Abstract

Coastal areas have a relatively high diversity of aquatic organisms, including molluscs. The existence of molluscs has a significant role in maintaining environmental stability and supporting the socio-economic life of coastal communities. Coastal communities on Ambon Island often carry out mollusc utilization activities when seawater is low, which occurs in the morning, afternoon and evening. However, some also do it from evening to early morning. Using these molluscs can cause problems with the diversity and abundance of molluscs and their environmental habitat if carried out with high time intensity and volume of collection and using equipment that is not environmentally friendly. Based on these problems, it is necessary to carry out outreach activities for the younger generation, who are agents of change and successors of the nation, regarding the importance of the existence of mollusc resources in coastal areas for community life and the environment. This outreach activity is also part of the conservation character education that we want to provide from an early age. This activity is carried out through several stages: analyzing the problem and preparing and implementing activities. This service activity was attended by 50 students from class IX junior high school. Community service activities went well, and a very positive response was received from the participants. The success of this activity can also be seen from the participant's responses to the evaluation results before and after the activity, which showed a significant increase in their understanding and knowledge of the counselling material.

Abstract

The MEKARSARI program (from acronym in Bahasa Indonesia for Sustainable Model for Waste Management and Ranu Grati Empowerment) is a social initiative launched by PT INDONESIA POWER UBP GRATI in Desa Ranuklindungan, Grati District, Pasuruan Regency. The program was developed in response to serious environmental pollution caused by inadequate organic waste management, which has negatively impacted the ecosystem of Lake Ranu. In addition, the local fishery sector has struggled with high costs of commercial fish feed and poor water quality in fish cages due to the lack of aeration technology. The program aimed to address the dual challenge of poor organic waste management and support the local fishery sector by integrating Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggot bioconversion technology and renewable energy, particularly solar-powered systems. The approach involved needs assessment, community training in waste management, maggot-based fish feed production, and the use of renewable energy. Technology such as waste shredders and solar-powered aeration systems was implemented as part of the program. Monitoring and evaluation were conducted to measure the environmental and economic impacts. The program successfully reduced 8.9 tons of organic waste annually, corresponding to a reduction in CO₂ emissions by 8.9 tons per year. Additionally, farmers saved approximately IDR 300,000 per day through the production of maggot-based feed instead of relying on expensive commercial alternatives. Social participation also improved, and the initiative promoted a circular economy model. MEKARSARI emerged as an innovative solution that integrates waste management, fish feed production, and renewable energy, offering significant economic, social, and environmental benefits..

Abstract

Tiang Tara Village in Bakam District, Bangka Regency, has an area of 4,954 hectares with 61.6% used for oil palm plantations. The village faces various challenges in the agricultural sector, especially for oil palm smallholders who have difficulty competing in international markets, lack understanding of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), and face long supply chains. In addition, smallholders are also hampered by low socio-economic conditions, limited access to technology, and a lack of agricultural knowledge. This empowerment program aims to improve farmers' knowledge and skills through socialization, training, and mentoring in the application of GAP. The targets of this program include increased GAP knowledge and adoption of GAP practices by farmers. The program implementation methods included collaboration with various parties, socialization, intensive training, and technical assistance. Evaluation was conducted through questionnaires to measure the success of the program and obtain feedback from participants. The results showed that the majority of farmers were over 40 years old with low formal education, which affected their understanding of GAP. Currently, the average production of oil palm was still low and farmers' income was insufficient. Through this program, farmers' knowledge and skills in oil palm cultivation are improved, which is expected to increase the productivity and welfare of farmers in Tiang Tara Village.

Abstract

The eastern coastal communities of Bangka Island are vulnerable to ecological disasters. This is due to the destruction of mangrove forests in the area, one of which is the impact of tin mining activities. Mangroves play a role in mitigating the climate crisis. Therefore, efforts to rehabilitate damaged mangrove forests should be carried out massively. The problems currently faced by partners are: 1) Partners do not yet have the skills to rehabilitate mangrove multiplanting systems; and 2) Partners do not have knowledge regarding the multiplanting system. This activity aims to: 1) Help partners rehabilitate mangrove forests damaged by multiplanting systems with a high success rate; and 2) Restore the function of the mangrove forest ecosystem as a habitat for aquatic biota as a commodity caught by fishermen around the forest location. The outputs resulting from this activity are: 1) Increase in mangrove forest area using a multiplanting system; 2) Increasing community understanding and skills to conserve mangrove forests; and 3) Availability of mangrove nurseries. Implementation of PkM on the coast of Kekerjak Village and Batu Be Lubang Village. The activity method is participatory or involves the Kedetik and Batu Be Lubang Village Governments in the PkM stage which is focused on two activities, namely socialization and implementation of activities. As a result of the activities, the mangrove plants planted in the multiplanting system grew well. The planted plant seeds are protected with sacks filled with sand so they don't get washed away by the waves. Replacement is carried out for dead mangroves. Multiplanting system planting using more than one tree in one planting hole is expected to have better survival compared to one tree in one planting hole.

Abstract

Bacteriological examination, especially bacterial culture, is the gold standard for infectious diseases. The very limited availability of culture media encourages the use of alternative media, especially to see the presence of bacteria in the urine of patients with Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs). The price of semi-synthetic culture media is quite expensive and it is difficult for producers to obtain it in the North Maluku region, especially in Ternate City. The use of this alternative media is expected to provide direct benefits to detect the presence of bacteria through the urine of patients with UTIs and improve the knowledge and skills of ATLM cadres regarding the procedure for using alternative media. The use of tuna as one of the alternative media ingredients has not been optimal for the purposes of microbiology laboratory diagnostics. Carried out in the form of socialization which is implemented in the form of lectures, presentations of materials by the community service team with material on the use of alternative media for examining bacteria that cause UTIs. This activity also involves the activeness of participants by working on assessment worksheets and ending with a post-test activity. Abstract

High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) is a thinking process at a higher cognitive level, including the ability to solve problems, think creatively, think critically, argue and make decisions. This ability is expected to be possessed by students in the era of modernization and globalization of the 21st century. This achievement can occur if learning and assessment have implemented HOTS. However, in practice, many teachers still do not use HOTS questions to evaluate students in schools because of their low understanding of how to analyze and create HOTS questions according to Bloom's Taxonomy. This PkM activity aims to: 1) help partner groups increase insight and understanding regarding HOTS and its implementation in learning; 2) Helping partner groups improve skills in creating HOTS questions; and 3) meet the partners' needs for creating HOTS-based questions according to Bloom & Anderson-Krathwohl's Taxonomy independently. The methods used in this PKM are socialization of PKM activities, program preparation, implementation, mentoring and program monitoring and evaluation. The results that have been achieved are increasing partners' understanding of HOTS by 37.75%. This PKM activity can increase the knowledge and skills of madrasa stakeholders, especially teachers and staff. With independence in creating questions, teachers will better understand how questions can be connected to objectives and indicators, and in accordance with Bloom & Anderson-Krathwohl's Taxonomy and can improve teachers' ability to create questions independently, which will ultimately improve their skills in answering and analyze the questions.
