Abstract

The SARS-CoV-2 virus is part of the coronavirus family. Currently, transmission of SARS-CoV-2 through droplet that come out when coughing, sneezing or contact is believed to be the main route of transmission of the virus. Eye involvement in cases of COVID-19 has been reported in several journals. Research in Hubei, China, reported that 12 out of 30 confirmed COVID-19 patients were accompanied by conjunctivitis. One of the COVID-19 positive patients with conjunctivitis in Italy detected SARS-CoV-2 RNA in an eye specimen which may be a potential source of infection. Several studies have emphasized that the eyes are a potential entry point for the virus and emphasize the importance of masks and eye protection. Until now, there is no vaccine or specific treatment to deal with COVID-19, so prevention is the best step to take. Lack of public knowledge in recognizing how the SARS-CoV-2 virus is transmitted so that they are less introspective and do not take precautions for virus infection. Educational videos regarding things that must be considered about the eyes during the COVID-19 pandemic can be a means of health promotion to prevent the spread of infection. This community service is expected to attract the attention of the public to get to know COVID-19 and increase public awareness of how much we should work together to reduce the transmission of this virus.

Abstract

Reducing the incidence of stunting is one of the goals of the 2025 Global Nutrition Targets. The prevalence of stunting in children in Indonesia is still high over the last decade. Lack of knowledge on nutritional intake, maternal nutritional status factors, breastfeeding practices, complementary feeding practices, and exposure to infections as well as other factors including education, food system, health care, and sanitation are important determinants of child stunting in Indonesia. This community service activity is carried out with the aim of providing counseling about stunting to mothers and measuring the nutritional status of toddlers as an effort to prevent stunting. The activity was coordinated by students who are members of the Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University (FK Unsri) and Muhammadiyah University (FK UM), involving FK Unsri lecturers, in collaboration with staff at the Puskesmas Taman Bacaan Palembang. At the end of the activity, participants became more aware of the importance of measuring children's nutritional status and stunting prevention measures. There were 6 toddlers who were indicated to be malnourished and reported for management by the Puskesmas team so that they did not progress to stunting.

Abstract

Superior human resources are a mandatory requirement to make Indonesia advanced, but in preparing superior human resources there is still a challenge, namely stunting. Basically, there are two types of nutrients that children need to grow and avoid stunting, namely macronutrients (macronutrients) and micronutrients (micronutrients). The purpose of this activity is to foster public understanding in the Panorama Village, Bengkulu City, to create creative and innovative food preparations that are rich in nutrients so that they will create superior human resources. After this community service activity was carried out there was an increase in the knowledge of posyandu participants by more than 70%. The increase in the knowledge of the participants was due to the fact that the material that had been delivered was easy for the participants to understand. The participants were also taught directly how to use the remunggai plant to make nutritious food for children. So that stunting can be prevented and in the future will produce superior and productive human resources. This activity also resulted in a joint commitment from all stakeholders, including PKK mobilizing team members, posyandu cadres, puskesmas staff and posyandu members to support Stunting Prevention by Utilizing Remunggai Plants to Prepare Superior Human Resources in the Panorama sub-district, Bengkulu City.

Abstract

The SMP Negeri 39 Samarinda students' activities have changed, if not stopped altogether, as a result of the teacher and student activities switching from online learning to face-to-face learning. The same goes for wall magazines, which are meant to foster students' creativity and reading. Because there is no organization or club and students are not aware of how to manage wall magazines, the state-of-the-wall magazines at SMPN 39 Samarinda were inadequate. The formation of a wall magazine club and instruction in creating health-based wall magazines are two activities done to increase students' health literacy. At SMPN 39 Samarinda, there is student involvement and competence in creating wall magazines, as well as the development of a management structure and a detailed work plan for the wall magazine club.

Abstract

Obesity is an excessive accumulation of fat due to an imbalance in energy intake (eating, drinking) with the energy used for a long time. Obesity is a modifiable risk of diabetes mellitus (DM). Screening for obesity and blood glucose in at-risk individuals is very important to prevent the incidence of DM. Routine nutritional status and blood glucose examinations for susceptible ages and people with DM still need to be carried out to monitor therapy and prevent severity. One way that can be used to determine obesity is through an abdominal circumference examination. The normal abdominal circumference for women is 80 cm for and for men 90 cm. This community service activity is aimed at the early detection of obesity and DM incidence by targeting the elderly and elderly in the 20 Ilir D-IV Village. The activity was carried out by lecturers and students of the Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University, in collaboration with cadres of the Raflesia Elderly Posyandu, Kelurahan 20 Ilir D-IV, in the working area of the Talang Ratu Health Center. The results of the examination showed that most of the participants were centrally obese, but only 2 people had blood glucose levels >200 mg/dL. Production of soap from used cooking oil can be a two-pronged solution for these problems. Public Service Team from Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Sriwijaya have carried out health counseling and training of soapmaking to 36 students, school administrators, and guests. Health counseling explains about the symptoms, spread, mitigation, and prevention of scabies, while soapmaking training explains about the cold process saponification method by demonstration. This activity has successfully implanted knowledge about scabies and method of soapmaking from used cooking oil within students and school administrators. Moving forward, we suggest that this activity to be accompanied with training of marketing methods and strategies so that the soap that were made can be turned into a sellable product to help with the school’s economy.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on child health services at the posyandu, especially monitoring growth and development. The proportion of toddlers who are stunted will increase not only in Indonesia but also in Palembang if children had growth and development disorders that are not monitored as the Posyandu was temporarily closed during the pandemic. WhatsApp can be used as a medium for teleconsultation in an effort to monitor the growth and development of toddlers. This activity provided education to mothers who have toddlers through teleconsultation in the form of information, motivation and solutions for monitoring the growth and development of children. This activity was carried out online using the WhatsApp application by recruiting 37 women in the Whatsapp group. The results of the activity showed that WhatsApp can be used as a teleconsultation media in educating mothers in an effort to monitor the growth and development of toddlers during a pandemic as the Posyandu was temporarily closed. The mother's enthusiasm can be seen from the active teleconsultation process in the WhatsApp group. Through this activity, it concluded that WhatsApp can be used as a teleconsultation media to monitor children's growth even though the mother did not directly receive education at the Posyandu.
