Abstract

Introduction: The global prevalence of knee osteoarthritis in older adults is expected to continue to increase until 2050. This increase was consistent with the prevalence rates in Malang. This progression is simultaneously controlled by Sustainable Development Goals. This service is a measure to support the government in the early detection of severity and education of knee osteoarthritis patients. Methods: The method was adopted through Community-Based Participatory Research at Puskesmas Pandanwangi, Malang. The respondents included 58 elderly people with symptoms of knee osteoarthritis. According to the Indonesian Rheumatology Association, the symptoms often experienced in Indonesia are pain, crepitus when moved, joint stiffness for more than 30 min, indications of enlargement of the knee area, tenderness of the bone edge, and no warmth in the synovium area. Results: The results of the average mapping show that respondents experienced knee osteoarthritis severity in the mild category or had a Laquesne index score of more than 1-4. Conclusion: The severity of osteoarthritis in Pandanwangi is influenced by age and body mass index. These respondents were educated on sitting up and down, stair step up, knee flexion, heel slide knee extension, and tight booster exercises to prevent severity at the next level. Exercise parameters were adjusted according to the respondent's condition for 8-12 weeks, 2-3 sessions per week.

Abstract

Introduction: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the highest cause of death due to non-communicable diseases in Indonesia. This condition is certainly very worrying, because the trend of NCDs is increasing followed by a shift in disease patterns, where previously NCDs were experienced by the elderly group, are now starting to threaten younger age groups. Public awareness of NCD risk factors needs to be increased. This requires community participation in PTM (penyakit tidak menular) integrated development activities (Posbindu). Posbindu PTM is an activity for early detection and monitoring of the main risk factors for PTM through community participation. The aim of this activity is cadre training and the establishment of a mesque-based Posbindu PTM. Methods: The method used is Asset Based Community Development (ABCD). The ABCD method is a service method that focuses on the strengths and capacities of local communities. The establishment of the PTM Posbindu was carried out at the Aisyah Abdul Latif Farah Mosque, Namorambe District, Deli Serdang Regency. There were 10 cadres recruited at Posbindu PTM Mosque. Results: The results of the establishment of the mask-based PTM Posbindu are expected to be able to detect PTM risk factors as early as possible and reduce the number of PTM congregants at mosques in particular and society in general. Conclusion: The socialization and formation of the mosque-based Posbindu PTM received positive support from the Deli Serdang Health Service and the Aisyah Abdul Latif Farah Mosque.

Abstract

Introduction: Dementia can cause disability, in addition to physical, mental, and financial stress for caregivers, and affect the nation’s healthcare system and economy. Efforts are needed to improve the quality of life of people with dementia involving various sectors, especially elderly cadres. Elderly cadres are volunteers who provide screening and health education for elderly persons at the community level. Accordingly, it is crucial to identify the knowledge levels about dementia in elderly cadres to improve public awareness and interventions concerning this topic. This study aimed to determine the level of knowledge of elderly cadres about dementia. Methods: This quantitative study was conducted with a cross-sectional design. There were 103 elderly cadres recruited using convenience sampling from November to December 2022. A demographic questionnaire and Dementia Knowledge Assessment Scale (DKAS) were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed using Spearman’s rho and Mann Whitney with significance set as p < 0.05. Results: The median score of the elderly cadres’ knowledge score was 22 (minimum-maximum = 0-44). Elderly cadres’ knowledge was related significantly to training about dementia (p = .002). There was no significant correlation between elderly cadres' knowledge and age (p = .271), gender (p = .073), and education level (p = .106). Conclusions: In general, the knowledge of elderly cadres about dementia is relatively low. However, there was a significant change in knowledge scores after dementia training, so a program to increase understanding about dementia through training is recommended for elderly cadres.

Abstract

Introduction: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) contribute to 74% of global mortality and are responsible for 73% of national casualties. It had been predicted that in 2024, the number of patients with NCDs in Indonesia will be around 92 million people, and among others, hypertension and diabetes mellitus (DM) are significant health burdens in this country. This paper presents a community service activity aimed at screening for NCDs in Sana Village, Sragen Regency, Central Java Province, Indonesia. Methods: An integrated assisted post (Posbindu)was held for early detection and to monitor the main risk factors of NCDs, particularly hypertension and DM. Fifty working-age adults from the Sana village were targeted to attend the Posbindu. Blood pressure and blood glucose levels were measured, followed by treatment and health counseling by the medical students, Mondokan health center officers, and local midwives. Results: The activity was well appreciated by the local community, with a participation rate of 226% (113 attendees out of 50 people targeted), consisting of 22 men and 91 women aged 22–93 years old. Hypertension and DM were detected in 61.9% (70/113) and 5.3% (6/113) participants. Conclusion: The high prevalence of NCDs, particularly hypertension, highlights the importance of maintaining physical fitness and carrying out health checks regularly. Thus, NCD screening through Posbindu is expected to be sustainable.

Abstract

Introduction: Noise exposure is a problem in children due to the vulnerability of the growing auditory system and its impact on hearing and quality of life during early developmental phases, which might influence a child's future path. Children have different external ear anatomy than adults, with narrower ear canals that absorb higher-frequency sounds. Hearing loss can be minimized by implementing educational programs, regulations, and laws to increase awareness and proactively limit damage from noise. This article will describe the noise awareness empowerment programs for parents of Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal (ABA) Kentungan Kindergarten in Yogyakarta. Methods: The community empowerment program collaborator is Pimpinan Ranting Aisyiyah (PRA) Condongcatur Barat, and it includes approximately 24 parents of ABA Kentungan Kindergarten students. Results: The program's results indicated that the average score of participants' knowledge before the program started was 51.6 out of 100. The average score increased to 82.9 after the program. Conclusion: The community empowerment team recommends that all parents understand the importance of protecting children's environment from excessive noise exposure. Furthermore, teachers can help by providing a suitable environment and encouraging safer listening habits with Personal Listening Devices (PLDs). The government should initiate campaigns to increase public awareness of excessive noise exposure and regulate the standard volume of toys and sleep machines for newborns and children.
