Abstract

The decline in reading habits and comprehension has become a growing concern among educators and researchers in Indonesia.  This study aimed to describe and correlate the English reading habit and comprehension levels.  The respondents were 94 students-grade students in Minahasa Utara Regency, Indonesia.  This study utilized a quantitative approach, using descriptive and correlation statistical analysis of the collected numeric data.  The analysis outcomes showed that the respondents indicated a low level of English reading habit and a moderate level of English reading comprehension.  Notably, the study revealed that there was no significant correlation between students’ reading habit and their English reading comprehension level.  These findings suggest that other factors may contribute to their comprehension skills, which may require further studies.

Abstract

This study analyzes the effectiveness of the Teacher Mobilization Program (PGP) by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, focusing on resource-related challenges and opportunities. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected from ten PGP alumni and the coordinator of the Directorate of Professional Education and Development of Teachers and Education Personnel (PPPGTK). Findings indicate that while communication strategies align with Edward III's indicators, areas need improvement. The program meets ideal resource characteristics but faces challenges like inadequate infrastructure in remote areas. Implementer attitudes are crucial, with incentives and bureaucratic appointments identified as key areas for improvement. Flexible Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) support effective implementation, though organizational fragmentation can hinder coordination. Recommendations include clear communication of program objectives from registration, ensuring training does not overlap with teaching hours, and developing a follow-up action plan. These measures aim to optimize resource utilization and enhance PGP's overall effectiveness.

Abstract

This study employs a qualitative and descriptive library research method to analyse viral political jargon circulating on social media, such as "AMIN," "Gemoy", "Sat Set - Tas Tes” and others. Data was collected using observation and note-taking techniques and analysed through a sociolinguistic framework to identify the forms, meanings, and factors contributing to the popularity of these expressions. The analysis process involved data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Findings reveal that political jargon in this election includes words, phrases, clauses, and sentences, with morphological techniques like reduplication and affixation making the expressions memorable and relatable. These jargons carry denotative, connotative, and associative meanings, reflecting social and political values and enhancing political communication. This language use aids voters' understanding and boosts public engagement in discourse. This research shows that political jargon serves as a communication tool to shape group identity and reinforce candidate narratives, providing insights into the intersections of language, politics, and culture in contemporary democracy.
