Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries that has experienced a reduction in the incidence of stunting, from 30.8% in 2018 to 21% in 2022 and is targeted at 14% in 2024. Stunting is caused by a lack of nutritional intake in the first 1000 days of life. Based on a preliminary study in Sungai Besar Subdistrict, there is still a fairly high prevalence of babies below the red line which leads to stunting, which occurs at the age of 0 months to 4 years, as many as 17 toddlers. This community service aims to provide information and education regarding stunting and local food that can be used to prevent stunting with the hope of reducing stunting rates in the Sungai Besar subdistrict. Community service activities were carried out on April 30 2024 in the Sungai Besar Village Hall and via Zoom Meeting. Partners in this activity are PKK Sungai Besar cadres, Banjarbaru City. Information and education is provided using powerpoint and leaflet. The average pretest score of the participants was 6.375 while the posttest was 8. Based on the paired t-test, the significance value was 0.002 (<0.05), which shows that there is a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores regarding understanding stunting and local food that can be used as prevention of stunting. Based on the average pretest and posttest scores, the percentage increase in understanding was 20%. Through this community service, it is hoped that participants can make efforts to prevent and utilize local food so that the reduction in stunting rates can be increased. Based on the results of the service activities carried out, it was concluded that the information and education carried out were able to increase participants' knowledge and understanding regarding stunting and its prevention using local food.

Abstract

Drug abuse poses a significant threat to the future of the younger generation, encompassing narcotics, alcohol, psychotropic substances, and other addictive substances collectively referred to as NAPZA. Recent data from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) World Drug Report for 2023 indicates a consistent rise in drug abuse cases globally, with approximately 5.8% of individuals aged 15 to 64 reported to be involved in drug abuse. According to data from Badan Narkotika Nasional (BNN) in 2021, the village of Korong Gadang, situated in the Kuranji District of Padang City, West Sumatra, is classified as an area characterized by a drug abuse alert status. Addressing this issue is paramount, necessitating effective solutions to prevent drug abuse in this locality. One method to accomplish this is by conducting campaigns with groups of school-aged children, the nation's future, regarding drugs and their dangers. The objective of this project is to impart knowledge and educate children of school age concerning drugs and its dangers. Counseling is conducted via lecture by distributing educational materials pertaining to substances and their associated risks. In addition, pre-tests and post-tests were given prior and following to the lecture. The outcomes of this activity demonstrated that the counseling given could increase participants' awareness of drugs and their risks. As a result, counseling can be used as a viable strategy to prevent the distribution of narcotics, particularly among children of school age.

Abstract

The province of Gorontalo has the potential for waste generation reaching 246,397.112 tons, primarily from households (48 percent), traditional markets (24 percent), and commercial areas (9 percent). Of the 140 tons of waste produced daily in Gorontalo City, only 70 tons are transported by the Environmental Services Department to the Talumelito Regional Landfill, while the remainder is left without adequate management, resulting in environmental damage. The community service program through the Community Service Learning (KKN) in Infrastructure aims to enhance sustainable waste management in Leato Village. Activities will involve KKN students in educating the community on environmentally friendly waste management practices, conducting Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), forming community self-help groups, mapping waste issues in the environment, and developing collaborative solutions to improve cleanliness and sanitation. Results indicated that over four months, the program successfully increased community awareness of the importance of responsible waste management. Initial testing found that public knowledge of sustainable waste and settlement management was rated poorly at 46.38%. Attitudes and behaviors scored 49.45% and 48.00% respectively, also falling below acceptable criteria. Final testing revealed significant improvement, with community knowledge in Leato Utara scoring 67.25% for sustainable waste and settlement management, and attitudes and behaviors scoring 73.45% and 70.40% respectively, meeting acceptable standards. In conclusion, the Infrastructure KKN program has positively contributed to improving waste management and sanitation in Leato Village, paving the way for cleaner and healthier settlements.

