the Solar System topic at SD Negeri Retraen. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group. Participants were divided into two groups: the experimental group, which used Powtoon animation media, and the control group, which received conventional instruction. Learning interest was measured through a Likert-scale questionnaire covering attention, curiosity, participation, and enthusiasm. Data were analyzed using an independent sample t-test. The results indicated that the experimental group achieved significantly higher post-test scores in learning interest compared to the control group, as evidenced by a p-value below 0.05. These findings suggest that integrating Powtoon animation media into thematic instruction effectively enhances student engagement, particularly in abstract science topics such as the Solar System. The dynamic visualization provided by Powtoon helps students comprehend complex material more concretely, fostering a more interactive and enjoyable learning experience. This study recommends the broader adoption of digital animation tools in elementary education to improve instructional quality and increase student participation.

Abstract

Teacher performance is a key factor in educational success, yet issues such as tardiness, poor preparation, and low engagement in school activities remain common. This study aims to examine the influence of motivation, rewards, and principal leadership on teacher performance at SD Global Prestasi School. A quantitative approach using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was employed, involving 60 teacher respondents. The results show that motivation (p = 0.009; coefficient = 0.421) and rewards (p = 0.011; coefficient = 0.370) have a positive and significant influence on teacher performance. Conversely, principal leadership does not show a significant effect (p = 0.248; coefficient = 0.204). An R-square value of 0.489 indicates that the three variables explain 48.9% of the variance in teacher performance, while a Q-square value of 0.360 demonstrates good predictive relevance. These findings suggest that improving teacher performance should focus on enhancing motivation and providing appropriate rewards.

Abstract

The problems encountered in this study were low mathematical logic abilities and cooperation skills among students. The main factors causing this were students' lack of understanding of the material, lack of participation, boredom during learning, and a tendency to rely on friends in group activities. To overcome these problems, the BALOGO model was applied. The objective of this study was to describe and analyze improvements in mathematical logic skills and collaboration skills. The study was conducted using a qualitative and quantitative approach in the form of Classroom Action Research over four sessions, with a sample consisting of 23 students, including 15 males and 8 females in Grade V at SDN Bahalayung Elementary School, Barito Kuala Regency. The data were presented in graphical form. The results showed a significant increase in mathematical logic intelligence from 13% to 96% with the criterion of “highly skilled,” and in cooperation skills from 30% to 91% with the criterion of “highly skilled.” The conclusion drawn from the learning process in mathematics using the BALOGO model is that it can enhance students' mathematical logic intelligence and cooperation skills.

Abstract

This study was motivated by issues in students’ self-concept and interpersonal communication, characterized by difficulties in self-recognition, rejection of others’ opinions, introversion, lack of empathy, and challenges in building friendships. The objectives were: (1) to describe students’ self-concept, (2) to describe their interpersonal communication, and (3) to examine the correlation between self-concept and interpersonal communication. This research employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive correlational design. The population consisted of 136 eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 12 Padang, with a sample of 103 selected using proportional random sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using percentage and Pearson product-moment correlation. The results indicate that: (1) students’ self-concept is in the high category (81%), (2) interpersonal communication is in the fairly good category (61%), and (3) there is no significant relationship between self-concept and interpersonal communication (r-calculated 0.133 < r-table 0.195 at a 0.05 significance level). It is concluded that self-concept does not strongly correlate with interpersonal communication skills, suggesting that school counselors implement group guidance or classroom services focusing on improving interpersonal communication skills.

Abstract

Corruption in higher education presents a serious challenge in shaping a young generation with strong integrity. Anti-corruption education that is not aligned with local cultural values often fails to effectively reach students’ moral awareness. This study aims to examine the role of Minangkabau local culture in supporting anti-corruption education to build integrative student character. Employing a library research method, this study analyzes a range of scholarly journals, official reports, academic books, and traditional Minangkabau documents. The findings reveal that Minangkabau cultural values such as shame (malu), trustworthiness (amanah), honesty (jujur), and deliberation (musyawarah/sakato) have great potential to be integrated into anti-corruption character education. These values function not only as normative ideals but also as a living system of social control within the community. Integrating local cultural values into university curricula and learning activities can strengthen students’ cognitive, affective, and moral behavioral development. Thus, this approach fosters students who do not merely understand anti-corruption principles theoretically but also adopt them as a way of life.

Abstract

This study explored English teachers’ experiences in utilizing slide presentation tools to enhance English teaching at SMAN 8 Pekanbaru. Specifically, it examined how slides were employed to organize lessons, support comprehension, manage classroom activities, and motivate students. A qualitative case study was conducted with five purposively selected teachers, and data from semi-structured interviews were analyzed thematically to ensure depth and credibility. The findings highlight three interrelated dimensions: instructional, technological, and creative-motivational experiences. Instructionally, slides enabled teachers to align content with learning objectives, maintain lesson flow, and optimize classroom management. Technologically, teachers demonstrated strong familiarity with tools such as PowerPoint and Canva, showing confidence and adaptability when facing challenges such as technical disruptions. Creatively, the integration of visuals, animations, and multimedia features enhanced learner engagement while requiring careful balance between aesthetics and clarity. These insights suggest that slide tools function not merely as visual support but as integral pedagogical instruments that shape instructional delivery, foster comprehension, and sustain engagement. The study contributes to English education by underscoring the importance of digital competence and instructional innovation, offering implications for professional development programs in English Teaching contexts.
