Abstract

The development of digital technology has driven significant transformations in Islamic Religious Education learning, particularly since the implementation of the Independent Curriculum. This study aims to analyze the influence of the Independent Curriculum on the digitalization of Islamic religious education learning, and how it shapes student behavior patterns, understanding of religious values, and engagement in the learning process. This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature review as the primary method, which examines various relevant literature on technology integration in religious learning. The results show that the Independent Curriculum encourages learning flexibility, strengthens digital competencies, and improves students' religious literacy through interactive media. However, challenges were also identified, such as the risk of exposure to negative content and the digital access gap. With the strategic role of teachers as facilitators and guides, digitalization in the Independent Curriculum has the potential to improve the quality of religious education relevant to the needs of the times.

Abstract

This study aims to extract and analyze the values of character education contained in Surah al-Qalam based on the interpretation of Shaykh Muhammad Mutawalli Asy-Sya’rawi and to examine their relevance to contemporary character education, particularly in the role of parents. Employing a qualitative literature-based method with a thematic exegesis (tafsir maudhu‘i) approach, the study identifies core values such as patience, integrity, humility, and steadfastness, which align with the principles of akhlāq al-maḥbūbah (beloved character) and qudwah ḥasanah (good example) in Islamic pedagogy. Practically, the research formulates concrete steps for parents, including protecting children from harmful environments, fostering self-confidence, instilling moral principles, using storytelling as a value-education method, nurturing the spirit of worship, and guiding patience in obedience and da’wah. The findings fill a gap in the literature by providing an in-depth analysis of Surah al-Qalam through the lens of contemporary exegesis, offering an applicable model that bridges Qur’anic values with real-world character-building strategies. Keywords: Character Education, Asy-Sya’rawi’s Tafsir, Parental Role, Islamic Values. Abstract

The relationship between Islam and science remains a strategic focus in Islamic higher education institutions. This study examines the implementation of Nidal Guessoum’s epistemic-ethical coexistence model in enhancing the religious-scientific literacy of students at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar. Using a qualitative-exploratory design, data were collected through interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis, then analyzed thematically. The majority of respondents recognized the importance of integration, although their understanding of it varied. When Islamic values were directly linked with scientific concepts, student participation and critical reflection increased, especially on environmental and technological issues. Furthermore, 74% of students indicated that this approach helped unify rationality and faith. However, the main challenges stemmed from limited interdisciplinary competence among lecturers and inconsistent institutional policy support. Nevertheless, the findings indicate significant opportunities to strengthen religious-scientific literacy through integrative curriculum policies and targeted faculty training. This study affirms that integrating science and religion is not only feasible but also effective in fostering a holistic conceptual and spiritual understanding. The study also recommends longitudinal research to evaluate the long-term impact on students’ scientific and ethical competencies as well as on society at large.

Abstract

The school zoning policy, as outlined in the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, aims to ensure equitable access to education. However, implementing this system presents significant challenges for educational institutions, especially when it comes to attracting new students. This study examines the shift in public interest in private Islamic educational institutions resulting from the policy. A systematic review of 278 articles was conducted, and 17 articles were selected based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. These criteria were meticulously defined and applied in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines, encompassing a wide range of sources from Scopus, Google Scholar, and Lens.org. Org. Existing research suggests that the public has limited ability to choose schools that align with their children's interests and talents. This impacts learning motivation and satisfaction with the education received. Consequently, private Islamic educational institutions have the opportunity to attract high-quality students by offering a curriculum that is more responsive to community needs

