Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the influence of spiritual motivation and institutional support on teaching efficacy among volunteer teachers in pesantren across Jambi Province, Indonesia. A cross-sectional survey design was employed, involving 218 volunteer teachers from 24 pesantren. Data were collected using adapted instruments measuring spiritual motivation, perceived institutional support, basic psychological needs satisfaction (autonomy, competence, relatedness), and teaching efficacy. Structural equation modeling (SEM) with partial least squares (PLS-SEM) was used for data analysis. The results reveal that spiritual motivation significantly and positively influenced teaching efficacy (β = 0.39, p < 0.001), both directly and through the mediation of satisfaction of basic psychological needs. Institutional support also exerted a significant positive effect on teaching efficacy (β = 0.31, p < 0.001), primarily mediated by the satisfaction of competence and relatedness needs. The interaction between spiritual motivation and institutional support produced a synergistic effect that enhances the fulfillment of all three basic psychological needs. These findings extended SDT by demonstrating that spiritually grounded intrinsic motivation, when coupled with structured institutional support, creates an optimal motivational ecology for volunteer teachers in faith-based educational settings. The implications of this study indicated that PBL can be used as an effective alternative learning model to improve students’ learning outcomes and social attitudes in Islamic integrated elementary schools

Abstract

This study analyzes and describe the practices of Kiai's digital leadership in implementing distance education in pesantren, particularly in bridging the gap between technological affordances and a sustainable educational ecosystem. The research employed a qualitative approach with a multi-case study design across four pesantren representing different typologies (modern, salaf, and hybrid). Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. Data analysis was conducted using an a semantic analysis, while triangulation was applied through source triangulation to ensure validity. The findings revealed four main digital leadership strategies: role modeling, delegation of authority, normative-restrictive control through religious legitimacy, and incremental-institutional approaches. These strategies demonstrated that the success of distance education in pesantren is highly dependent on the Kiai’s ability to integrate technology with institutional values and cultural contexts. The study implied that value-based digital leadership plays a crucial role in ensuring sustainable digital transformation in religious educational institutions, offering both theoretical contributions to digital leadership discourse and practical guidance for pesantren management.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze TikTok syndrome among Muslim students, its ethical relevance, and its implications for Islamic education. TikTok’s expansion has intensified concerns over behavior, communication, and judgment among Muslim youth. In Islamic higher education, excessive use may weaken adab, privacy awareness, and responsibility. This research used a qualitative case study in pesantren-based Islamic higher education. Data were gathered through focus group discussions, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman. The findings show that TikTok syndrome causes routine disruption, compulsive use, fragmented interaction, and self-exposure. High use duration was linked to weakened time discipline and reduced control over activities. However, some students limited usage effectively, indicating that disruption is mediated by self-regulation. Islamic digital ethics was found relevant for self-control, verification, and responsible online conduct. Respondents with ethical awareness were more critical toward viral or extreme content. TikTok also had ambivalent implications for Islamic education, supporting learning but disrupting worship consistency and character formation. This study contributes an integrative perspective linking digital disruption, Islamic ethics, and Islamic education objectives. Future research should test Islamic digital literacy interventions in broader settings.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the application of the communicative language teaching (CLT) method in enhacing Arabic reading skills (maharah al-qira'ah) in students at MTsN 3 Palu. The method used was qualitative using Miles and Huberman's analysis from data of observations, interviewes, and documenties. The results of the study showed that the application of the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) method in teaching reading skills at MTsN 3 Kota Palu has been proven to have a significant impact on improving students’ communicative and holistic reading abilities through systematic implementation and the use of interactive and meaningful learning strategies. The research findings indicated that the success of CLT is largely determined by systematic teaching implementation through introductory, core, and concluding stages, as well as the use of communicative strategies such as loud reading, repetitive reading, reducing reading anxiety, text chunking, and collaborative reading. This study reinforces CLT’s position as a flexible and contextual approach in Arabic language learning, while also providing a practical contribution in the form of an implementation model that teachers can use as a reference. The strengths of this study lie in its comprehensive and contextual analysis and the integration of religious values into learning.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine and analyze the impact of learning using environmental literacy-based worksheets on the development of environmental decision-making skills, as well as how these skills increase students' environmental awareness within the framework of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). An experimental design was used in this study. Quantitative data were collected through improvements in students' environmental literacy using tests, observations, and questionnaires administered to 52 sixth-grade students in Indonesia, while qualitative data were obtained through interviews and classroom observations. Descriptive and correlation analyses were used to explore the relationship between the use of environmental literacy worksheets, decision-making skills, and environmental awareness. The results of the MANOVA effectiveness test showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. These findings indicated that the use of environmental literacy worksheets has a significant effect on the development of environmental decision-making skills. This effect is evident in the aspects of resource use, energy conservation, and environmental problem solving. The findings imply that integrating environmental literacy-based worksheets into primary education can serve as an effective pedagogical strategy to foster sustainable decision-making competencies. Furthermore, this approach supports the practical implementation of ESD by equipping students with the skills needed to address real-world environmental challenges, thereby contributing to the development of environmentally responsible citizens.

