Abstract

Increasing income in vegetable farming through the use of organic fertilizers as an alternative to the use of inorganic fertilizers has become increasingly prevalent. The limited capital owned, as well as the availability of animal and plant organic materials around farmers, are valuable potentials for making organic fertilizers. This activity aims to conduct counseling, manufacture, and use of organic fertilizers on vegetable farms to increase farmers' income.  Activities were carried out in a participatory manner at the location of Rukun Tetangga 30 and Bethesda Farmers Group in two training periods. The training target is to increase the knowledge and skills of the partner community. The results of participatory training obtained community knowledge about the function of organic fertilizer, how to make it increase, and how to apply it to vegetable increase. The profit earned from one time making organic fertilizer is Rp. 658,000. There was an increase in vegetable production in response to the application of organic fertilizer by 10-20%, and additional income increased by 20%.

Abstract

Agriculture in Sumedang Regency is the main livelihood, but the continuous use of synthetic fertilizers has caused environmental damage. The solution comes through liquid organic fertilizers from local ingredients, such as banana stump and bamboo shoots, which have a positive impact in triggering plant growth. The organic fertilizer-making training program in Cilembu Village, Sumedang Regency, is part of the CSR initiative to improve agricultural yields and farmers' independence. The target audience of this liquid organic fertilizer making training activity is the Pangkalan Farmer Group located in Cilembu Village, Pamulihan District, Sumedang Regency, which was held on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. The method of this activity is counseling and practice with expert speakers from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry UNPAD. Liquid organic fertilizer has a vital role in improving soil quality and providing plant nutrients. Despite its advantages, liquid organic fertilizer also has disadvantages, such as the low viability of microorganisms in it and limited nutrient content. The socialization of organic fertilizer production in Cilembu Village is expected to help the community utilize local resources and overcome the challenge of expensive fertilizer prices.

Abstract

In general, the potential for dry land in North Lombok Regency is very broad with low river water potential, including in Salut Village. This village is a fairly large area of dry land and is a hilly area that has the potential to be used as agricultural land for horticultural crops. There is no surface water potential in this area and the only existing water source is groundwater, namely from deep groundwater wells. So the existing land has the potential to be used for farming seasonal crops such as chilies, tomatoes and others. However, because of the people's habit of carrying out agricultural activities in the rainy season, the land in the dry season is left idle. To increase land use in the dry season, it is necessary to encourage the creation of horticultural planting land so that in the dry season people can cultivate these crops. The aim of this service is knowledge and improving residents' skills in creating horticultural agricultural land for farming in the dry season using drip irrigation. This service stage consists of field inspection and outreach, land preparation practices and planting areas, preparation and installation of drip irrigation, discussions and questions and answers as well as evaluation. Finally, the community service has succeeded in training 7 community representatives in creating horticultural planting areas, such as clearing land, plowing, making plots and making beds. Participants were able to make planting beds because the plots of planting land were smaller and knew how to make and install drip irrigation in raised beds, and knew how to obtain and maintain it. The activity evaluation was carried out by the service team, when they saw the results of the land preparation during the implementation process by looking at their seriousness, the participants understood and gained additional knowledge in preparing planting land and installing drip irrigation networks on the land.

Abstract

The Ornamental Grass Waste Bank (BSRH) is an institution with a cooperative legal entity, the establishment of which is facilitated by the Pontianak City Government through the Pontianak City Environmental Service. Until now, BSRH has focused more on managing inorganic waste in handicraft materials, decorations, and souvenirs. Meanwhile, some organic wastes are processed into organic fertilizers. The obstacle faced by the BSRH is the non-optimal management of organic waste into fertilizer because of the lack of skilled personnel in processing waste into organic fertilizer.  This PKM activity aims to transfer knowledge about organic waste processing using effective decomposing microorganisms. The implementation method used in this activity consists of three stages: preparation, implementation and training, and monitoring and evaluation. Based on the results of the activities that were carried out, it was found that all BSRH members who participated in the training and practice of making bokashi from organic waste gained new understanding and knowledge in utilizing organic waste as bokashi fertilizer and interest in applying it in the future. From the questionnaire given, data showed that 80% of BSRH members had never participated in similar activities, while all BSRH members (100%) stated that the training activity on making bokashi fertilizer from organic waste was useful, providing new knowledge and interest in its application. This training and practice of making bokashi fertilizer can provide knowledge and skills for solving problems regarding organic waste in the surrounding environment into more useful materials.