Abstract

Current mathematics assessment models prioritize academic standards over ethical values. This gap perpetuates reductionist and ethically devoid assessment. This study aims to establish a foundation for Qur'anic ethical assessment based on mizān and develop a conceptual framework for assessment in mathematics education. This theoretical-literature-thematic study analyzes five groups of the Qur'anic verses (namely: 7:85, 21:47, 42:17, 55:7-9, 57:25 ) with a critical-reflective approach to criticize the dominant culture in assessment. The analysis connects the mīzān-ethic principle with contemporary mathematical theory through an interdisciplinary synthesis. This study produces: (1) Mīzān in the Qur'an is a symbol of universal ethics. The mīzān-based assessment reflects moral values and integrity. The concept of ethical-Qur'anic assessment is a framework that unites spiritual, social, and individual aspects. (2) The concept of ethical-Qur'anic assessment should not only measure learning outcomes but also reflect the values of fairness, honesty, and balance. This assessment simultaneously and harmoniously combines cognitive, affective, and social competencies. Teachers not only test but also uphold ethical and character values. This assessment avoids bias and rejects discrimination, but fosters empathy to shape students to be active, value-conscious, and responsible individuals. This concept provides a new direction for assessment design in mathematics education.

Abstract

This study explores the integration of Islamic spiritual values within thematic instruction in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri (MIN) across Padang City, Indonesia. As expectations grow for Islamic primary schools to balance academic achievement with the cultivation of religious character, understanding how to embed spiritual values into general subjects becomes increasingly vital. The research aims to identify the spiritual values adopted, examine their implementation in classroom practices, and assess their impact on students’ holistic development. Employing a qualitative–descriptive approach, data were collected from six MIN through classroom observations, teacher interviews, lesson plan analysis, and surveys of teachers and parents (n = 50). The findings reveal eight core values—tawakkul (trust in God), ikhlas (sincerity), amanah (responsibility), rahmah (compassion), syukur (gratitude), tauhid (oneness of God), istiqamah (steadfastness), and adab (ethical conduct)—integrated across multiple subjects. Strategies include spiritual reflection, contextual prayers, Islamic storytelling, and social service activities. The results indicate improvements in students’ moral behavior and sense of responsibility, demonstrating that spiritually based thematic learning effectively fosters both academic competence and spiritual maturity.

Abstract

Foreign Schools aimed at developing Christianity in the Turkish region were visible during the decline of the Ottoman Empire, which had undergone the Reformation. The schools consisted of elementary schools and universities, which were previously intended only for foreign citizens or those considered foreign citizens in the Ottoman Empire. However, this school continued to develop its wings through the Christian mission of various countries, including the United States. After Turkey turned into a republic, there was a secularization of the anti-Islamic education system. Islam is considered an obstacle to progress that has been eroded by time. By conducting a literature study, we took a historical approach with source verification and qualitative data analysis, which was then explained descriptively. We found that Islamic education cannot be stopped because History cannot be erased just like that. The identity of Turkish society comes from Islam. Even though the Islamic values in education in Turkey experienced degradation along with the disbandment of Islamic schools, recently, the Turkish secularist figure Kemal Atatürk died, and Islamic schools gradually re-emerged during Erdogan's reign. More Islamic schools are learning the Koran and Hadith again, using Arabic, which is expected to produce a pious and devout generation.

Abstract

The digital era has transformed the conventional learning paradigm towards technology-based learning, especially with the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that offers the potential for learning personalization. In the context of Islamic Religious Education (PAI), AI integration faces specific challenges related to the validity of religious content and the maintenance of the spiritual dimension. This research aims to analyze the strategy of using AI as a means of learning for PAI students in the digital era, identify the potential and challenges of its implementation, and develop a learning model that is in line with Islamic values. The research uses a Mixed Method with a Sequential Exploratory Design approach. Qualitative data was collected through in-depth interviews with PAI students, classroom observations, and documentation. Quantitative data was obtained through a structured survey of 72 respondents of PAI students using Google Form. The findings show a gap in learning quality where only 30-40% of lecturers apply optimal learning strategies. PAI students showed a high acceptance of AI with 71% using it for reference search, 61% finding it helpful in understanding difficult concepts, and 52% using it for material summaries. However, the impact on discussion confidence is still limited (38%) and its use in learning routines is situational (39% consistent), so the integration of AI in PAI learning has great potential to improve learning personalization and efficiency of access to Islamic knowledge resources, but requires a hybrid learning model that positions AI as a reinforcement of human teaching without replacing the essential role of lecturers in the transmission of values and spiritual guidance. The development of a phased implementation framework that includes standardization of learning quality, improved AI literacy, and ethical considerations that are in line with Islamic values is needed