Abstract

Nagari Sungai Dareh is a part of the Punjung Island District, West Sumatra which has a relatively flat topography and tropical climate. Most of the population works as farmers, so there are many rice planting areas. Problems faced by local farmers are blast and bacterial leaf blight disease attacks, while no appropriate control methods have been found. Therefore, this service was carried out which aims to increase farmers' knowledge about the symptoms and control of these two types of diseases. The equipment used in this activity includes stationery, projectors, presentation materials, and speakers. This service activity was carried out in 3 stages which included 1) Focus Group Discussion, 2) location survey and direct observation in rice cultivation fields, and 3) education and extension on the symptoms and control of blast and bacterial leaf blight diseases. During the presentation, farmers were enthusiastic in listening. Discussions took place well between the presenters and farmers. Blast disease is caused by the fungus Pyricularia oryzae, while bacterial leaf blight is caused by the bacterium Xanthomonas oryzae. Blast disease gives symptoms in the form of grayish-brown rhombic spots, while bacterial leaf blight symptoms are yellowing, pale, dry leaves starting from the tips, edges to spread to all parts of the leaf. Both diseases can be well controlled through the use of resistant varieties and improved cultivation techniques. The application of appropriate doses of N fertilizer can suppress blast and bacterial leaf blight attacks, because the higher the N applied causes the plant tissue to be softer, making it easily infected by fungi and bacteria. This activity succeeded in increasing farmers' knowledge about the symptoms of blast and crackle diseases and the best methods to suppress them.

Abstract

Technological advances make it possible to utilize natural resources efficiently. However, shortages occur when demand exceeds supply, making goods/services an economic object. This service aims to increase students' understanding of these concepts and provide provisions for them to face economic challenges in the future. Implementation of the activity began with a survey to determine the purpose of the school where this service activity was to be held. From the results of the survey we decided to carry out the service at SMAN Tamanan, followed by coordination with the teaching staff and submitting a permission letter from the campus for the service activity. A survey was conducted to determine student understanding, then a pre-test was carried out to assess initial understanding. Next, the material is delivered with discussion, followed by questions and answers to discuss concepts and review understanding. After that, a post-test was carried out to measure students' understanding after education, and continued with descriptive statistical analysis of the collected data. The results of this activity show a significant increase in students' understanding after receiving a comprehensive explanation. The pre-test and post-test showed an increase in student understanding, with 26% of students showing an increase in understanding after the socialization activities. This shows that this activity is effective in increasing students' understanding of the basic concepts of engineering and investment economics. Overall, this report shows that the use of technical economics at SMAN 1 Tamanan has succeeded in raising vocational teaching standards, preparing students to face the demands of the business world, and improving the local economy. These findings highlight the importance of incorporating engineering economics into vocational education curricula as well as the need to continue to foster the professional growth of students and administrators.

Abstract

This community service activity is motivated by the need for knowledge and skills and supports achieving the Independent Curriculum P5 Project for students. The P5 program is also designed to strengthen efforts to achieve competency and character according to the Pancasila Student Profile, which is prepared based on Graduate Competency Standards (SKL). The urgency of implementing the P5 Independent Curriculum still needs to be felt heavily. It is causing problems in the school environment, especially at Wahid Hasyim Glagah Lamongan Vocational School, regarding the readiness of teacher and educator resources. Therefore, the Hayam Wuruk Perbanas University implementation team provided this community outreach activity in the form of creative entrepreneurship training and assistance. The Merdeka P5 curriculum utilizes interactive learning methods and allows students to participate actively in the learning process. Creative entrepreneurship mentoring and training aims to explore students' potential, knowledge, and entrepreneurship skills that impact the surrounding community. This activity is designed in four stages, namely, the material preparation stage, entrepreneurship training, assistance with business activities, and processing and presenting the activity results. The implementation team prepares material in the preparation stage, which will be delivered at the training stage. At the training stage, material related to creative entrepreneurship will be presented, and two teams with the best business ideas will be selected. The final stage is the presentation of the results of activities in the form of reports related to the implementation of training and mentoring activities. Based on results, 67% of participants experienced an increase in test scores between the pre-test and post-test, 14% of the total participants had the same score, and the remaining 18% experienced a decrease in test scores. This shows that students' knowledge of entrepreneurship concepts, entrepreneurial activities, and basic Business Model Canvas (BMC) concepts increased after they received creative entrepreneurship training materials. Based on these results, the implementation of the training showed excellent and effective results because more than 50% of participants experienced an increase in knowledge. The training also produces business ideas from students, followed by realizing business ideas into business products. The students whose business ideas were selected were given entrepreneurial assistance related to the product preparation process, packaging design, marketing process, and simple financial record keeping.
