Abstract

Hemostasis is the process of stopping bleeding from a damaged blood vessel. When bleeding occurs, the body will naturally respond with a hemostatic mechanism to stop the bleeding. Indonesian people have long used plants in medicine, one of which is sambang darah (Excoecaria cochinchinensis L) plant. Sambang darah has a chemical compound that is thought to stop bleeding. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential of sambang darah filtrate to reduce the bleeding time in skin wounds of white rats (Rattus norvegicus). This study is a pre-experimental study with a static group comparison approach. The number of experimental units in this study were 10 white rats which were divided into treatment group and control group. Data analysis used the Independent Sample T Test. The results showed that the average of bleeding time in the skin wounds of white rats without drops of sambang darah leaf filtrate was 252 seconds. While the average of bleeding time in the skin wounds of white rats with drops of sambang darah leaf filtrate is 163 seconds. The conclusion of this study is sambang darah (Excoecaria cochinchinensis L) leaf filtrate have a potential to reduce the bleeding time in the skin wounds of white rats (Rattus norvegicus).

Abstract

Abstract

Leukocytes play a role in the body's defense system. Counting the number of leukocytes can be done manually using turk solution. Glacial acetic acid in turk solution functions to lyse erythrocytes but this compound is included in compounds that are carcinogenic. There is a natural ingredient that can lyse blood cells other than leukocytes, namely Cermai fruit. Cermai fruit contains a weak acid, namely citric acid of 39,8% so that it can lyse blood cells other than leukocytes. This study aims to analyze the difference in the number of leukocytes in cermai fruit juice and turk solution. This type of research is experimental with simple random sampling technique. The sample of this research is cermai fruit which will be used to count the number of leukocytes in 10 respondents. The mean number of leukocytes in the control solution was 6.610 cells/mm3, 10% concentration 4.296 cells/mm3, 20% concentration 4.227 cells/mm3, 30% concentration 5.918 cells/mm3 and 100% concentration 5.745 cells/mm3. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal Wallis test and the sig. 0.001 <0,05 so H1 is accepted, which means there is a significant difference, so it is continued with the Post Hoc test. Post hoc test showed that there was no significant difference in the results of leukocyte counts using cermai fruit with concentrations of 30% and 100% compared to the control (p>0,05). Meaning that only the concentrations of 30% and 100% showed the suitability of the number of leukocytes with the control so that these concentrations could be used as an alternative to 3% glacial acetic acid in turksolution.

Abstract

Background: Sepsis can affect all age, but is most common in young infants and neonates. Young infants and neonates are more susceptible to infection because their immune systems are immature, unable to localize infections, and lack the IgM needed to protect the body against bacterial infections. When experiencing neonatal sepsis, there is often an increase in leukocytes in response to infection and inflammation, where inflammation can also cause a decrease in albumin in the blood. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between albumin levels and leukocyte counts in the incidence of neonatal sepsis. Methods: The research method used analytic correlation with a cross sectional approach. A sample of 31 patients with neonatal sepsis who were treated at Waluyo Jati hospital, Probolinggo Regency in December 2022 - April 2023 were sampled using saturation sampling method. Results: The results of the study on neonatal sepsis based on laboratory examinations mostly occurred in conditions of leukocytosis (45.2%) and hypoalbuminemia (77.4%), while the results of the study based on Pearson correlation test analysis obtained a significant value (p) of 0.737 (α=0.05). Conclusion: there is no relationship between albumin levels and leukocyte counts in neonatal sepsis.

Abstract

Fresh fish can experience spoilage due to the activity of enzymes and microorganisms contained in the body of the fish itself due to the oxidation process in body fat by air. The body of the fish contains water which is quite high, namely 60-80% and has a pH of 7.2 so that it can be a good medium for the growth of putrefactive bacteria. Preservation methods are carried out to reduce the presence of spoilage alternatif preservation can be done, among others, by salting, cooling, drying, and smoking. Excess fumigation contains phenol which can function as an anti-microbial so that microbes will die and not develop. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between long storage of smoked tuna (Euthynmus affinis) and the presence of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The sample in this study were 12 samples of smoked cob fish which were sold in the traditional markets of the ballpark and the sampling technique used was random sampling. This type of research was experimentally analyzed using the Kruskall Wallis test. The results of the study of 12 samples of tuna that contained Staphylococcus aureus bacteria concluded that there was a relationship between storage duration of smoked tuna (Euthynmus affinis) and the presence of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 is a metabolic disorder condition characterized by hyperglycemia, due to decreased insulin secretion. Many cytokines play a role in the acute phase response, so that markers such as CRP increase in patients with type 2 DM. The type of research used in this study is descriptive research, which describes the results of CRP examination in patients with type 2 diabetes. Examination of respondents' serum C-Reactive Protein (CRP) levels was carried out qualitatively using the Latex Agglutination method and followed by a semi-quantitative method, namely dilution to determine the level of inflammation. The results of CRP examination on 30 serum samples that have been carried out on patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus found that 29 (96.7%) were positive and 1 (3.3%) of respondents were negative. The group of CRP levels for titer 12 was 5 samples (16.7%), titer 24 was 17 samples (56.7%), titer 48 was 5 samples (16.7%), and titer 96 was 2 samples (6.7). %). The results of the four groups with the highest CRP levels, namely a titer of 24 mg/L as many as 17 samples (56.7%) showed that some of the CRP levels were higher than normal. Conclusion Almost all respondents with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus had positive C-Reactive Protein examination results and a small proportion of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients had negative C-Reactive Protein examination results.

Abstract

Toxoplasmosis is an infection caused by a single-celled parasite called Toxoplasma gondii.  Infection is most commonly acquired from contact with cats and their feces or raw or undercooked meat. There are several risk factors that favor the occurrence of this infection including the presence of cats in the residence, cleaning of pet litter boxes, hand washing habits and consumption of raw or undercooked food. Petshop is a retail business that sells a variety of pets and also sells pet food, accessories, animal care and maintenance. The purpose of this study was to determine the exposure to toxoplasmosis with the results of Toxoplasma gondii IgG antibody examination and Toxoplasma gondii IgM antibody in petshop staff. This study is a descriptive study using cross sectional method with 25 respondents from petshop staff. The test method for toxoplasmosis detection used was Rapid (Immunochromatography). The data analysis technique used was univariate analysis to determine the percentage of seropositive results of Toxoplasma gondii IgG antibodies and Toxoplasma gondii IgM antibodies. Based on the results of the study obtained data 11 respondents seropositive anti-toxo IgG, 14 respondents did not have anti-toxo IgG and anti-toxo IgM and there were no respondents with positive anti-toxo IgM in Petshop officers. Therefore it can be concluded that 11 out of 25 respondents have been infected with Toxoplasma gondii.
