Abstract

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease, primarily affecting the elderly, and is classified into primary OA (with no specific cause) and secondary OA (caused by other diseases or conditions). Although it cannot be cured, appropriate management can control the symptoms and prevent disease progression. This study aims to assess the perception and knowledge of hip and knee OA patients in Jambi City using the Osteoarthritis Knowledge Scale (OAKS) instrument. Data were obtained from 87 patients at Kambang General Hospital: 54 filled out the Knee OAKS and 33 for Hip OAKS. The results showed that patients' understanding of general knowledge about OA was high (84%), but knowledge related to prevention was significantly lower (44%). Knowledge regarding treatment and symptom management was moderate (68.2%), and understanding of healthy lifestyle behaviors was 53%. These findings indicate a significant gap in patient knowledge, particularly regarding preventive measures and lifestyle modifications. Therefore, targeted educational interventions are crucial to improve patient understanding, enhance self-management, and ultimately achieve better clinical outcomes in managing OA. Abstract

In the era of globalization and rapid technological advancement, the healthcare sector in Indonesia faces various challenges, including the need for innovation and more effective services. Medical students possess significant potential to contribute to creating relevant solutions for public health issues. However, many of them lack adequate entrepreneurial skills. Conventional teaching methods often fall short in providing students with the practical skills necessary. Therefore, the implementation of Project-based Learning (PjBL) in entrepreneurship courses becomes essential. Through PjBL, students not only learn theory but also engage directly in projects related to current health issues. This allows them to develop practical skills such as market research and business planning. The program involved 119 first-semester medical students, beginning with a Pre-Test to assess their initial knowledge about Community Service, followed by presentation sessions and a Post-Test to evaluate their understanding. Results showed that 60% of students were interested in entrepreneurship within the healthcare sector; 52.5% recognized its importance; however, 70% still lacked an understanding of business concepts in healthcare. A significant increase was observed after the Post-Test was conducted. The application of PjBL needs to be conducted continuously to further enhance students' knowledge about entrepreneurship. Abstract

ABSTRACT Based on a micronutrient survey in 12 provinces in Indonesia, it is known that children aged 6 to 11 months consume lower nutrients than other age groups. Toddlers who do not receive complementary feeding have a 7.4-fold risk of causing stunting in children. This community service aims to increase mothers' knowledge in making the correct complementary feeding, how to give it, when to provide it, and screening the nutritional status of toddlers. Community service activities were conducted at the Olak Kemang Health Center, attended by 15 mothers and children. Based on community service, it was found that most of them were toddlers aged 30 to 36 months (60%), had the highest anthropometric status of good nutrition (standard), namely 73.33%, and the assessment of child development using the Pre-Screening Questionnaire for Development found that 93.3% of toddlers had normal development. Routine activities are needed to increase the knowledge of mothers of toddlers regarding complementary feeding and screening the growth and development of toddlers to prevent stunting. Abstract

