Abstract

This study aims to examine the instructional strategies used in teaching fiqh mawarits (Islamic inheritance law) at Maktab Nubdzat al-Bayan (Maktuba), a pesantren-based institution within the Syafi‘i tradition. The research employs a qualitative case study approach, collecting data through observations, analysis of primary teaching texts (Nadhm al-Rahbiyah and Khulashat al-Kalam), and documentation of assessment procedures. The findings reveal that Maktuba's curriculum is systematically structured based on classical texts, covering topics such as heir classification, computational methods, and exceptional cases. Pedagogically, Maktuba combines traditional pesantren methods (sorogan, bandongan, memorization, musyawarah, and i‘lan) with contemporary instructional theories like scaffolding, explicit instruction, and cognitive load management. Additionally, its evaluation system includes written and oral exams, memorization assessments, and performative i‘lan, measuring cognitive, procedural, and communicative competencies. This study highlights that the pedagogical model at Maktuba integrates classical Islamic scholarship with modern educational methods, demonstrating that pesantren-based teaching can maintain epistemic rigor while adapting to contemporary needs in Islamic legal education.

Abstract

This study seeks to understand how the integration of Islamic studies is negotiated in health sciences education by examining the interaction between curricular intentions and teaching practices in everyday learning contexts. The study adopts a qualitative case study design. Data were generated through semi structured interviews with lecturers and academic managers, supported by analysis of curriculum documents and direct observation of classroom activities. The collected data were examined through thematic interpretation to capture how integrative decisions are formed and enacted. The findings show that while Islamic perspectives are formally acknowledged within curriculum frameworks, their realization in classroom instruction varies considerably. Lecturers interpret integrative goals in diverse ways, balancing religious values with professional competencies, disciplinary standards, and practical teaching constraints. As a result, integration emerges through selective emphasis, adaptation, and compromise rather than uniform application. The study concludes that integrating Islamic studies into health sciences education is best understood as a negotiated and evolving process. Sustainable integration requires institutional strategies that recognize pedagogical diversity and support lecturers in aligning religious perspectives with professional learning objectives.

Abstract

This study examines the effects of professional competence, organizational commitment, and teacher readiness on teacher performance in implementing the Kurikulum Merdeka. A quantitative research design was employed, involving 119 teachers of MAN in East Java as respondents. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS. The findings reveal that professional competence and teacher readiness have positive, significant direct effects on teacher performance, whereas organizational commitment does not. However, professional competence and organizational commitment both significantly affect teacher readiness, which in turn mediates their influence on teacher performance. These results indicate that teacher readiness plays a crucial mediating role in strengthening performance outcomes. The study implies that improving teacher performance in implementing the Kurikulum Merdeka requires strategic efforts to enhance professional competence and foster organizational conditions that build teachers’ readiness, including supportive work environments, clear role expectations, and a constructive organizational climate.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the influence of religious character education, dual system education, and ICT mastery on the competitiveness of vocational high school graduates. The approach used was a mixed methods with an Explanatory Sequential Design. The quantitative stage was conducted on a sample of 120 graduates from a population of 250 people, analyzed using SEM-PLS. The qualitative stage was conducted through in-depth interviews with productive teachers, graduates, and IDUKA. Data were analyzed thematically using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana approach, and assisted by NVivo 15 through Project Map, Treemap, Sunburst, and Word Cloud visualizations to strengthen meta-inference. The quantitative results showed that all variables have a significant effect on competitiveness. PSG had the largest direct effect (β = 0.209), as well as an indirect effect through ICT mastery (β = 0.112). ICT mastery also acted as a strong mediating variable (β = 0.288), while religious character education also had a significant influence (β = 0.243). These findings confirmed that religious values such as honesty and responsibility are the foundation of a professional work ethic; PSG served as a medium for shaping work attitudes through direct experience; and ICT mastery was considered a key adaptive skill in the digital era. This study demonstrated the implications of the competitiveness of graduates formed from the synergy between moral values, vocational experience, and digital skills. This study provided theoretical and practical contributions by expanding the theories of character education (Lickona), experiential learning (Kolb), and digital literacy (Gilster and UNESCO ICT-CFT) towards the profile of 21st-century graduates who were religious, productive, and adaptive.

