Abstract

This study aims to identify trends in systems thinking research within the context of science education over the past decade and providing education researchers with a global perspective on the development of systems thinking. The bibliometric analysis research method is a quantitative approach used to analyze scientific literature to identify trends, publication patterns, collaborations between authors or institutions, and emerging research topics in a field of science.  The data used for bibliometric analysis is the research trend of systems thinking in science learning from 2014 to 2024, based on the Scopus database, utilizing the R Package Bibliometric and VosViewer Software. The obtained articles were then processed using thematic analysis techniques with the R Bibliometric Package to analyze primary information, annual scientific publications, article citations per year, total citations of top journals, Sankey diagrams, top author production, countries with the highest productivity, most productive affiliations, and thematic maps. The findings of this study indicate that research on systems thinking in science learning has experienced an annual growth rate of 9.6% and an average citation rate of 13.6 citations per document. Furthermore, it analyzes the thematic mapping of the obtained keywords, where the motor themes in this study such as curriculum, teaching, elementary school, student learning, and system theory are well-developed and essential for shaping research in systems thinking in science learning. The thematic mapping reveals a strong interconnection among three key themes: systems thinking, science learning, and elementary schools. These themes hold significant potential and are highly relevant for further exploration due to their high centrality, yet they remain relatively underexplored to date. The study of systems thinking skills in science learning should also consider previous research findings related to sustainable development goals, climate change, gender similarity, and conceptual frameworks.

Abstract

This study aims to elaborate on the assessment of instructional planning (lesson plan), particularly how planning emerges from the teacher's internal didactic transposition. It focuses on the diffusion of knowledge by teachers from the curriculum and textbooks into the form of teaching modules or lesson plans. A qualitative approach through phenomenological research method was employed in this study. The data sources include the Arabic language teaching module for Grade 3 Madrasah Ibtidaiyah in Bandung and Arabic language teacher as participants. The selection of one Arabic teacher as a participant in this study can be justified methodologically with a purposive sampling approach. Data collection techniques consisted of document analysis and in-depth interviews, followed by a praxeological review as an analytical tool. The assessment results identified learning barriers faced by students in the Qiraah (reading) skill material. In this context, internal didactic transposition defined as the transformation of theoretical material into teaching practice plays a crucial role in aligning instructional content with students’ needs and learning objectives. The process of internal transposition in Qiraah instruction positively impacts students’ reading skills, especially when teaching materials are adapted contextually and made relevant to the students’ proficiency levels. These findings pave the way for deeper investigation into the influence of teacher-student verbal exchanges and teaching approaches on students’ comprehension of vocabulary and their reading strategies in Arabic text-based instruction.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the needs for developing Student Worksheets that support Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and Science Process Skills (SPS) in science learning. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed in this study, where data were collected from 56 students and 3 science teachers across two schools in Banda Aceh, which were purposefully selected to examine the implementation of SPS-based worksheets in school located in the both urban and rural setting using structured questionnaires. The needs analysis was guided by the framework proposed by Hutchinson & Waters, focusing on three key elements: necessities, lacks, and wants. The findings indicate that both teachers and students recognize the importance of SPS-based worksheets in developing HOTS. Necessities include worksheets that support HOTS, especially in practical activities. However, there is a lack of SPS-based worksheets due to limited time and training and wants reflect teachers' strong desire for professional development to create such worksheets that can enhance students' HOTS. However, existing worksheets do not adequately address these needs, particularly in terms of contextualized problems, activity variation, and relevance to real-life situations. The study suggests that there is a pressing need to develop innovative, contextual worksheets integrated with problem-solving strategies. Such worksheets would not only support more meaningful learning but also challenge students cognitively, fostering skills that align with the demands of the 21st century.
