Abstract

Scabies is a skin disease caused by infestation and sensitization of Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. The prevalence of scabies reaches more than 20% in developing countries and mainly affects children. Scabies is more commonly found in a location with dense population, with high direct or indirect contact, such as in Islamic boarding schools. This counseling and community service activity aims to provide information related to scabies to students and to screen scabies risk factors at Darussalam Prabumulih Islamic Boarding School. The results of the questionnaire screening showed that respondents had a high risk of scabies infestation based on an assessment of the 4 main risk factors. The results of anamnesis and physical examination of 49 students showed that 19 students (38.7%) had scabies infestation and 30 students (61.3%) were free from scabies infestation. This counseling is expected to help reduce the number of scabies infestations in densely populated residential locations, especially in Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

The procedure for making preparations in the Anatomical Pathology Laboratory consists of three stages, including the pre-analytical process. The impact of pre-analytical process errors can lead to misdiagnosis and treatment. This community service is located at AR Bunda Hospital Prabumulih City, on Saturday, October 15, 2022 in the form of educational seminars, discussions and hands-on workshops to practice the correct tissue fixation and lamellation procedures. The activity was held in conjunction with the 60th Anniversary of the Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University and the Prabumulih City Government. The seminar participants were active enough to ask questions and discuss. There were 51 participants, coming from 4 hospitals, namely Prabumulih Hospital (31.4%), AR Bunda Hospital (31.4%), Pertamina Prabumulih Hospital (19.6%), Fadillah Prabumulih Hospital (9.8%), and from other institutions around 7.8%, consisting of room nurses, general practitioners, dental nurses, operating room nurses, pharmacy, and laboratory workers. An increase in participants' knowledge by 15% was obtained based on pre-test and post-test results, so it is expected that the tissue processing process in the Anatomic Pathology Laboratory can produce paraffin blocks of good quality, immunohistochemical examinations to be accurate, and patient tissue diagnosis to be more precise.

Abstract

Good mental health is needed to support the smooth learning process. Students have different learning patterns from high schools, so they must be able to adapt to the learning process. New student’s mental health screening is needed to be detected earlier. Medical Faculty (FK) Unsri has undergraduate programs (PS) such as Medical Education (PSPD), Dentistry (PSKG), Nursing (PSIK) and Psychology (PS Psychology). The educational process in FK, which is different from other faculties, can affect students' mental health. Academic and non academic problems encountered during the educational process, hinder students in their education. The aims was to determine mental health such as mental emotional disorders, the saturation and learning motivation of new undergraduate students at FK Unsri. There were 444 of 513 new students (86.54%) who were involved in this mental health screening, which PSKG (96%), PSPD (94.74%), PSIK (86.07%) and PS Psychology (47.83 %). Screening the saturation level using the Boredom Proness Scale (BPS) found that 7 (1.58%) new students were in category 4 who needed more attention from academic supervisors. Screening for mental-emotional disorders is carried out using the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ), in which 34.23% of new students have mental-emotional disorders. While the SMMS was only conducted for PSPD and PSKG students, it was found that 83.01% of students had good motivation, while 16.99% had less motivation. The results of this screening are quantitative in nature, which can be used as input and initial data for academic supervisors so that the student education process can run well.

Abstract

Development progress in various fields, including health, has an impact on increasing people's life expectancy and increasing the elderly population in Indonesia. The increase in the number of elderly people has resulted in an increase in the prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including dementia. Dementia decreases patient’s independency, until it eventually becomes a burden for the family and the state both in terms of economy and psychosocial. With early detection, people with dementia can get treatment earlier so that the progressivity of the disease can be inhibited. Community service activities have been carried out in the form of cognitive function screening with the Indonesian version of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA-Ina) examination, which is followed by counseling and distribution of pamphlets about dementia, in Gunung Ibul Village, Prabumulih City, South Sumatra province. This activity was attended by 40 people, consisting of 5 (12.5%) men and 35 (87.5%) women with an average age of 60.68 ± 9.22 years. There were 29 (72.5%) adults and elderly people with decreased cognitive function (MoCA-Ina score less than 26). Memory and visuospatial/executive are the most affected cognitive domains. Early detection of dementia needs to be carried out periodically, especially in at-risk populations. Dementia education activities also need to be intensified to raise public awareness about dementia.

Abstract

Any lump that is not normally there is called a tumor. Tumors are divided into two types, namely benign and malignant. Benign tumors generally do not cause death. Meanwhile, what is called a malignant tumor indicates a tumor that can invade the surrounding tissue, is able to move to other parts of the body and generally has a high mortality rate. In 2018 there were 18.1 million new cases with a death rate of 9.6 million deaths. 47 out of 100,000 teenagers have cancer. Cancer can be prevented by avoiding exposure to risk factors for malignancy such as radiation and chemicals. In addition, early detection plays an important role in reducing morbidity and mortality. There are still many cases that come to health workers at an advanced stage which have a worse prognosis when compared to diseases detected at an early stage. In this activity, we have explained several types of lumps that often affect teenagers and how to respond to them. The activity was coordinated by the staff of the Anatomic Pathology Section of the Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University in collaboration with the Prabumulih City Government. At the end of the activity, the participants understood more about the importance of awareness of the risk of tumors in their teens.

Abstract

Tumors or neoplasms are abnormal solid lesions that form due to improper cell growth, and cancer is a malignant tumor. Cancer has a high potential to damage surrounding organ tissue and metastasize to other organs. Risk factors for any cancer are free radicals, secondary lifestyle, lack of healthy food, and exposure to radiation. Cancer has high morbidity and mortality. And death due to late detection, and the lack of knowledge of most people about this disease, for example, early manifestations, what to do when finding a lump on the body, tests that can be done and early detection of cancer, and others, could be the main reasons. The education is aimed at the general public to provide an overview of organ health and efforts to prevent cancer with examination and safety procedures in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic. The implementation of this outreach is able to increase public knowledge about the importance of early cancer screening. Apart from that, educating the public about cancer and early detection can increase public knowledge about cancer and self-examination for early detection procedures.
