Abstract

Kata kunci : gula darah puasa, diabetes mellitus tipe 2, remaja Abstract The rising prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) among adolescents is an increasing global health concern, including in Indonesia, particularly in Jambi City. In response to this issue, this community outreach aimed to conduct screening and educational activities to prevent T2DM among adolescents in Jambi City. The activities involved identifying gender, age, body mass index (BMI), and fasting blood glucose levels. 119 respondents comprised 31.1 % males and 68.9 % females aged 19-20. The BMI results showed 5.7% underweight, 13.1% slightly underweight, 61.5% average weight, 5.7% overweight, and 11.5% obese. Additionally, fasting blood glucose levels were recorded, with 99.2 % of respondents having levels below 125 mg/dL and 0.8 % above 125 mg/dL. This activity shows that most adolescents in Jambi City who have been screened have a Body Mass Index (BMI) and Fasting Blood Glucose Levels in the normal category. This indicates adolescents in Jambi have a low risk of T2DM. However, there are 0.8% of adolescents with fasting blood glucose levels above 125 mg/dl and 17.2% (non-ideal body mass), indicating a risk of prediabetes and obesity as the main factors in the development of T2DM. The findings highlight the importance of early screening and education to prevent the increasing incidence of T2DM in adolescents. Abstract

Diabetes Melitus remains a prominent health challenge globally, particularly in Indonesia, and is therefore included in the country’s disease prevention and control programs. One effective strategy for diabetes Melitus prevention is through community-based education and screening initiatives. This community service activity aimed to provide free facilitation for community members to learn about diabetes Melitus, undergo health checks specifically for random blood glucose levels, then consult with a physician regarding their examination results. The community service activity was conducted at the Letrysa Primary Clinic and began with a pre-test, followed by an educational and counseling session led by an internal medicine specialist. This was then followed by a post-test and screenings of participants' random blood glucose levels and blood pressure. Additionally, participants received free consultations with the internal medicine specialist based on their screening outcomes. The examination results indicated that out of 35 participants, three individuals had abnormal random blood glucose levels. An analysis of pre-test and post-test scores demonstrated that the education and counseling sessions significantly improved participants' understanding and knowledge of diabetes Melitus. Based on these findings, it is recommended that this program be conducted routinely within communities to help prevent Diabetes Melitus.

Abstract

Prospective studies indicate that the Atherogenic Index of Plasma (AIP) is a superior marker compared to isolated assessments of triglycerides (TG) and High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL) in predicting Coronary Heart Disease (CHD). Simpang Sungai Duren Community Health Center serves a large population with a high proportion of productive-age and obese individuals. Routine metabolic screening for CHD risk stratification in obese residents has been hindered by limited facilities and healthcare financing systems. This community service initiative aimed to assess AIP for CHD risk stratification in obese individuals. Participants included residents aged 19–64 years with a body mass index (BMI) ≥25 kg/m², no recent lipid-lowering medication use (within 3 months), and an 8–10 hour fasting period. AIP scores (logarithm of TG/HDL ratio) were used to stratify CHD risk. Results were communicated to participants alongside health promotion leaflets. Among 61 participants, AIP-based screening identified 14.8% as high-risk, 26.2% as moderate-risk, and 59% as low-risk for CHD. Modifiable cardiometabolic risk factors in the high-risk group revealed 100% with central obesity and hypertriglyceridemia, and 50% with hypertension and/or low HDL levels. The high-risk cohort exhibited multiple cardiometabolic risks requiring comprehensive management.

Abstract

Stroke is a neurological disease caused by multiple risk factor and can be prevented through early screening and lifestyle modifications. However, the misconception that stroke only affects the elderly leads to low screening interest among younger adults. This community service activity aimed to screen for stroke risk factors, particularly lipid profile examination among the productive age population in the working area of Simpang Sungai Duren Public Health Center. A total of 90 respondents aged 19-59 years participated, most of whom were office workers with sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy dietary habits. The screening included blood pressure measurement, body mass index assessment, total cholesterol and Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL) levels. All respondents fasted for 8-10 hours before venous blood sampling. Screening results were delivered along with individual consultation and lifestyle education. The results revealed that 20% of respondents had hypercholesterolemia, 22% had elevated LDL levels, 23.26% had hypertension, 21% were overweight, and 39% were obese. These findings indicate that individuals in the productive age group may already have stroke risk factors despite being asymptomatic. Therefore, regular screening from early adulthood is essential as a primary prevention strategy against stroke.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Scabies is a skin disease that is often found in Indonesia caused by Sarcoptes scabei. The prevalence of scabies in Islamic boarding school environments in Jambi is around 4.9%. Sandra Widaty et al. from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, have developed a Deskab (Early Detection of Scabies) form that can be used by ordinary people (cadres) very easily, and the results are relatively similar to those carried out by medical personnel. The method is to present cadres and resource persons, conduct a pretest, provide scabies material, posttest, and training on how to directly apply the Deskab form by cadres and be assessed by a doctor. There were 18 participants from four Islamic boarding schools. The majority of participants were male (67%) and adults (19-59 years) (67%). The average pretest and posttest score was 79.64 (80%) and 83.78 (83%). The average score for the Deskab results is 95.12 (95%), and all cadres have a score above 79. All cadres are declared to have passed and are expected to be able to carry out early detection screening on santri so that efforts to control scabies in the work area of the Tahtul Yaman Health Center can be realized as planned.
