Abstract

Pokdakan Fajar Mina Sejahtera is a freshwater fish farming group in Taman Fajar Village, East Lampung Regency with tilapia and carp as the main commodities. The higher price of feed followed by the COVID-19 pandemic has caused the cessation of fish farming activities. Through Pengabbdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) or local community service activities, mentoring are carried out for Pokdakan to provide awareness of the importance of the sustainability of fish farming activities with the potential for abundant natural resources. This activity aims to revive fish farming activities with assistance in making feed independently and at low production costs. Feed producing is carried out by utilizing banana peel waste in local area using the Murtaseng method. The assistance of the program is carried out through three stages, namely preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The success of Pokdakan empowerment activities in herbal feed production reached 80%. The widespread information about this success has attracted local community in the production of herbal feed. This made the PkM implementation team create a follow-up concept to assist again for increasing the capacity of Pokdakan. This further assistance is more focused on business management. The Pokdakan Empowerment activity has resulted in the independence of the fish farming production process comprehensively. The sustainability of fish farming activities by Pokdakan of Fajar Mina Sejahtera is expected to trigger the creation of an independent community both economically, socially and food security.

Abstract

One of the problems of malnutrition that needs serious attention is stunting. This problem is so important that it requires proper handling. Stunting is a condition where a child's growth is stunted or fails. This is due to malnutrition that occurs early in a child's life. Stunting can affect a child's health and intelligence level. One way to prevent stunting is the provision of nutritious complementary foods (MPASI). Education can be done by providing knowledge about stunting and complementary feeding to the community, especially mothers. The purpose of this service is to provide an understanding of the importance of preventing stunting for children under five, as well as to provide an understanding that complementary foods can be made from local food ingredients that are nutritious and proper processing. The method used begins with a survey, the implementation of activities in the form of counseling using audiovisuals, demonstrations of making complementary foods and discussions. The results of the program showed that the community understands what stunting is, how to prevent stunting, what complementary food is, the right time and frequency to give complementary food, the stages of giving complementary food, local food to make complementary food, and advice on how to make easy and nutritious complementary food. Examples of complementary foods that can be given are purple sweet potato mud cake which is rich in antioxidant compounds and shrimp-fish rice nuggets which are rich in protein and fatty acids. Based on the results of these activities, education with counseling using audiovisuals proved effective in increasing mothers' understanding of stunting and complementary feeding. The processing of complementary food can be done simply using local food sources by paying attention to nutritional value, selection of ingredients, handling and processing processes. It is suggested that in the next stage, regular monitoring through the local Posyandu is needed to continue to educate, provide nutritious food and immunize residents according to regulation set by the government.

Abstract

Glutinous corn is popular due to its delicious taste, savory flavor, and soft texture, with a very high amylopectin content of up to 90%, which is beneficial for diabetics. Its popularity is increasing as an alternative food, such as corn porridge and instant corn rice. However, the productivity of glutinous corn in the "Karya Ushaha Bersama" farmer group remains low, around 2-2.5 tons per hectare. This activity aims to enhance farmers' understanding of utilizing organic waste as ameliorant materials to increase glutinous corn productivity. The methods used include lectures, discussions, Q&A sessions, demonstrations, and hands-on practice. The training also covers the use of organic materials such as compost, manure, and rice husk charcoal as ameliorants. The sessions were conducted smoothly and received active participation from the farmers. The results showed a significant increase in participants' understanding and skills regarding the production and use of ameliorants from organic waste. The use of a mixture of 50% cow manure and 50% mycorrhizal biofertilizer proved effective in improving the growth and yield of glutinous corn. This ameliorant also enhances the development of mycorrhiza in the soil and improves soil fertility. The use of a 50% cow manure and 50% mycorrhizal biofertilizer mixture is recommended to boost plant growth, yield, mycorrhiza development, and soil fertility. Increased productivity of glutinous corn is expected to improve the welfare of farmers in the area.