TORCH infections (Toxoplasmosis, Rubella, Cytomegalovirus, Herpes simplex) pose significant risks during pregnancy, contributing to congenital abnormalities and adverse neonatal outcomes. In Indonesia, limited public awareness and inadequate preventive practices exacerbate these risks. This community service initiative aimed to enhance knowledge about TORCH infections among reproductive-aged women through a hybrid educational seminar. Conducted in collaboration with Peduli TORCH, the program utilized the "5P Framework" (Pathogen Awareness, Prenatal Screening, Pathogen Management, Postnatal Monitoring, Preventive Practices) to deliver evidence-based strategies. A total of 54 participants (87% female, 61.1% from Jambi Province) attended the seminar, combining in-person and virtual engagement. Pre- and post-tests assessed knowledge improvement, revealing a statistically significant median score increase from 70.0 to 100.0 (p<0.001, Wilcoxon test). Participants reported high satisfaction with the seminar’s content, interactive format, and accessibility, though logistical refinements were suggested for future iterations. The initiative successfully bridged knowledge gaps, emphasizing the importance of early screening, vaccination, and hygiene practices. By empowering women and leveraging community engagement, this program highlights the potential of targeted educational interventions to reduce TORCH-related morbidity and improve maternal-child health outcomes. Culturally adapted, hybrid approaches demonstrate promise for scalable public health strategies in low-resource settings.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Hypertension is a chronic elevation of systemic arterial pressure beyond a level that may damage the endothelium. Individuals with hypertension typically demonstrate increased levels of blood glucose, cholesterol, and uric acid. Hyperlipidemia, age, and hypertension exhibit a complicated interplay that profoundly influences cardiovascular risk. Inadequate management of blood pressure and insufficient public awareness regarding the early detection of metabolic syndrome continue to significantly worsen the global prevalence of cardiovascular disease. This community service initiative assessed blood pressure and blood chemistry to identify early risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Olak Kemang Health Centre, affiliated with Jambi University's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, conducts community service projects. Patients of the Regular Olak Kemang Health Center engaged in this research. Following an 8-hour fasting period, all individuals underwent assessments of their blood pressure, cholesterol levels, glucose, and uric acid concentrations. This study evaluated the blood pressure and clinical chemistry of 44 subjects. Seven patients (15.9%) exhibited pre-hypertension, twelve (27.3%) presented with stage 1 hypertension, and eleven (25%) were diagnosed with stage 2 hypertension. The majority of individuals with hypertension were aged 46 to 55 years. In the community service, 4 participants exhibited elevated uric acid levels, 9 had elevated glucose levels, and 7 had elevated cholesterol levels. Eight patients with stage 1 hypertension exhibited higher blood chemistry levels. Considering that glucose, cholesterol, and uric acid are associated with cardiovascular disease risk, it is advisable for patients with hypertension to have their levels regularly monitored. Their connection highlights the need for integrated management strategies to improve patient care and prevent complications.  Keywords: Elderly, Hypertension, Hyperlipidemia, Hyperglicemia, Hyperuricemia. Abstract

Death is a certainty in human life, and in Islamic teachings, the handling of the deceased is part of fardhu kifayah that must be carried out by Muslims. The process of rukti jenazah, which includes bathing, shrouding, performing the funeral prayer, and burial, has specific regulations in accordance with Islamic law. However, the reality in society shows that there are still many shortcomings in both knowledge and practical skills related to the implementation of rukti jenazah. This condition often leads to practices being carried out traditionally without a strong scientific foundation, as well as limited regeneration of funeral care cadres within the community. To address this challenge, the Department of Forensic Medicine, Ethics, and Medical Law, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Islam Indonesia, organized a community service program in the form of training on rukti jenazah according to Islamic law. This activity was conducted on August 2, 2025, at the Faculty of Medicine Auditorium with a total of 45 participants from the general public. The method included lectures delivered by an expert speaker and hands-on practice using a mannequin, accompanied by facilitators in small groups. Evaluation was carried out through pre-test and post-test to measure the improvement in participants’ knowledge. The evaluation results showed a significant improvement, with the average pre-test score of 68.5 increasing to 92.5 in the post-test. All participants completed the training and received certificates as proof of their basic competence in rukti jenazah. This program successfully enhanced participants’ theoretical understanding and practical skills, and is expected to produce community cadres capable of carrying out rukti jenazah in accordance with Islamic law. Furthermore, this activity strengthens the role of academics in community service based on Islamic and humanitarian values. Abstract

Stunting, or chronic malnutrition, remains a significant public health challenge in Indonesia, impacting the cognitive and physical development of children. This community service project aimed to address this issue through a culturally sensitive and sustainable approach in the community of Olak Kemang Village, Jambi. The program focused on diversifying local wisdom-based herbal products to improve nutritional intake among pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children under five. The method involved a three-stage process: (1) socialization and nutritional education about stunting, (2) training on the hygienic processing of local plants rich in micronutrients, such as Moringa (Moringa oleifera) and Katuk leaves (Sauropus androgynus), and (3) a hands-on workshop on creating diversified, child-friendly products like herbal powders, fortified cookies, and puddings. Pre- and post-activity questionnaires demonstrated a significant increase in participants' knowledge and awareness of stunting prevention, from 67,4% to 90,58%. Participants also successfully produced several innovative herbal food products. This initiative highlights that empowering communities by integrating local knowledge with scientific principles is a promising and effective strategy for stunting prevention. Keywords: Stunting, community service, herbal product, nutrition, local wisdom.