Abstract

Suli village is one of the areas in Maluku Islands which has natural resources and high water aesthetic value so that it is used as an ecotourism area both domestically and internationally. However, currently the potential of its waters is experiencing a decline in population due to the activities of local communities. One of them is excessive fishing of marine ornamental fish for market purposes and food needs. One type of marine ornamental fish that is caught is the giru clownfish (Amphiprion clarkii). To preserve this type of ornamental fish, conservation efforts are needed so that it remains sustainable and conserved. One of them is restocking to increase fish stocks in nature. In this regard, the service team as part of environmental and fisheries observers felt it was necessary to carry out the activities. This activity began with cultivation phase Ambon Sea Aquaculture Fisheries Center, coordinating situation analysis in the waters of Suli, surveying restocking locations and restocking activities and then monitoring and evaluation. The results of this activity show that the service team succeeded in cultivating giru clownfish from 3 pairs of broodstocks and produced fry four times after hatching. The results of seed maintenance were followed by restocking as many 600 individual giru clownfish seeds measuring 5 cm at three spots. Based on monitoring and evaluation results, the fish seeds are able to adapt and survive in different environmental conditions. Thus, conservation efforts are needed through continue restocking of ornamental fish to maintain resource potential and increase opportunities for sustainable ecotourism.

Abstract

The development of social media with all its creativity can be used as a strategy to strengthen local cultural products which are starting to be marginalized in today's modern era. The practice of playing gamelan musical instruments, which is synonymous with musical culture, especially among Javanese people, has become increasingly marginalized over time.  In fact, traditional art is actually one of the riches of the Indonesian nation. This Community Service activity aims to encourage residents in Kanoman Hamlet, Yogyakarta, to survive and at the same time pioneer a movement in maintaining the traditional art of karawitan which is full of historical and philosophical values using lecture, discussion and direct mentoring methods. This activity was carried out in January 2024 with a total of 60 participants, including involving one of the arts activist groups at that location. It is hoped that the results of the activities will be sustainable in forming a cultural icon of Kanoman Hamlet. The consistency of residents in these places must also be optimized through potential social media management, especially through packaging narrative messages and creating contemporary audio-visual content. So real contributions from all parties are really needed, so that the musical culture itself can continue to exist so that it is able to compete in the global world.

Abstract

The majority of the residents of Barabatu village in Labbakkang District, Pangkep, are farmers. The farmers' income is heavily dependent on their harvests, which causes the village's economy to rely significantly on the harvest seasons. Therefore, additional income is needed to improve the welfare of Barabatu villagers. Citronella plants grow abundantly in the residents' yards, and there are productive citronella plantations developed by members of the religious study group, which have great potential for creating disinfectant products from citronella to support the local economy. Citronella has antimicrobial and antifungal properties, making it effective and safe for use as a floor cleaner. The aim of this community service program (PKM) is to enhance the creativity and productivity of Barabatu villagers. Furthermore, it is hoped that through this PKM activity, residents will acquire skills in making citronella disinfectant, which can be developed into a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) to support their economy. In the production of disinfectant from citronella, the method used by the PKM team from FTI-UMI involves presenting materials on the ingredients and the process of making citronella disinfectant. This is followed by practical sessions involving farmer groups and the women of the religious study group. The final stage includes evaluating and monitoring the PKM activities conducted in Barabatu village. As a result of the PKM activities, the community, especially members of the religious study group, have become skilled in making citronella disinfectant. Additionally, they have gained knowledge about the benefits of natural ingredients available in their surroundings that can be used for disinfectant production. Following the training, the community is able to develop floor disinfectants with various aromas using essential oils from different types of plants found in Barabatu village. Consequently, the residents of Barabatu village can establish disinfectant production as an SME, providing additional income for the villagers. The PKM activities in Barabatu village have had a positive impact on the residents' economic lives through the guidance of the religious study group members. This activity encourages the community to increase their creativity and fosters an entrepreneurial spirit among the villagers of Barabatu.
