Abstract

This study aims to examine the contribution of the culinary enterprise managed by PKK Sirkoyo 2 in Diro, Pendowoharjo Village, Bantul, to strengthening the community-based tourism economy. A qualitative case study approach with descriptive analysis was employed. The findings indicate that the production of traditional food not only increases household income but also enhances women’s participation in local economic activities. The culinary products have been integrated into various cultural events at the village level and attract tourists through their distinctive tastes and traditional presentation. This initiative contributes to cultural preservation while expanding women's access to public and economic spaces. Although several challenges remain such as limited production equipment and insufficient access to digital marketing the enterprise holds strong development potential through training support and collaboration with village tourism stakeholders. These findings underscore the importance of empowering women through the culinary sector as a strategic component of inclusive and sustainable community-based tourism development.

Abstract

This study examines the negative experiences of guests staying at TRC Bintan Resort, focusing on the quality of basic services and the physical condition of the property. The analysis was conducted using a descriptive qualitative approach, based on a narrative review of online reviews containing complaints about room sanitation, infrastructure damage, and environmental discomfort. The results revealed systemic failures, including weak hygiene standards, facility degradation, and inadequate management of the resort environment, which directly impacted guest perceptions of value and emotions. These findings reinforce the existence of a total quality gap arising from the mismatch between guest expectations and service realities. Using the SERVQUAL framework and the Kano Model, this study identified that most issues centred on the basic needs dimension, which must be met in the hospitality industry. This study contributes to the hospitality management literature by highlighting the importance of preventative maintenance, service quality monitoring, and the integration of environmental sustainability principles as strategies for rehabilitating resort reputations in tropical coastal areas.

Abstract

This study examines visitor perceptions of the tourist attractions at Merapi Park using a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. The primary aim of the research is to identify and analyze visitor satisfaction regarding the available facilities and services. Survey results obtained through questionnaires, observations, and documentation indicate that the majority of visitors provide positive evaluations of accessibility, parking facilities, and staff service. Specifically, 48% of visitors rated the road conditions leading to Merapi Park as very good, while 68% stated that the staff service was friendly and polite. Public facilities such as restrooms and prayer rooms were also deemed adequate. In terms of pricing, entrance fees and food prices were considered affordable by respondents. These findings suggest a high level of visitor satisfaction, although there are areas for improvement. The results are expected to contribute to the development of national tourism and assist the management of Merapi Park in enhancing service quality.

Abstract

Wukirsari Village, Cangkringan Subdistrict, Sleman Regency, is a rural area on the southern slopes of Mount Merapi. This village has long been known as a buffer zone for various agricultural products, especially rice. Its direct border with Umbulharjo Village, where the Pentingsari Tourism Village is located, makes Wukirsari a strategically located village. Road access, community-operated accommodations, restaurants, and other essential elements of a tourist attraction are all within relatively close proximity. Nearly every corner of Wukirsari Village offers a variety of unique tourism potential. In addition to the expanse of local rice fields thriving with a variety of crops, this area also offers other potential not found in other villages on the southern slopes of Mount Merapi. These potentials are environmental conservation and educational tourism attractions, namely the Javan Barn Owl (Tyto alba) monitoring center, a bamboo grove cultivation site, and the Mazaarat Artisan Cheese factory, which are closely related to food security issues. However, ironically, until now these potentials have not been optimally developed. Even in Wukirsari, there is not a single tourist village managed by the community as a local tourism movement entity. Therefore, this study seeks to achieve the following objectives: 1) Conducting an inventory and identification of tourism potential, 2) Developing existing tourism potential on a commercial scale by involving the local community, and 3) Incorporating circular economy principles in every development undertaken. The methods used included direct field observation, in-depth interviews with tourism stakeholders, documentation, and pilot testing. This research is expected to lead to the development of community-based tourism based on circular economy principles, providing new experiences for both tourists and local communities, the primary operators. This will enable the continued growth of environmentally friendly tourism alongside food security.

Abstract

This study reviews how sustainable practices affect financial performance in the hospitality industry. Growing environmental awareness, government rules, and changing customer expectations are pushing hotels, resorts, and restaurants to include sustainability in their daily operations. Using the SALSA (Search, Appraisal, Synthesis, and Analysis) method, 32 relevant studies were reviewed from major academic databases. The results show that sustainability can improve profits when treated as a long-term investment rather than a short-term cost. Key actions such as saving energy, reducing waste, using renewable energy, and applying circular economy ideas help lower costs and attract customers who care about the environment. Green certifications and open communication about eco-friendly efforts also strengthen brand image, build customer trust, and increase occupancy rates. Government incentives and clear regulations further support green innovation and reduce financial challenges. However, businesses still face barriers such as high initial costs, limited funding access, and inconsistent ways of measuring economic results. Overall, this review finds that sustainability and financial success can go hand in hand. Sustainable business models can help hospitality businesses stay competitive, resilient, and profitable in the long run. Future research should focus on finding the most cost-effective green practices and exploring regional differences in sustainable performance.

