Abstract

The public awareness of the importance of quality of life is formed by making functional food an alternative to improve health. The availability of abundant Sonneratia sp. or pada mangrove fruit and good metabolite content make pada fruit an alternative functional food, including dried fruit candy and kombucha. This activity aims to increase scientific knowledge and the application of appropriate technology through education and training in diversifying pada fruit as a functional food. This activity was conducted on July 31-August 12, 2024, at SMAN 1 Tarakan. The method of this activity consists of three stages. The first is delivering educational material related to introducing mangrove fruit types and their potential as functional food. The second stage is training and assistance in making pada fruit candy and kombucha. The third stage is evaluation and monitoring at the end of the activity to determine the partner's understanding and success. This training activity shows that partners understand that pada fruit from various mangrove plants in the North Kalimantan region can be directly used as a functional food. The training phase produced dried candied pada and three types of kombucha derived from green tea, butterfly pea flower tea and rosella flower tea. In the evaluation process of the activity, the obstacles identified were the desired carbonation level in kombucha and the shelf life of candied fruit. The training increased partners' insight by 80% into utilizing pada in creative and innovative health products (kombucha and candied fruit).

Abstract

The production of high-quality mushroom seeds is a crucial aspect in supporting the growth of the oyster mushroom industry in Indonesia. The demand for sterile and contamination-free seeds is increasing along with the growth of the mushroom farming sector in various regions. However, the main challenge faced by farmers is the limitation of efficient sterilization technology for growing media, which affects the quality of seedlings and mushroom production yields. The Community Partnership Empowerment (PKM) funded by the 2024 Kemenristek Dikti Grant focuses on enhancing the capacity and skills of mushroom farmers in Subur Jaya through the introduction and training in the use of smart autoclaves. The service method includes three main stages: (1) socialization to introduce smart autoclave technology to farmers; (2) training on the operation and maintenance of the smart autoclave; and (3) assistance in the application of technology over several cycles of mushroom seed production. The implementation of the smart autoclave not only enhances the knowledge and skills of the partners but also increases the number of mushroom farmers involved in PKT. Subur Jaya has grown and is no longer dependent on other regions for mushroom seed supplies. The smart autoclave technology that provides temperature and air pressure control according to production needs can reduce microbial growth, thereby minimizing harvest failures by up to 30%. The community service activity was successfully carried out as planned, and the implementation of a smart autoclave improved the quality of mushroom seedlings.

Abstract

Dengue fever (DF) is a global health problem. The epidemiology of dengue fever in Indonesia varies but continues to increase. Dengue fever itself is caused by the Aedes aegypti (Linn.) mosquito. Indonesia's tropical geographical location provides conditions that support the breeding of disease-carrying mosquitoes. This demonstrates the urgency with which disease-carrying mosquito eradication must be carried out. Currently, mosquito control strategies rely on the use of chemical drugs to control mosquitoes, which often cause side effects. Therefore, many mosquito repellents have been developed based on natural ingredients. Cymbopogon nardus, the plant that yields citronella essential oil, is one of them. The purpose of this PkM project is to increase knowledge regarding the benefits of citronella oil. In addition, it also improves the skills of participants to produce citronella oil as an anti-repellent. This training method is a combination of lectures, demonstrations, and practical actions. Participants will be given counseling regarding the benefits of citronella oil for health. The making of roll-on preparations begins with watching tutorials and live demonstrations by the team which are then followed by the participants. The results of this activity showed an increase in participants' knowledge and skills in making lemongrass aromatherapy roll-on preparations. This can be seen in the PkM product in the form of a roll-on aromatherapy preparation that has a distinctive lemongrass aroma, warm and stable at room temperature. Participants can also plan to make roll-on preparations using other essential oils. The knowledge gained is expected to be developed by participants as entrepreneurial capital. The community service activities were carried out smoothly and according to target. The PkM team succeeded in increasing the knowledge and skills of the participants through PkM activities.
