Abstract

Limited Qur’anic reading proficiency can hinder students’ participation in Islamic Religious Education. This article examines the roles of teachers and parents and proposes a collaborative model to improve students’ reading skills. A qualitative narrative review was conducted using nine peer-reviewed articles published between 2021 and 2026. The findings show that teachers support improvement through assessment, differentiated instruction, modeling, guided practice, motivation, habituation, and evaluation. Parents contribute through supervision, emotional support, learning facilities, religious routines, role modeling, and additional guidance. Effective improvement requires regular practice, shared indicators, communication, and follow-up. The main barriers include differences in initial ability, limited time, low confidence, uneven parental competence, and inconsistent home practice. The proposed model includes mapping, intervention, monitoring, and follow-up.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze EFL students' difficulties in categorizing English word classes based on their mental lexicon at SMKN 5 Mataram. A qualitative descriptive research design was employed involving fifteen tenth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a Word Categorization Test and semi-structured interviews. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings revealed that students experienced difficulties in categorizing abstract nouns, morphologically complex words, and words with multiple grammatical functions. The interview results indicated that these difficulties were influenced by reliance on semantic meaning, limited morphological awareness, difficulties in retrieving grammatical information, and weak lexical connections within the students' mental lexicon. Although most students correctly categorized familiar words, they encountered problems when processing unfamiliar or context-dependent vocabulary. The study concludes that the organization of the mental lexicon plays a significant role in students' ability to categorize English word classes accurately. Therefore, English vocabulary instruction should emphasize not only word meanings but also morphological knowledge, grammatical functions, and contextual usage to strengthen students' lexical organization and improve language learning outcomes.

Abstract

Analogical reasoning is an essential skill in mathematics learning because it enables students to transfer knowledge from a source problem to a target problem with a similar underlying structure. With technological advancements, Artificial Intelligence (AI), such as ChatGPT, has emerged as a learning support tool in mathematics education. This study aimed to describe senior high school students’ analogical reasoning in solving open-ended mathematical problems with AI support based on their mathematical ability levels. This research employed a qualitative case study design. The participants were three senior high school students selected through purposive sampling, consisting of student with high mathematical ability, student with moderate mathematical ability, and student with low mathematical ability. The research instruments included a mathematical ability test, an analogical reasoning test in the form of open-ended problems on the topic of Systems of Linear Equations in Three Variables (SLETV), and a semi-structured interview guide. Data were analyzed using Ruppert’s stages of analogical reasoning: structuring, mapping, applying, and verifying. The findings revealed that students with high mathematical ability demonstrated structural analogical reasoning by completing all stages of analogical reasoning and focusing on the underlying mathematical structure shared by the source and target problems. Students with moderate mathematical ability exhibited partial analogical reasoning, completing all stages but relying primarily on similarities in solution procedures. Meanwhile, students with low mathematical ability demonstrated surface analogical reasoning, characterized by a focus on contextual and surface similarities between the problems. Overall, the quality of analogical reasoning improved as students’ mathematical ability increased. AI functioned as an interactive support tool that facilitated idea exploration, strategy development, and solution verification throughout the analogical reasoning process

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low ball-striking skill of Grade V-B students at SD Negeri 1 Pengajaran. It aimed to improve students’ manipulative fundamental movement skill in ball striking through modified rounders games. Classroom Action Research was conducted in two cycles, each comprising planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants were 20 students (10 boys and 10 girls). In Cycle I, students practised with a bat having an 8-cm striking surface; in Cycle II, the surface was reduced to 6 cm, while all evaluations used the same standard bat. Data were collected through a performance test assessing arm swing, body position, ball contact, and ball direction, and through a student-activity observation sheet. Data were analysed using mean scores, mastery percentages, the Lilliefors normality test, and a paired-samples t-test. The mean score increased from 52.9 in the pre-cycle to 60.4 in Cycle I and 79.6 in Cycle II. Learning mastery increased from 0% to 40% and then to 85%, while student activity rose from 80.00% to 86.67%. Both pre-cycle and Cycle II data were normally distributed. The paired-samples t-test showed a significant improvement (t = 17.169 > t critical = 2.093; df = 19). Therefore, progressively modified rounders games effectively improved elementary students’ ball-striking skill and learning participation.