Abstract

This research seeks to assess the psychological elements that affect tourists' intentions to try traditional cuisine, utilizing the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) framework. It specifically examines the Gudeg Wijilan Culinary Center in Yogyakarta, which serves as a key representation of Javanese food culture. A quantitative explanatory approach was used, involving a survey of 100 tourists selected through accidental sampling. The research instrument included five primary TPB variables: attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, consumption intention, and actual behavior. Data analysis employed multiple linear regression and path analysis to investigate both direct and indirect relationships among the variables. The findings reveal that all TPB components positively and significantly impact tourists' intentions to consume traditional cuisine, with subjective norm being the most influential factor, followed by attitude and perceived behavioral control. Furthermore, actual behavior was identified as a partial mediator, indicating that tourists’ firsthand experiences consuming gudeg enhanced the connection between psychological factors and their intention to act. These results underscore that decisions made by tourists are influenced by personal assessments, social factors, and perceptions of accessibility to traditional cuisine. This study's originality lies in applying the TPB model to a specific traditional culinary context and including actual behavior as a mediating variable when analyzing tourists’ intentions. It contributes to the theoretical understanding of tourist consumption behavior and provides actionable insights for destination managers to create more effective marketing strategies rooted in consumer psychology and tourist experiences.

Abstract

This study examines the Ruwatan Bumi tradition in Cipancar Village, Subang Regency, as a potential cultural-based tourism development. Ruwatan Bumi is an annual ritual expressing gratitude for agricultural yields and serves as a platform for integrating local arts such as Debus, Gemyung Jaipong, Sisingaan, and Lengser. This tradition strengthens community identity, social cohesion, and spiritual values. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach through observation, interviews, and documentation, with interactive analysis based on Miles & Huberman and SWOT analysis. The results indicate that the main strengths lie in the philosophical values and diversity of local arts, while weaknesses include limited digital promotion, absence of a formal management institution, and low involvement of younger generations. Development strategies focus on digital documentation, establishing a management institution, and packaging the tradition into an annual festival integrated with SMEs and local products. Thus, Ruwatan Bumi functions not only as a customary ritual but also as a means of cultural preservation, education, and a driver of sustainable tourism grounded in local wisdom.

Abstract

Incentive travel is a key segment in MICE that aims to motivate employees. Although Indonesia is a leading MICE destination, the competitiveness of Jakarta has not been optimized as an incentive travel destination. This study identifies Harapan Island in the Thousand Islands as Jakarta's leading potential for incentive travel, offering unique maritime and conservation experiences. However, there is a significant gap between this potential and the current unstructured and uncompetitive tourism products, which fail to meet corporate expectations. Using quantitative associative methods, this study analyzes the influence of internal factors (accommodation, cuisine) and external factors (accessibility, local support) on destination competitiveness. Data from 50 respondents, mostly tourism workers and corporate employees, was collected through a reliable questionnaire (Cronbach's Alpha >0.90) and found to have a normal distribution. The findings confirm the strong potential of Harapan Island, but highlight critical weaknesses in supporting facilities and product packaging. This study concludes that community-based strategic development for premium products is essential to transform Harapan Island into a competitive and sustainable incentive travel destination, thereby supporting the vision of “Jakarta Nice for MICE.”

Abstract

Duta Wisata Beach in Bandar Lampung is a marine tourism destination that has great potential to be developed. However, the development of marine tourism in the area is still not optimal, one of the contributing factors is the minimal role of the community in the development of marine tourism. This study aims to identify and analyze the role of the community in the development of marine tourism at Duta Wisata Beach, Bandar Lampung. This study uses a qualitative approach method, determining informants with a purposive sampling technique totaling three people. The results of the study indicate that the role of the community is very important in the development of marine tourism at Duta Wisata Beach. The roles that can be carried out by the community are first, as an initiator, namely as a trigger and driver in realizing ideas and thoughts. Second, as an implementer, namely the community carries out operational activities. Third, as a companion, namely the contribution and responsibility of the community in maintaining the beauty and cleanliness of the surrounding environment. Fourth, as a reviewer, namely the community supervises the process and impact of tourism development. Fifth, as a beneficiary, namely increasing community welfare in the economy.