Abstract

This study aimed the association between intensity of PPATQ-RF ku application usage and guardians’ satisfaction, providing an evidence base for more effective technology-enabled services. A quantitative design was employed using a structured questionnaire administered to 60 guardians from diverse regions and age groups. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, item validity tests, reliability analysis, Pearson’s correlation, and simple linear regression. The instrument demonstrated high internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.838) and all items met validity criteria. A moderate, statistically significant positive correlation emerged between application usage and satisfaction (r = 0.573; p < 0.05). The regression model Y=11.948+0.699XY = 11.948 + 0.699X accounted for 32.9% of the variance in satisfaction. These findings indicated that optimizing application use can enhance guardians’ satisfaction, while recognizing that other determinants outside the application continue to exert substantial influence. These findings suggested that optimizing the app's use can increase the satisfaction of students’ guardians, while acknowledging that other factors beyond the app still have a significant influence. This study offers concrete managerial implications by identifying priority areas for improvement, particularly regarding system accessibility, information completeness, and feature optimization, thereby enabling boarding school administrators to design digital service strategies that are more responsive, integrated, and user-oriented.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze patterns of habituation in affective education and the modeling processes used to instill moral values in developing students’ noble character at Elementary School. This research employed a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through passive participatory observation, unstructured interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using data reduction, data display, and verification techniques, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The results showed these practices are not entirely new, but rather represent a reconstruction of previously implemented affective education programs, which have been evaluated and refined to enhance their effectiveness. This reconstruction process involved continuous improvement based on observed outcomes, allowing schools to adjust strategies in habituation and modeling to better support students’ character development that  habituation activities were systematically implemented on a daily and weekly basis, including practices such as timely worship without coercion, recitation of Asmaul Husna, congregational prayers, handshaking, and maintaining classroom cleanliness, which foster students’ awareness of religious obligations and social responsibility; and  modeling strategies are carried out through teacher-led activities such as tartil and Qur’an memorization sessions, Duha prayers, and “Clean Friday” programs, which contribute to the development of students’ discipline in worship and moral behavior both in school and in the community. The implications of this study indicated that the integration of habituation and modeling strategies in affective education plays a significant role in strengthening students’ moral character.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how the teaching of Mafahim Yajibu an-Tushahhah in a pesantren context contributes to the formation of Aswaja-oriented ulama cadres. The study is grounded in the urgent need to strengthen moderate Islamic education in Indonesia amid increasing ideological polarization, religious exclusivism, and digital exposure to intolerant narratives. Pesantren are strategically positioned as educational ecosystems that integrate classical scholarship, moral formation, and community-based religious leadership. This research employed a qualitative approach using a single instrumental case study. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, and were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings reveal three main results. First, the instructional design of Mafahim learning is systematically structured through prerequisite-based curriculum placement, textual literacy, and the formation of manhajul fikr. Second, its implementation is characterized by dialogical-critical pedagogy, five pedagogical principles, comparative textual analysis, and reflective student outputs. Third, the learning process produces integrated graduate competencies, including theological reasoning, moderation, tolerance, mentoring capacity, and socially responsive religious communication. This study contributes to Islamic education scholarship by proposing a classical text-based moderation pedagogy and recommends that pesantren strengthen progressive curriculum design, dialogical instruction, and competency-based evaluation.
