Abstract

This research was motivated by the low level of students' critical thinking skills in Islamic Religious Education learning. This condition is indicated by the percentage of students' critical thinking abilities, where 50% of students are categorized as having moderate critical thinking skills, 30% as having critical thinking skills, and 20% as not demonstrating critical thinking skills. To overcome this problem, effective learning models are needed to improve students' critical thinking abilities. Two learning models considered relevant are Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Project Based Learning (PjBL). However, both models have their own advantages and limitations, therefore it is necessary to examine the effectiveness of these two learning models in the learning process. This study used a quantitative approach with a 2×2 factorial design. The population consisted of 145 students, while the sample involved 58 students selected through random sampling and divided into two learning groups. Data on students' critical thinking skills were collected through essay tests and analyzed using a t-test, considering subgroups of students with high and low prior abilities. The results showed that students’ critical thinking skills using the Problem Based Learning model were better than those using the Project Based Learning model among students with high prior ability (p = 0.038 < 0.05). Meanwhile, for students with low prior ability, there was no significant difference between the two learning models (p = 0.91 > 0.05). Overall, there was a significant difference in students’ critical thinking skills between the PBL and PjBL models regardless of students’ prior abilities (p = 0.031 < 0.05).

Abstract

This study aims to improve the reading interest of first-grade students at SD through the use of the Literacy Tree media in learning activities. The background of this study is based on the low level of students’ reading interest, which is indicated by a lack of enthusiasm in participating in reading activities, minimal interest in reading materials, and a low frequency of students engaging in independent reading. These conditions highlight the need for innovative and engaging learning media that are appropriate to the characteristics of early-grade elementary school students. This research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted in three cycles. Each cycle consisted of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects of the study were first-grade students of SD Negeri 61 Banda Aceh. Data were collected through observation sheets, documentation, and reading interest assessment instruments. The Literacy Tree media was used as an attractive visual learning tool designed to display students’ reading outcomes in the form of “literacy leaves” attached to a tree. Each leaf contained simple information such as the book title, short summaries, or students’ impressions after reading. This media aimed to enhance students’ motivation through a visual approach, simple appreciation, and by fostering a sense of pride and confidence in their reading achievements. The results of the study indicate a significant improvement in students’ reading interest in each cycle, as shown by increased participation in reading activities, greater enthusiasm in selecting reading materials, and a higher tendency to engage in independent reading. Therefore, the Literacy Tree media is effective as an alternative learning medium to enhance reading interest among elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze teachers’ perceptions of the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal Program (Program Makan Bergizi Gratis/MBG) at SD GMIT Oepura. The MBG program is a national policy initiated by the Indonesian government to improve students’ nutritional status, health, and learning readiness, as well as to reduce stunting among school-age children. This research employed a descriptive quantitative approach using a survey method. The subjects consisted of 19 elementary school teachers who were directly involved in and had adequate knowledge of the MBG program implementation. Data were collected through a closed-ended questionnaire using a Likert scale, which measured six main indicators: teachers’ understanding of the MBG program, program implementation, food quality and suitability, program impact on students, implementation constraints, and teachers’ attitudes and support toward the program. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques by calculating mean scores and categorizing them based on predetermined criteria. The results indicate that teachers’ understanding of the MBG program is categorized as “understand,” program implementation is perceived as “good,” and food quality and suitability are considered “appropriate” according to students’ nutritional needs. The program is also perceived to have a positive impact on students, particularly in improving health conditions and learning motivation. However, several challenges were identified, including limited food storage facilities, coordination issues among stakeholders, and potential disruptions to classroom learning activities. Despite these constraints, teachers demonstrate positive attitudes and strong support for the sustainability of the MBG program. These findings highlight the important role of teachers as key implementers of the program and emphasize the need for improved coordination, adequate infrastructure, and continuous evaluation to optimize the effectiveness and sustainability of the Free Nutritious Meal Program in elementary schools.

Abstract

Soil salinity is a major limiting factor in global agricultural production, affecting plant growth, physiology, and yield, and poses a major threat to global agricultural productivity. The accumulation of Na⁺ and Cl⁻ ions cause osmotic stress, ion toxicity, and metabolic disorders in plants. Developing salinity-tolerant crop varieties is an important strategy for increasing the productivity of marginal lands. Modern biotechnological approaches such as genetic engineering and marker-assisted selection (MAS) enable the development of superior varieties more quickly and accurately than conventional methods, offering a rapid and precise solution for developing salt-tolerant crop varieties. Genetic engineering allows the direct introduction of salinity tolerance genes, while MAS allows the selection of tolerance genes based on molecular markers. This article reviews the basic mechanisms of salinity stress, the role of tolerance-related genes, and biotechnological strategies used in plant breeding. An integrative approach between genetic engineering and MAS is an effective strategy for producing varieties adaptive to saline soils in modern plant breeding (Munns & Tester, 2008; Flowers & Colmer, 2015).

Abstract

The hybrid Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Power Generation System combined with a Diesel Power Plant (PLTD) represents a strategic solution to enhance the reliability and efficiency of electricity supply in remote island power networks. However, the main operational challenge lies in determining an optimal dispatch strategy that minimizes fossil fuel consumption and operating costs without compromising system reliability. This study aims to optimize the operation of a 300 kWp hybrid PV system on Maratua Island using a simulation-based optimization approach and parametric sensitivity analysis. The simulation models the existing system configuration—which comprises the PV plant, diesel generators, and a battery energy storage system—while incorporating time-series load data and renewable resource inputs. The optimization results indicate that implementing an appropriate operational strategy can significantly reduce diesel fuel consumption and energy costs compared to the baseline operating condition. The parametric sensitivity analysis shows that variations in key parameters, such as battery capacity and dispatch strategy, have a dominant influence on the net present cost and the levelized cost of energy. These findings provide practical technical recommendations for managing hybrid PV systems in island regions, particularly in support of energy transition initiatives and diesel generator phase-out programs in Indonesia. The novelty of this research lies in the application of a simulation-based optimization approach combined with parametric sensitivity analysis to evaluate and optimize the operational strategy of hybrid PV systems in remote island electrical networks using real operational data. Unlike previous studies that typically focus on capacity design or static techno-economic assessments, this study emphasizes the optimization of operational dispatch strategies as a primary decision variable. Furthermore, it specifically examines the sensitivity of technical and operational parameters to the system’s economic performance, resulting in more adaptive and implementable recommendations for hybrid power plant management in isolated systems. Keywords: Hybrid PV system; operational optimization; simulation‑based optimization; sensitivity analysis; islanded power system