Abstract

This study aims to address the urgency of reconstructing the Islamic Religious Education (IRE) curriculum based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and aims to develop a comprehensive framework that aligns with the digital needs of students in the era of Society 5.0. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study type involving 19 informants consisting of IRE teachers, students, Deputy Heads of Curriculum, and Madrasah Principals. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis, then analyzed using the Braun and Clarke thematic analysis framework with validation through triangulation and member checking. The results of the study indicate that the previous IRE curriculum, which focused on memorization and teacher-centered teaching, created a significant gap between students' cognitive knowledge and their ability to apply Islamic values in a digital context. The proposed AI-based curriculum reconstruction includes three interrelated components: Basic Analysis (evaluating the previous curriculum gaps and AI resource needs), Pedagogical Transformation (redesigning methods through a blended learning model), and Systemic Integration (AI-based implementation strategies and evaluation systems). Ongoing challenges include teachers' limited AI competency, inadequate infrastructure, and ethical concerns regarding the preservation of Islamic values. This model offers a scalable blueprint for madrasas navigating digital transformation while preserving the spiritual essence of Islamic education in the era of Society 5.0.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the structure and level of Islamic character education among students of State Islamic Higher Education Institutions in Indonesia. Islamic character education plays an important role in shaping students’ religious identity and ethical behavior in Islamic higher education. However, empirical studies examining its multidimensional structure and the contribution of each dimension remain limited. This research used a quantitative survey approach involving PTKIN students from Jakarta, West Java, and Banten. Data were analyzed using Second-Order Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) within the Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) framework. The findings show that the overall level of Islamic character education among students is moderate to high, indicating that Islamic values have been reasonably internalized in students’ academic and social lives. All five dimensions significantly contribute to the construct, with love of knowledge emerging as the most dominant factor, followed by obedience and compliance, spirituality, moral and ethical values, and social responsibility. These findings highlight the importance of intellectual orientation and academic culture alongside religious practices and moral values. This study contributes to the conceptual understanding of Islamic character education and recommends strengthening integrative character education through academic culture, religious activities, and student social engagement in institutions.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of Islamic moral habituation programs on the development of self-control and moral responsibility among primary school students in Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan, Indonesia. This study employed a quantitative survey design. Data analysis used Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares (PLS-SEM) through SmartPLS 4. The study involved 200 students from Grades 4 and 5 across six Islamic primary schools. Three latent variables consisted of Islamic moral habituation (exogenous; 7 dimensions, 24 items), self-control (first endogenous; 5 dimensions, 20 items), and moral responsibility (second endogenous; 5 dimensions, 25 items). The structural model revealed that Islamic moral habituation had a significant positive effect on self-control (β = 0.469, t = 7.44, p < 0.001) and on moral responsibility (β = 0.542, t = 7.953, p < 0.001). The model demonstrated predictive relevance (Q² = 0.191 and 0.262) and explanatory power (R² = 0.22 and 0.294) with acceptable model fit (SRMR = 0.071). These findings confirmed that structured Islamic moral habituation served as a meaningful predictor of character development outcomes among primary school learners. The implication of this finding is that Islamic moral habits are effective in increasing students' self-control and responsibility, so they need to be implemented routinely by teachers as an important part of character education in Islamic primary schools.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the practice of active tolerance in the multicultural school in Bengkulu City. The school is known, for its diversity, being a multicultural institution with students of diverse ethnicities and religions. This research employed a qualitative research with a case study design involving school principals, Islamic teachers, students, and parents of students at SMA Sint Carolus, Bengkulu City. Data were collected through participatory observation to understand school interactions, in-depth interviews, and document analysis to understand the school's curriculum and religious materials. Using qualitative research methods with a field research approach provides more space to explore the implementation of active tolerance more deeply in Catholic schools. This study showed that the implementation of three strategic efforts, the Dual Lens Curriculum, the Empathy Circle Forum, and the Communal Solution Project, significantly transformed students' character from passive tolerance to inclusive active tolerance. The findings revealed that strengthening cognitive flexibility through multi-perspective materials and developing radical empathy in a safe encounter space successfully broke down prejudice and primordial barriers in multicultural schools. The implications of this research emphasized the importance of synergy between schools and families. This research proved that respect for self-identity rooted in the home was the main key in building organic solidarity and sustainable harmony in Bumi Rafflesia.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the acceleration of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) through the implementation of the Tri-Dimensional Harmony model (Theo-Synergy, Socio-Nationalist, and Managerial-Harmonious). The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with the facilitator team, and documentation of the project modules. The results showed that the Tri-Dimensional Harmony model successfully integrated Islamic spiritual values with Pancasila character systematically through three strategic steps: redesigning modules based on the integration of Kauniyah verses, forming a collaborative interdisciplinary facilitator team, and implementing Civic-Religious Engagement as a form of concrete community action. These findings proved that harmonization of managerial aspects and religious substance can increase the effectiveness of achieving student profile dimensions without obscuring the institutional identity. The implications of this study emphasized the importance of contextual curriculum orchestration for Islamic-based schools to accelerate the achievement of the Independent Curriculum targets. This model can be a managerial reference for similar educational institutions in managing character projects that were holistic, measurable, and have a wide impact.
